Is there anything close to the 745s?

What’s up everyone. Just a question for those of you out there that think the srixon 745s are the best irons ever made. I’ve got 3 sets and try and buy a set anytime I can find one in decent shape. It’s getting harder and harder to find sets of them in above average condition. So my question is have any longtime 745 users found something on that level? I’ve tried everything srixon has come out with since. Thought the original zx7s were next best but still not even close. So is there anyone out there that loves the 745s and switched to something (any brand ) that you thought was close or better? Appreciate any feedback

Sub 70 659 CBs is the closest I have found to the 745s

Not that I have found. I’m on the MKII combo set and at address they still dont give me the 745 vibes. When I am looking at irons I start with the PW and just can’t find anything that has the 745 look not to mention feel.   I will maintain it’s the best looking Pw there is. 
 

the new cobra tours aren’t bad and I have to say the newest callaway apex pro PW looks very close and very tempting. Only reason I got rid of my 745 is the shaft and SW was off for me. But I always check the bay and 2nd swing for a clean used set with my preferred shaft to possibly snatch up.

745/945 series were a tough act to follow. I’ve tried all of the recent Srixon CB models over the years and while they were all good irons, they just never had the same vibe for me. You’re spot on with it being tough to find decent condition sets these days. I’ve always loved the 745 and 945 irons. All time favorites. I occasionally try to hunt down a clean set without ever any luck. I regretfully sold a nice set of 945s last year. I’d just keep stashing those 745s.

I have a 945/745 combo set still in the bag. Have yet to find anything that compares. Not a new set, but I have heard the Bridgestone J40 is close. Visually they are very similar.

Good comp here.  Here's one to look out for.  Callaway has made a new iron 2024 X Forged Star and there a just a few pros playing them.  I got big time 745/945 vibes from it.  But not sure if it will get a full retail release

I should have never, ever, sold mine all those years ago. But I didn’t have a lot of extra $ those days and didn’t realize what i had (also wasn’t nearly as good at golf at that time, had just started to get serious). But feel wise, those Cally X Forged the other poster mentioned were fantastic as well.

I am a club pro and have tried so many different irons just for fun to tinker with, I swear the 745s are unmatched in every category. Just a unbelievable iron

I was a big 745 fan and have had multiple sets. That said, any change takes adjustment and the ZX7 is a perfectly suitable replacement that actually improves in some areas. If they really couldn’t be matched, all of those pros who were stuck on them would still be playing them.

Money influences the switch, along with the same problem I have the irons are 10 years old harder to find ones in decent shape. I did say in the op that zx7 was prob closest for me. I still feel that they don’t match the 45s though

Z765's were my favorite irons ever but I haven't struggled to adjust to my blended set of ZX5/7's.

Still rocking my 745s and don't plan to get rid of them any time soon.  They are pretty beat up from chatter but still perform just fine.  Tools not jewels - I actually think they look pretty cool with the chatter-wear.  Until I see a drop off in performance due to face wear they won't leave the bag.

They are the best no doubt. 2 of my sets are all beat and pitted out I’ve just hung on to them to hoard cause I Love them. The last set I currently gaming is also pretty but but still way better than the others and haven’t seen a decline in performance

Having played the 745 in the short irons until they browned out and finding the 785 that I am still using;

I think the 785 is actually the better iron. They have the same distance control and actually feel better.

I tried the ZX7's for a few rounds and the 7 and 8 iron were going further so the gapping was not going to work.

See what this thread did...went right to ebay yesterday and found a set of black 745 from a Japan seller at a good price and decent condition.  Got an offer today and went back to give it one more thought before hitting buy and poof, they were gone.  Someone grabbed them...guess more than just us like those classics.

ive never played the 745, but always thought they were the most perfect looking irons. Classic lines, so simple. Maybe one day Srixon would go back to that design but in a slightly condensed headsize. Id preorder it blind.

Wow that’s crazy. Any I have seen in decent shape go fast. There has to be someone out there that has a set in plastic still

Before I owned my 745's I was using the Bridgestone J40CB's. I think those are the softest irons I've ever hit. So I went J40CB > 745 > 785. I absolutely love the 785 and find them to be so so similar to the 745.

Never tried the 785 for any length of time. Thought original zx7 weren’t bad but still nothing close to the 745s for me

The new srixons are everything the 745s were and more.

I was in z745s for a good while. When they needed to go I couldnt find a decent shaped replacement. Thus i moved to the z785s.

 

Even tho they supposedly used a different forging house and dont use tungsten in the long irons, they certainly feel very comparable.
