Premium Alignment Sticks

Recommended Posts

just go to your local golf store or driving range..  they likely have alignment sticks that don't cost much  in a myriad of colors..  usually see them in pairs in a big plastic clear tube..  then you can spend 100s on a custom alignment stick cover to really class it up hahaha

Just splurged on the Vessel black carbon ones with the white stick cover for them!

Hadn’t ever thought a need for these, until I read this topic. Lol.
Was in the Dollar store and saw these, pic below.  So picked up two.
Was in the club pro shop yesterday and noticed the SKLZ brand in use in the sim.

Comparing the two,  apart from the color and graphics they are exactly the same construction, right down to the end cap and pointed end.  Same factory I’m sure.

Dollar store , $1.25 each. (CAD)=90 cents USD.
SKLZ, online $24.95 for 3 (USD), ~$8 each.

Nice markup in the golf market.

As I said, I currently have the orange markers, but 48".  In fact I own 2 dozen, most are installed on my driveway currently.  60" must stick way out of your bag.  I ended up getting white 48" markers from Lowe's.  Look way better in the bag.  I might splurge or have my wife get me the Vessel ones the next time we exchange gifts for a holiday.  Those look nice, and are lighter, which is a benefit when carrying.

IMO, getting a nice leather alignment stick cover is what makes them more appealing in the bag. When they're being used the cheap sticks in a color you like is probably all that's needed.

What are some stick cover options? Been looking for a while but nothing seems to be in stock or decent quality

They’re (Vessel) actually no more expensive, and cheaper, than many other carbon fiber options.

did you get 36 or 48”? Curious if 36 makes more sense - more convenient.

for something that’s reusable and long lasting it’s nbd to me for $35 a stick

sure you can get sticks for $2-3 at the local hardware store. But in my experience they flex more, aren’t as straight, and fray over time. Splinters from a fiberglass stick is no fun.

same as a ball marker. You can get them free or for $0.01 to $0.25.

Or you can spend $30 for a special one that means something to you. Doesn’t do the job any differently.

It's all about the super ultra premium alignment sticks these days. My dispersion went from amateur to tour player overnight.

naturally this is the most common reply but I don’t really get why.

no one is saying a nice stick will make them better. But for a lot of people there’s some value in a “premium” option. Driveway markers splinter over time, for one. Color options. How straight they are. How they look. Whatever.

not sure why this topic invites more hate than any other accessory that won’t “make you score better.”

ball markers? Ball mark Repair tools? Tees? Belts? Headcovers?

even performance oriented stuff like aftermarket shafts that cost a crazy amount these days. Really unlikely they change your index much over stock options. But it’s what we enjoy.

and literally no equipment changes us from typical amateur to anything other than typical amateur.

It's the Simpsons or SNL level parody of it all. You can get a $2 rod that is ideal for the task. Or a $50 stick that is,  if anything,  less useful.   But the part I just can't get over is the boutique cover for my $2 rod. 😂

It reminds me of this old Ping commercial where they were mocking "exotic" driver technology and touting their 'time honored' designs. A golfer brags about his new driver and his buddy asks "it it titanium ?" Golfer says "no, plutonium!" and they pan back to him addressing the ball with a glowing clubhead while wearing a face shield and atomic sounds effects in the background.  I wish I could find a video of that one.

Amusingly, of course, Ping quickly got on the hi tech driver bandwagon.

It is possible to have "bad performing" alignment sticks. I had a pair of break-down ones that folded in half, with a bungee cord inside. After being folded and unfolded a couple dozen times they were about as straight as Hogan's goat.

But hey, they were even more expensive than the plain of 4-for-$15 straight fiberglass ones that never seen to bend, warp or break. I really can't see ever paying more than a few dollars for an alignment stick. I've lost a stick or two a year for the past decade so it would be silly trying to keep up with a fancy one.

I liked the commercial where the guy had 14 drivers in his bag, 'cause that's the most important club, right?

My fiberglass ones aren’t perfectly straight.

if I knew a stick would stay perfectly straight and had some other nice characteristics to boot, I’d pay $20 more why not.

and why do I would I like them straight when a slightly warped stick is fine bc I’m not a tour pro? Well it’s a lot nicer to work on putting with two straight-as-possible sticks.

goodstickgolf seems interesting. They have white sticks and the extra long caps seem useful

The magnetic tips on these also seem like a useful feature.

Fiberglass ones can break or warp. The worst thing on them...fiberglass splinters/slivers. Got 1 or 2 and they suck, but if you beat on the stick enough in certain drills best to just toss them.
