Low bounce irons?

I’ve been playing Srixon Z forged the last few years and typically play in the firm conditions in north Texas. I’ve been thinking about trying something new different that the v soles that will do a better job of getting into the ground a little better. Any recommendations for some players irons with a sharper edge and lower bounce?

thanks!

Most blades will be fine.  If your willing to look at cb the Titleist t100 have a nice sole for hard conditions, in my experience.  The new Apex cb look to have a nice sole, but I don’t know the bounce numbers.  The TCB’s had a nice slim sole.

I absolutely love Srixon but they are probably the worst, along with like Ping i210/i230’s for the conditions you are describing.

I find the v sole, particularly on the blade being narrower, works fantastic in hard pan. If you want to try something new, I’d recommend worrying less about actual bounce and more about sole width. Leading edge relief can also be helpful. The 620 MB come to mind instantly. Keep in mind that in the blade world, you’re playing one that is up there in the more forgiving end of things. Others I’d take a close look at would be P7MC (very thin sole for a “cavity”), Wilson staff blade (thin sole, lowish bounce but lots of camber), and the Apex MB.

Mizuno will have low bounce.  If you want to stay in a blade then 221 or 241 models will suit your need in relation to your question.  You could also look at 921 Tour or 923 Tour because they're essentially blades as well.

I relocated just outside Dallas a year ago and have struggled to find irons that I love in these conditions. I started with ZX7s, which I loved prior to the move, but seemed to hit a TON of fat shots with them, which has never been an issue in the past. I feel like I am swinging pretty well, but the issue seems to pop up 2-3 times a round. I have tried several other iron sets, and am now in 620CBs, which are better but still struggling with the issue. I plan on getting a couple of demo irons - one a low bounce blade, the other a higher bounce, wide sole option - just to see if one works better than the other.

I play in all sorts of conditions here in SOCA, AZ, TX and the Islands.  I am more of a sweeper so prefer narrow, flat, low bounce soles with sharp leading edges.  Low bounce to me is -1' in long irons to 6' in PW

Notable OEM's don't make low bounce irons.  The lowest bounce I've found is my Titleist 620 MB and Titleist 620 CB sets.  I either have them shaved then SW adjusted or bent a tad strong, removing bounce.

The progressive bounce on new T100 irons work nicely, minimal in heel, gradually more moving towards toe.  Also had the long irons bent 1' strong, now negative -1.

I got this email tonight from New Level Golf. Their new 480TC has 1 degree of bounce in the 5 iron, increasing to 5 degrees in the pitching wedge. The muscle cavity has more bounce than the TC. I am assuming this is one of their Tour heads and they have some pros who want low bounce. Has leading edge relief too.

Their irons always feel great.

Sherman set the wayback machine for 1970.  most everything was low to no back then.  dig soles.  Now with the courses manicured to perfection it seems bounce is king.

still, if you hit a tight fairway I think a dig sole might be cool.  gotta get used to em though, both, tight lies and dig soles.  good luck down there.

my eye 2 have very little in the long irons.  Kinda a misnomer for me these days, long irons in my hands aren't that long anymore.

I came back to this thread to suggest New Level.  The leading edge relief on the 902pd’s I had was great through the turf.  The 623’s or 804’s might be perfect, and will save you a few bucks if they have the shaft you are looking for.

Remember split sole MIT from Macgregor?   now that was an iron that required a precise delivery.
