Scratch/Plus Handicap amateur male golfer vs. Nelly Korda (LGPA)

Played Bay Hill with an LPGA player. She played a mix of “member” (which likely would have been what ladies would play from around 6500, which would still be on the longer end) and blue tees (one back of member but one up from pro tee) and she beat me by 7 (72 vs 79). I am a 2.7 - so no scratch and I had a good day considering the tourney conditions of the course.

A “pro” game is just different, regardless of how good a YT golfer may seem. She shoulda been -2 but had double on 18 with unfortunate plugged lie greenside bunker. I view these as entertainment and nothing more (and I enjoy it). If they truly wanted to “beat a pro” they should put money on it to really see if they can play under the same pressure.

Einstein supposedly said if you can’t explain something to a 6 year old, you don’t understand it yourself.

He must never have read his own writing, by which he stands condemned by his own words.  Or maybe it was a bad translation.  Nothing, actually, to do with this thread.

Anyway, I have a hard time seeing how anyone could literally fail to understand what I wrote.  I kept it simple, avoided using words 6 years olds might not be familiar with like “subtext,” but still some people seem to be so lacking in elementary reading and comprehension skills (or honesty) as to profess (at least) not to understand what I wrote.

I do tend to express my opinion and go on to something else, since there is little point in arguing with people who by their own admission cannot understand simple declarative sentences.  And my opinions do diverge from those I see coming from most golfers, so to the superficial observer, particularly one without the capacity or qualifications to judge my opinions for himself, my behavior may seem troll like.

I do not, however, accept the rhetorical cup (of hemlock, to make it obvious), and will continue to express myself, showing as much restraint as I can muster.

And if that was to me…read again what you posted.  Yes, I knew what you meant but you did say “I could explain it to you guys, but of course cannot understand it for you.”

carry on.

He has been consistent for the last 6 or however many events since his "streak" started, absolutely.  Going on a streak like that just doesn't happen very often even for ELITE AM's.  Just last year he was 16th best NCAA player.  So while this is a new "hot streak" he hasn't been on it for a long time, he hasn't been that consistent for 12+ months.  Granted this streak is not sustainable, or at least other than Tiger we haven't seen a streak like this sustained for over a year, so I am assuming he won't stay that consistently good.  However it will be difficult to determine if he does since he is now playing against pros and will be in the elevated events.

Your point is valid, using him was not the best example, his past 6 or so months have been excellent and amazingly consistent.

What the heck are you talking about? You are seriously underestimating how good the kid is. He's still very much in the "still improving" part of his development. "Still improving" because he is still a teenager and getting reps with truly elite competition is NOT the same as being inconsistent.

He went from graduating high school to US am AND PGA tour winner in like a 20 month stretch, not to mention the remaining of his laundry list of accomplishments. Dunlap is ri-god-dam-diculous.

I have been watching a lot of LPGA, and KLPGA tourneys lately, and watching YT videos at 1/4 speed. Some of these women have the most technically perfect (and repeatable) swings I've ever seen. I am learning a lot from them.

@bobfoster Is that "watching YT videos at 1/4 speed" = Quarter-speed?

The young'uns often brag about "life pro tips e.g. watching  or listening to podcasts at 2x speed"

Yes, quarter speed (a setting that takes but the click of a mouse on YT to see). What I've been amazed by this week is the incredible hips/shoulders timing on the downswing. These women seriously maximize torque. They are (mostly) skinny, but the left arm is perfectly straight, and their hips kick slightly forward and down a fraction of a second before their shoulders and arms start the downstroke. You don't see this in rea time, and certainly not in 2X speed.

Want to see an absolutely perfect, technical golf swing? Just as an example, slow this down to 1/4 speed (those that don't know. if you're on YT. go to Settings > Playback Speed > Select .25 ... PS., mute the sound):

thanks @bobfoster... I've seen that the elite LPGA pros can sometimes have smash-factors that exceed the perfect "1.5x" KPI metric (presumably due to their technically-perfect swings i.e. they get more out of their swings vs the elite male pros w.r.t. angle-of-attack/ Launch angle/ spin combo)?

...p/s:  i don't have the sources to-hand w.r.t. the above, otherwise i would post them here for you. I think it was an analysis posted here on GolfWRX.

All I’m saying is the guy had 5 wins, 2  2nds, a 4th and a 5th against  some of the top collegiate fields in the country. Then he won a PGA Tour event.  If that’s not consistent, I don’t know what is.

I’ll retract my statement that the top 10 can walk out on tour and keep their card. But for the sake of this discussion, let’s just stick to Nick Dunlap. Can you possibly recognize that using him as the example of college players not being consistent Is maybe not the best example?

Plus Nick cashed a $32,000 check in his first outing as a pro…..
