Unless you're playing events where the Model Local Rule G-2 (fka Condition of Competition) is applied, Zing irons are still conforming.  

 

The groove rule stated everything was OK until at least 2024.  They also stated there would be an announcement regarding implementation of the rule with respect to equipment manufactured prior to Jan 1, 2010, at which point there would be four years until those clubs would be deemed non-conforming.

 

And, that announcement has not come.  One of our WRX brethren confirmed this with the R&A.

 

Go forth with your Zings and be comfortable in still meeting the rules.

While not my favorite iron of the period (I've already stated those) I don't think the 1998 model of the Taylor Made Tour gets enough love. 

 

I have a set of these lying around in the garage somewhere from I used to play them.

I found this thread looking for info on the Handmade Stix LB-1’s because I heard they are the same steel alloy as the 962B’s . Just reading some of the comments brought back so many memories, so here is a contribution:

I loved my dci 981s, MP32 and my Taylormade RAC LT v1 irons. To this day I toy with getting a set and putting them in my bag.

I kid, I kid. The 962B/962 is hard to beat as is any number of PING irons, the TA 845s, TM Burner, Callaway X12s always caught my eye and the Hogan Apex and Mac blades of the time. 
 

Then there’s another category which is where I put MP14s, 681s, Nike blades. 
 

Hard to beat the 975D and PT fairway woods. 
 

The 588 RTG wedges would still be in my bag if they were conforming. 
 

I’m a sucker for the OG Teryllium Newport (no alignment line) and even the NP Oil can.

 

That was a really fun time to play golf.

Agreed. That Tour Premium CB was great. Another fave was the Maxfli A10 Nickel.

I remember hitting one of the best shots of my life with that lob wedge. I was a couple cocktails deep after a men's night and they set of a shot to a green about 60 yards away with the pin on a shelf and a green that runs away steeply. I opened the face and made as mighty a swing as I could make and it landed next to the pin and sat right next to it. No one else hit the green. I think it was worth a few more cocktails. Those were the (golfin') days...

The ISI in copper, but the nickel probably feel better.

Taylormades from that era - 300s, RAC CBs, X300 FCIs

Bridgestone Professional Weapons, Tourstage MR-23 (which I was using up until the summer)

Maxfli Tour Ltd - I finally picked up a NOS set of these last year (the JP model with double nickel)

Maruman Conductors (I think I have about 5-6 sets). They were a unicorn when I was growing up, but kind of a dime a dozen where I live now.

Daiwa Advisors (same as the Maruman).

Haig Ultra Crenshaw Grind - just a meaty old classic blade.
