Footjoy Premiere Series - too stable?

Recommended Posts

Anyone find the premiere series to be *too* stable? I’m all for a stable shoe with great grip, but it almost feels like they can be too stable when trying them on or the couple times I’ve worn the pair I have. By too stable, I mean that it feels like my feet don’t feel the ground very well and can’t move as naturally, almost as if there’s wooden boards on the bottom of my feet. Do they just need to be broken in further, am I crazy, or does anyone else feel the same?

I don’t get how anyone walks in this shoe. I want to like them so bad but they absolutely destroy my heels

Honestly a great shoe, I walk majority of my rounds and they are incredibly comfortable.

I will say they do have a break in period though.

Did you get heel blisters near Achilles in beginning?  How long did it take

That's the problem with a generic shoe last. Some it will fit perfectly some it's like torture.

I’ve worn Kentwool for years, and never had a blister. I really like the traditional look of the Premiers, but I just can’t get a good fit. I have been wearing nothing but Ecco since the summer, and they work well for me. I really prefer the look of the Premiers, but the fit of the Ecco works best.

Which Balega socks do you wear for golf? They have so many similar versions.

I just got a pair of lightly used Packards. They fit perfectly, and they feel unbelievable, with no hot spots, heel blisters, or heel slippage. And I'm just wearing normal Nike everyday cush crew socks.

as for stability, they are perfect in my opinion, after coming home from walking 18 in some TW13s my feet always hurt as there is a lack of real support, and I've never really liked freerun shoes.

FWIW - I wear a size 9 in all shoes (apart from 8.5 in Jordans)  // FJ Premier Packard - 8.5W  is perfect.

I have had numerous foot surgeries and need stable shoes. I wore Adidas 360s for a number of years but they modified the last. I tried a pair of Premiers - mostly because I had pro shop credit to spend. After a couple of range sessions and a couple of rounds, I started wearing them all the time. Now I have three pair. I will say that I found that that I had go down a half size from the Adidas and always use tight fitting shoe trees. I wear Swiftwick Maxus One socks. After four or five rounds, the stiffness broke down and they feel very nice for me. I will say that I have tried other Footjoys with no joy. Some shoes fit some and not others. Good luck OP.

Got a pair, giving them a try, so far comfortable and not as expensive as Stance, Bombas and Swiftwick in Canada. Although I do wish they were just a touch higher than no show.

As for the Premiere series my biggest gripe was the toe box being so freaking narrow. My foot actually fits 95% of the shoe so well but the toe box is so narrow it's awful. I played 36 and 18 in them over 2 days riding and my feet for the most part were fine but my big toe on my left foot I couldn't feel for 3 months and my right was like a few weeks. It was not fun, not something I want to do, sold off all but 1 pair which I might just use in the simulator or the odd 18 holes when I want to feel extra fancy. Might try and stretch the toe box if I can.

But this issues isn't just FJ it's across a lot of brands these days and it's making it harder to find shoes.

No doubt, FJ must be using the shoes pictured as the last to design their shoes. I always loved FJ because of their wider toe box, but in the last few years they have adjusted their lasts, sizing and quality to the point of no longer being an option.

Year I loved the TourX shoes, then tried on the Tour Alpha and realized I had to find another shoe sadly. I'm semi curious on the HyperFlex but even that toe box is small and the sock part also sucks. So going with different shoes as much as I look at FJ every time.

I don’t think my Balegas are high enough or stay high enough for any shoe with a bothersome Achilles collar. I do wear them most frequently for casual stuff.

My feetures are way better for performance activities.

also can confirm as some others have pointed out that the U shaped lower tongue area of the Fields has a wider feeling toe box than the V shape of the packards and tarlow.

I think it will depend on the shoe but so far so good if not I like them for non golf use as well mainly the price and feel. But I'll try a pair of the Feetures as well. I'm at the point I need to clear out old socks and restock new ones, just seeing what I want to buy.

I had the Fields before in spikeless but they separated and FJ replaced them but gave me options, I took the Packard cause I wanted spiked and then a month later the Field Spiked came out, I may give them a chance again but I'm currently happy with my shoe choice, unless they have a certain color I want.
