Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but Tom Lehman overrated?? Yes, he has won only 5 times with numerous chances, especially in the US Open, but he was in contention a lot, which says something. He was a 3-time Ryder Cupper, and he did win the British Open. He's never been on anyone's short list of the best players ever, but he's had a career that many guys would kill for. So to call him overrated is a bit harsh.

Villegas for the men right now. I say this because of tour achievement and commercial exposure. Lehman is past his prime so it's hard to say he is overrated. On the women's side it is definitely Wie. Has had some good finishes as an amateur, but doesn't have status on the LPGA tour. Oh yeah has huge long term deals with Nike and Sony.

Hard to disagree with those nominations. I like one of them, but he needs to win soon.

 

And an honourable mention in a new category - most up and coming soon to be overrated player - Colt Knost!!

I have to give Colt a pass. He's a rookie and has yet to make any sort of impact. Maybe in a year or two I can place him in that group.

with a win and a third place finish out of 4 events this year, I don't think you can say paula creamer is that overrated. Michelle wie is definitely overrated but I think she does have quite some talent. Villegas definitely needs to deliver and pull a win but I like him a lot. I guess I would say he's a bit overrated.

I obviously do not understand the question.

 

Phil Michelson has 33 PGA tour wins and 3 Major wins and is the number 2 rated player in the world. I think it would be impossible for him to be over rated.

 

I just do not know how to answer.

I think you aren't very familiar with either tour. Phil is #2 on the PGA tour - and noone is saying he's better than Tiger.

 

And Michele Wie? Whoever voted for her doesn't understand golf or is a hater. She's not a member of the LPGA.

Another one I think is over rated is Justin Rose. Kid has a good swing, but never seems to close the deal. Yet every time he shoots a good number in the first round, they have him winning 10 majors, then he goes 80-80 on the weekend to finish 50th. Anybody remember a few years back when he was leading the Masters after a few rounds? Everyone in the media was chalking it up as a win for him and he goes out and shoots 81.

For all the talk/media/buzz they get, i think Badds, CHIII, Stenson, Rory, Cink, Poulter are all way overrated.

 

Ai Miyazato is pretty overrated for all the attention she gets (mainly in Asia but she was supposed to be Japan's female golf savior).

Well the way I see it, if you have a card, you earned it. So not meeting expectations, maybe. Overated? Don't think it applies. Millions of golfers, a few hundreds with pro cards, cream of the crop if you ask me. It's not like most pro sports where you get drafted, get huge $$ upfront then they realize "they" overated you. Golf? You have to ear your way in and then earn the priviledge, EVERY YEAR.

 

Now golfers that make regular appearances in pro tournament, don't have cards and I can agree that they are overated: Wie and Daly.

The "problem" with threads like this, is that the word OVERRATED means different things to different people. Some people will throw in hype to be overrated, but hype and substance are different things. Phil is definitely not overrated. Someone also mentioned John Daly. IMHO, he's not overrated either, he's got 2 majors.

 

To me somone like Woody Austin is overrated. All this guy does is whine and complain about everything. I"ve never heard him thank a single person or sponsor in my whole life. He blames his slump in years past to having a wrong prescription in his eyeglasses. How big of a dumba** do you have to be to walk around, play golf, watch movies etc. for 2+ years then you say, Gee, maybe the lenses in my glasses aren't right. Rock on dude....This guy is more known for falling in water than anything he's done on the golf course. Unbelievable. And then he's full on delusional about how close he is to Tiger, and how he outplayed Tiger yada yada yads....CHOKE...gag...

 

Villegas hasn't won, but he's got skills. Woody's got nothing. I can't believe he actually won some tournaments.

John Daly is overrated - he may have won two majors, but that was a while ago. I just don't understand how people can love him so much when he's such a slob and looks like he barely cares.
