Blended sets resale value

Seems like the new offerings from Titleist and Callaway are really pushing blended sets, which is nice for getting the most out of your game and when you're able to spend top dollar, but I have to imagine resale values are going to plummet given the smaller pool of buyers that would fit your specs from the added variable of where you blend. Obviously in a perfect world we shouldn't consider resale value to buy clubs but does anyone else see this as greatly impacting the sale market?

Not at all. Have you looked in any tour bags lately? There're many guys/girls on all tours that bag blended sets and that'll always be with longer irons being easier to hit/elevate than the bottom end blades or players cavities. To me it all comes down to what gives me the best opportunity to score and if that's a blended set , then that's where I'll sit. Resale wouldn't be an issue on the same mindset.

Dont think the run of the mill buyer of used sets cares too much

Resale I don’t think is impacted that much. Now trade in values would plummet depending on the retailer as some require a certain number of irons in a set etc.

Resale/Trade-In value is basically the same. The overall question is would you get as much for a blended set compared to a set with one model. My feeling would be that for example a set of all T200s would be more appealing to joe shmo out there vs half T150/T200 or T200/T350. And if it's less desirable to joe shmo then it's less desirable to the big boxes, Callaway pre-owned, etc, which are taking them in on trade in.

They are completely different when companies offer $25 for a club that is on the BST for $75-100 and selling that's not the same.

 

Also if you're worried about resale don't buy combo sets but most are not worried about resale and the ones that are over price their used clubs a ton too.

If your resale and trade in is the same you might be doing something wrong or something right. My resale is normally much higher than trade in.

Yeah, if you go to trade in value somewhere like 2nd swing and double it it’s likely about BST sale price.  The companies like 2nd swing will usually be in the neighborhood of 3 times trade in.  Maybe more like 2 1/2 times.

 

At least that’s what I’ve seen.

these days with trade-in promo, I don't sell on BST as much anymore. I could get 20-30% higher in trade-in value than dealing with lowballers.

 

I had 4-pw with 5 different head built as a hobby. Sold that for a good money during covid days and never touched a combo-set since.

I'm sure with some "Advanced" eBay searches you could get a good basis, but I suspect that blended sets will indeed have lower resale value.   By definition it will be a smaller market.  Just like left handed sets.  And sets with extra stiff shafts.
