Really is a case study in the power of branding. Odyssey’s brand has always been associated with putters that do the business at a lower price point. Function over form with minimal frills and lower cost of entry. Any attempt to branch out from that hasn’t been successful from a business standpoint. The Toulon chapter is just the most recent of a few such cases.

I agree. Even I, a self-proclaimed Odyssey fanboy, refuse to spend $400+ on a Toulon when the Odyssey branding is just as big as the Toulon branding. I want the feeling of buying a boutique putter, so it should only say Toulon. Or Toulon by Odyssey with "by Odyssey" in subscript or something.

I agree with this. Here in the UK Odyssey putters are always on sale and seen as a cheaper option. No way I’m paying more than a Scotty for a Toulon when the moan visible branding is Odyssey.

From the PGATSS release schedule post. Toulon replacement listed Nov 1. Granted, this was posted on June 9, so I wonder how long the exit has been in the works. Replacement could be interpreted as replacing the model line or replacing the branding entirely. Exciting times!

It is looking more like an Odyssey milled line to replace Toulon entirely.

Amazes me why people like that busy artwork on putter soles.

Cause you don't see it when you putt and it's more space for branding. What OEM doesn't have their brand all over the sole?

Agree. That’s where I want to see branding. The Toulon logo looks good.

Also agree with @bcflyguy1 about losing the diamond milling pattern. I never liked it and I didn’t think it felt that great compared to other face millings. Better without it.

Toulon has released a lot of nice putters. I thought the Rochester looked great. Bur you have to buy to keep because resale value falls off quickly, probably because they are viewed as dressed up Odysseys. And while I’m not a Cameron enthusiast or player, I do think his putters have a more premium look and feel, a polished elegance that I don’t see in the Toulons.

And if people don't like it plenty of custom makers that will keep the sole blank. I have a few with a blank sole and some with a ton of branding.

I just bought a Rochester off the forums here,  coincidently enough 🙂 It’s definitely going to be a keeper

The posts above are great evidence to support the bolded statement.

If you perceive two identical putters differently based on one word being added you probably need to reconsider how you assign value to things.

Perception is one thing. Obviously they are the same putters but the "garage" options went down significantly when Odyssey took on the brand. Finishes were limited, certain necks were no longer offered and so on. I prefer working directly with the small, boutique brands because you know there is a level of individuality that goes into the putter vs the mass produced putters.

Currently, no one is offering true custom options from the major brands like the Ping PLD program. I think this is a space that could be filled at a lower price point that what the PLD custom option offers and Toulon could step in and take some of that market IMO.

That all makes sense. I think small businesses do a great job of filling that niche. Callaway will always operate as a mass-market company with mass-market values. Expecting more than that from them will always lead to disappointment.

And I feel like Scotties lost their appeal when Titleist branding gradually disappeared.  Funny how they are kinda opposites in that respect.

Not sure but the AT|TI on the sole could maybe be Titanium since the face is AI designed.
