Best WARM winter golf jacket

NevinW

Recommended Posts

In the windier and colder days I have recently worn my new Sun Mountain Trapper jacket and it's been great! I also have a thin Sun Mountain vest to put over my golf shirt (and under jacket) if its in the high 30's or low 40's. Also, I picked up a FJ Winter Hat with the pom pom that was in the pro shop and it has been the warmest and most comfortable hat period! I've worn it when walking my dog when it was 28° outside at night and it kept my head warm....seriously, the BEST winter hat around and stupid comfortable.

What makes it so warm? I love a stocking cap (or whatever we call them) and thought the new era ones were best were they had an inner fleece lining that felt more warm than typical knit hats.

It also has this lining, but it's just so soft and a very thick layer. The beanie hats I've had experience with don't even come close to this.

Ahh you’re right.  Must have been a Black Friday thing.  They were marked down.  Not anymore.

I've worn the vest three times now and so far I am very impressed and it turns out the XL fits just fine.  Perfect for golf actually.

I had one of the heavier more traditional Ororo vests lasts year but I gave it to my nephew who works all day in a cold warehouse as he needed it more than I did.  While I thought that it was a fine garment I like the Fieldsheer one better.  The heat zone in the lower back area is awesome and something I need badly due to a chronic back issue.  It's also very thin and lightweight but somehow also very warm all by itself.

Similar to you the first time I wore it I had to take it off after three holes as I was burning up in the thing.

On colder days I start off with it on the high setting but never for more than ten or fifteen minutes as it's just too warm.  I alternate throughout the round between medium and low but for the most part low is adequate and battery life is zero problem when used this way.

As for the batteries the two Amazon models that I ordered are excellent and surprisingly even smaller than the Fieldsheer battery.  Not by a lot but they are definitely smaller and personally I'd rather carry a couple of the smaller ones for backup than have one of the larger heavier ones in order to get a longer run time.

And you certainly can't beat the price.

These are the ones that I got (sorry I can't get the link to post).

WASOTO 7.4 volt 3000 mAh Lithium Ion Batteries for heated gloves and mittens.

The two pack was $35.59.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up on the batteries.  Yes, I too bought the Ororo vest and another no -name brand on Amazon that I got for golf but they are so bulky it makes it kinda hard.  The Ororo is better as an outerwear jacket.  If I am to play golf the fieldsheer is the one. In 30° I can wear a Peter millar polo, fieldsheer vest and my KJUS rain coat that blocks wind and have plenty of room to swing. I’ll buy some of these batteries. Thanks again.

One thing regarding the batteries just occurred to me - the charging cord that comes with the Fieldsheer battery won't work with the Amazon batteries.

The Amazon batteries require a round plugin identical to the cord that's in the vest.

The same plugin is used to charge the battery as well as power the vest so there's no separate USB type plugin for charging.

It wasn't a big deal for me as I have several others that work just fine but it might be a problem if you don't have such a charge cord.

No it's just the batteries.

I had several that work - the one for my GTech hand warmer pouch and a couple that charge LED flashlights and lanterns.

Also had one that a charges a cordless fillet knife that I have.

Was looking on Amazon for something that might work for you and found this- looks like an even better deal and more similar to the OEM battery.

Sorry but I can't figure out how to paste the actual link.

Do the ones you bought work with Bluetooth? Just read a review of the one from above. The kakashi batteries that they don’t work with Bluetooth so only heats at highest setting and drains battery fast.

Mine work fine with the Bluetooth.

No difference between them and the OEM battery other than the charge port.

Oh and they don't have an on/off battery switch but I actually prefer that.

I’ll second  Mizuno windlite recommendation.  It 100% eliminates any wind, and keeps in all generated body heat.  Plus, it has the flexibility of a normal sweater.  It’s surprising how warm they get/stay.  I had to start wearing less layers beneath it because it keeps the warmth in so well.

Another recommendation is anything with Primaloft Gold.

I think you'll be very happy with that setup - I sure hope so anyways.

Sorry if I misled you initially regarding the charging requirements and glad I thought of it before you ordered the other setup!

Of course I probably wouldn't even have the vest if it wasn't for you so thanks again for that!

Just put on the Mizuno Windlite.  You stay warm and do not need to hassle with batteries, charging them, and a bad fit.  Just keep it simple!

You are correct Matt.  They only sell the baseball version now.  If your ever up towards Hendersonville/Gallatin, PM me and lets get together and play some golf again. I moved up here in 2018. Just got brushed by the tornado on Saturday. Longhollow GC has been in great shape all year and is a great value.

i like to layer, i've found alot of the warmer jackets to be a bit restrictive to swing in.  usually starting with uniqlo heat tech - very very warm.  then usually a kjus mid-layer half zip.  that's been good enough for most cold rounds into the high 30s.

Dude, this Linksoul AC hoodie i recently purchased fits the bill.  Light but good enough for 50-80* temps.  I cinches at the waist and looks really awesome.  It's also good for wind and light rain.

Fairway & Greene windsweater is the best for cold and windy days.  It's wool with a lining that works great.  A bit pricey, but it's awesome.
