Forged Iron with head size similar to ZX7?

Hey! Looking for some suggestions for new irons. I've hit the Srixons and really liked how they felt and looked but was having trouble getting enough spin out of them. Playing an old set of Adams CB2s right now while searching for something new.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Bending a degree or two weak, shaft choice, and ball can all get you some extra spin.

2nd swing guy hit the Zx7 against everything, and they all spun within about 100 revs for him.

I think Mizuno 223's were the highest spinning of the group, but the difference was minimal.

Bend zx weak if you really like them. If that’s not enough play a higher spin ball as well

what’s your SS?

 

how high/spin we’re you hitting your 7?

 

I hit them today and was able to get plenty of spin with a Project X 6.5

SS 89-92mph and spin was around 5000 and old ones are around 6k. I didn't even think of swapping balls lol.

Zx7 are a bit of a unique one.  Considerably larger than any other solid forged cb I’ve played in the last 5 years.   Maybe the x forged cb is the closest.
 

Other the x forged cb, closest in size is going to be jpx forged, callaway st pro, mizuno 223.

 

A little smaller you have pxg cb 0317, jpx tour, p770

 

smaller yet, t100, apex tcb, p7mc

As bad as that sounds lol, i know shafts like the project x LZ can provide a little more spin/higher

As others have said i think your best bet is to check different shafts as that is a much easier solution

This is the important question to ask.  If you were hitting off a mat, then you need to add ~1000 RPMs to whatever number you were getting as the real value as mats will tend to reduce spin by ~1000.  So if you hit your current clubs and they were spinning at 6K indoors, you are actually spinning near 7k off grass.  You might have the perfect club already and no need to search.

does that mean sidespin is increasing as well?

Maybe more forgiving than you're looking for but I picked up a set of JPX923 forged this year and been loving them. I have them with Dynamic Gold 105S and get plenty of spin out of them.

Swapping balls might not be the right answer, as you may end up with an undesirable spin rate with driver.

Hmm, that's a good question.  I am not actually sure.  I think Trackman only covered backspin, but its a good question to ask since the two planes of spin are not independent of one another. Interesting, I hadn't thought about that before, I'll have to look into it.

 Anecdotally, I’ve found this to be 100% true. I was getting low numbers on my spin with the T100S on the sim- just spent a week on hard Bermuda greens and sat everything down within a foot. Definitely not too low. 
 

for the OP, the T100 had even higher spin numbers and feel great if you can tolerate the head size

Thanks for all the advice guys, going to get fitted in a couple weeks and can hopefully get the zx7s to work. If not I'm pretty interested in the pxg 0317 cb, Mizuno 223, or the new t150s if they have them. Also curious about edel but that's another storyll lol

The Srixons are considerably bigger to my eye than most OEM’s “flagship” player’s CB. I love them, but they are big to my eye. 
 

I would take a look at the PXG 0311T or P if you don’t mind the “goo.”  To my recollection, the ZX7 was pretty much right in between both.

Plenty of comparable heads. 223, 923 forged, king tours, i230, t200, to name a few. Problem is they all will have similar lofts and spin profiles. Agree with others to look at bending lofts for more spin.

Answer is also yes in the vicinity of 15-20%.

That 5000 spin number sounds like you could be using a non-urethane ball?

The two off the top of my head that look very similar are king tours and jpx forged.

Don't overlook the Srixon Z Forged. They are very user-friendly for a muscle back profile and look much like the ZX7 at address.

Cobra King Tour. Slightly different shape, but same head size as ZX7. Own a set of both and could easily play either one.
