I would love it so much if Meronk won this tournament.

If would be crazy if he did. He would be doing the same sort of thing Alex Noren did in 2016 when Darren Clarke didn't choose him as a captains pick. Noren was pretty angry about not being picked then won the ET event the week after Clarke made his captains picks. He also won twice more before the end of the season in 2016.

Meronk should be on the RC team this year. Guess 3 wins on the DP/ET tour since last July including a win at Marco Simore earlier this year wasn't good enough for LD. Meronk also finished 2nd at Marco Simone in 2021. Seems to play pretty well there.

@avrag sure…I’d prefer Iona Stephen over Ali Whitaker

… but I suspect @Rapidcat might send me a “🤬🖕” for suggesting Ali Whitaker’s removal (proud Aussie! Fair dinkum! 🦘 🇦🇺)

I watched the R2 event feeds and didn't notice anything grammatical that bothered me with Ali, I personally like her content. She seems well connected with players and that gives some nice insight.

Commentators are a contentious issue with us, we all have our favourites and otherwise. The one that drives me nuts is Sam Torrance who mumbles at low volume into the microphone whilst sipping his pint of Irn-Bru (or something stronger) - open your mouth, man! No amount of correct grammar can save his commentary in my eyes.

I find it curious that there are so many Aussies in the commentary teams of tours around the world - why? There must be more Aussie commentators covering the PGAT than Aussie players (almost)! It is the top tour with players from anywhere but it is a US run tour with the main audience being Americans, just have US nationals commentating maybe with the odd exception.

Really long waiting times on 17 and 18 tees. What caused those delays?

And still a suicide patrol, as every year, sitting to the left of the 17th green. Why do they not seal that area off for spectators? Hailstorm lovers.

Simply a combination of having reachable par 5’s ( ie in 2 shots ) and having tricked up green layouts to mitigate for distance gains of the current generation of pros. Ie: the various attempts to toughen access to 17th and the water hazard at 18th. The latter causing Bedlam yesterday.

Matt Fitz driving way right into the Rhododendron 'forest' on 18, finding it and then eventually deciding to drop back in front of the tee. Fog was starting to come in with rapidly failing light. Felt like his group therefore took about and hour to play out the hole! Fitz made a double bogey 7.

Chaotic but strangely compelling viewing.

I didn’t see the “ drop back in front of tee “ incident you describe. Seems an illegal drop to me unless that spot was where he last played from.

I understand why it doesn't happen over the weekend, but when did the art of letting the following group through when faced with an obvious major hold-up in play due to a lost ball or a player wanting a ninth opinion on a drop disappear from the professional game? And why?

Pretty cool to see Kawamura using a Scotty Cameron Bullseye putter.

He may not be carrying it this week, but he also occasionally bags an MP-29 1-iron.

It wasn't though, he had an official with him the whole time who approved.

Not sure I'd go as far as to say crazy but it does feel a very harsh decision in a lot of ways.

If Luke and the team win it won't get mentioned again but on the other hand, lose and it will define Luke's captaincy.

A lot will depend on how Lowry does.
After seeing today, how shaky Meronk can be on the greens at times, I too would not call the decision "crazy" anymore.

I wonder: will he tell the English speaking commentators after his first 3 or 5 or 10 victories that the small "o" above the "A" in his name is there for a reason and that he is not called "Ay-burgh" but rather "Oa-beigh"?

Or does he not care?

He is a very nice and humble young man and he can be as understanding as he wants to be. Notice how he says "Here it goes.....", because he has given up.
I personally think that the ignorance of native English speakers about the pronounciation of foreign names is extremely arrogant. It doesn't matter, if somebody's first language is Spanish or German or Italian, when it comes to a person's name, today people from almost everywhere in the world at least try and make an effort to get is as right as their personal arsenal of vowels and consonants allows them to do. Even the French try their best these days. Only the English and the Americans don't.
