Yeah, so the wife was less than enthusiastic about the "deal."   That being said, I'm curious how long this will go on for and where exactly is the mixup?  Is the problem on TGW's side and they will lose out or is it Callaway that is losing out since we are just paying on TGW and the order is then being sent to Callaway?  Somewhere someone has to notice the upcharge is missing, right?  Wondering how much time I have before it goes away.

TGW does like once or twice a year on various brands and custom club builds. Whether it's intentional or not no one knows but the deal usually stays alive for a few weeks until someone either notices or it's over on purpose. Someone mentioned TGW and the OEMs might be on like a net-30 type invoice for these custom orders and they arent immediate between them to explain the leeway in time.

On my custom order there only stands my shipping address and a seperate billing to tgw from Callaway. So i would guess this last until TGW starts getting q2 invoices from callaway.

Okay. This is crazy. I was actually looking for 3 woods for me and my wife. I read the whole thread, I get black are velocore. Is red velocore also? I saw one red picture but everyone is talking about 8x. I do use TR blue 6s on the driver but not sure if black with suit me. Anyways, If Red 7 is velocore, I most likely will get it. Can someone confirm it is velocore? since only red that is OEM is for taylormade

Flyguppy ordered a 7s and it came velocore.  I think he was the first receiver of a confirmed velocore shaft from this deal.

I don’t think so. 
 

Blue non-velocore is an option on the Callaway website when you build a club. 
 

The reason it’s worked for black and red…. They were never made for Cally. In the black case, it was never made for anyone.

I ordered a 3w with a Blue 8x which was an option through TGW and since Fujikura did not make a OEM (non-Velocore) 8x option in Blue we shall see what comes in the mail. But logic says it should be a Velocore. If I had to bet this is prob their "Callaway's" way of clearing old stock w/o breaking the OEM rules. Pushes up sales for new Driver and get rid of shafts that are 2 -3 years old and 2 versions dated. just my opinion, either way I love the deal and thread.

8x Blue is not an option on Callaway site. The "TR Blue 8X" is an option. I was reffering to the Original Ventus, the Deal does not include the "TR" version. I understand what you said. But Reds are upcharge so, maybe. I just placed the order for 2 woods one with 6R and 7S, so will see. worst case I will return them

Best guess ? Maybe it goes something like this.

 

Customer orders club w/Ventus Black per website.

 

TGW gets customer's payment of $XXX. Ordering verifies payment and sends order to Cally for a Cally whatever w/Ventus Black along with the customer's address.

 

Cally makes club and ship to address & bills TGW (periodically ?)

 

TGW gets Cally's invoice, likely for any number of clubs, matches Cally's invoice to their orders, and pays the invoice.

 

The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing ?

 

This would be why calling up would be a "problem". You'd force somebody there to review the order(s).

 

So yup, "net invoicing" - until somebody there wonders why their profit margins on Cally clubs seem to be less than they should be,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I ordered a 5 and 7 with red 7s - to someone’s earlier point, it did open up my wallet but in my mind it shifted the value proposition to one that made sense. I can’t justify $350 for a fairway wood with a stock shaft, or $700 for one with my preferred shaft,  but $350 for this makes it affordable and desirable.

I think that custom orders are hard to return, but I took a screen shot (below) of the order I placed and it clearly has velocore on it, If the one I get doesn’t, then I don’t think they can refuse a return

Makes sense if they never made a Blue 8X as an OEM shaft.  Just like the black.

Got my 7W today, velocore black 8x. For some reason the 5W still hasn't shipped 😞

Does anyone have a per/gm price on "velocore?" I'd love to add a bit to my crab gumbo.

I ordered this tipped 1" which is what Fujikura recommends for 7W. The velocore logo being so close is weirding me out, anyone else do the same? I'm hoping it's just the hosel being so long making it look weird.

 

I was under the impression Callaway doesn't do any tipping unless you specifically requested. Will be interesting to see what the 5W I ordered looks like, I requested .5"

That looks like it was tipped an additional inch. Every Ventus is 4” to the E in Velocore so that would be a very deep BBGM.

Here’s McNealy’s bag from a couple months ago with Ventus Red in his 7w. It’s a Stealth but still bonded hosel and should be similar BBGM to the Ai Smoke TD.
