A soft travel case can also be overweight depends what you pack and the bag itself. The ClubGlove bags are light despite the size

I right now have a BigMax Wheeler 3 I got dirt cheap. I just flew and packed my Ping Pioneer cart bag, my 14 clubs, 15 golf balls, 2 pairs of shoes, Club Glove Stiff Arm and all the other small things in my bag. Came out to 43lbs when I weighed it at home so I was good and had weight to spare.

My one issue with the Wheeler 3 is that being soft it can kinda twist if I need to push or pull it around the airport. I did notice a lot of people using the SunMountain ClubGlider and honestly that looks way better with the second set of wheels. I'm going to keep an eye out for one of those one sale.

Idk why they even make travel bags w soft tops...

Because they provide more than enough protection, and are much easier to store.

I wouldn't trade my Club Glove for a hard case if you paid me.

It's very easy to hit the airline 50lb limit with any travel bag. I can easily fit 75lbs of stuff in my Club Glove Large Pro bag.

Pay the money and get a club glove and be done with it.  They are expensive, but by the time you get one and realize that that they are the best and have a lifetime warranty you will have spent much more than the cost of one so do yourself a favor and just get one from the start.

This is what I'm thinking. The difference in price between hard and soft is prob $100 but will save so much in future value

Ok something to think about. It always depends on the agent, they just let you through sometimes

What is crazy is that even travel bags that seem like they are high quality still don't last. The final straw for me was that I spent $179 on a seemingly quality travel bag and it lasted literally one leg of trip before it had a rip in it.  I think airlines are literally throwing the bags around as I had just taken it out the plastic and it looked like it had been dragged through a gravel pit.

Also get the stiff arm because it further reduces the strain on the bag right where they tend to rip and it for some reason also makes the bag feel lighter while you drag it.

There's a reason that a club glove costs twice as much as your "seemingly quality" bag. Club Gloves ARE quality bags.

Where do you buy the stiff arm from? Is it the long pole?

I have both. If I’m traveling where space isn’t an issue in the vehicle I use my hard case. If space is a premium I use my softcase since it can collapse very small.

I was a loyal clubglove user, till i saw my friends SunMountain Club Glider.   I switched and not looking back.  The Club Glider is so easy to pull.  Takes all the strain off your arms and shoulders.

  • 2 months later...

The single best travel tip I ever got was to put the clubs into the bag upside down and to load as many of the heavy items (shoes, extra balls, etc...) down near the wheels of the bags.

This shifts the center of gravity down low and makes wheeling the bag around immensely easier - far less weight to bear with your hand and arm. As easy as the Sun Mountain glider system? Probably not, but a huge improvement nonetheless.

The added bonus is that clubs are more protected this way, too, as the handle-end is less vulnerable.

I've been doing that for years and it has worked exceptionally well. I also take whatever towels I'm planning on using and place between the butt plate of the golf bag and top of the travel bag to eliminate movement.

On another note, I once opened my bag and the golf bag had been placed into the travel bag opposite of how I'd originally packed it. There was the customary card from TSA saying they'd inspected the bag.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.
