Balls per Round

How many do you use up?
While on vacation, I ended up on the first tee at True Blue in Myrtle and realized I only had nine new Z-Star's in the bag. Not having played the course, but having heard it was very hard, I suddenly became concerned I might run out. I am happy to report, I only lost one ball (after I hit it in a creek that I did not know was there). Unfortunately, I finished with exactly one undamaged ball and one "good" ball. All the rest got scuffed up by the grooves on my wedges or impact with a tree. Frankly, I was a little annoyed.

Today, I played 18 and used a more durable ball. Scuffed two and lost one.

How many golf balls do you use in average round?

1 or 2, i don't mind scuff marks, i'll wear balls out. i'd say most rounds i don't lose any but it happens. After the round if the ball is really scuffed i take it out and it becomes a practice ball

2 average sometimes 3 or 4 rounds. Depends on how many bunkers I hit, that's what really chews them up. I've gotten a lot better with not losing them. I actually just looked at my Gametracker, last lost ball penalty was about a month ago. I probably should pay better attention to condition of them. I hit a 3W off the tee a while back and it made this weird whizzing noise. Sure enough when I picked it up to clean the mud off it, the cover was cracked. I should mention it was one of those "refurbished" Prov's. That's the 2nd one I've had the cover crack on. I don't buy the things, just happened to find it at some point.

Ditto I don't change balls in casual rounds for scuffs unless the ball is basically unplayable.

Same here too, I used one ball for 4 rounds, yes it looked like crap but after 18 holes with it I decided to see just how long it would go, finally on par 3 (17) hit a hook into the water, bye bye ball!

Probably average losing .6 balls per round, and probably take one out of play due to wear every third round or so.

If I'm playing Angeles National I lose like 19 (hate that course).

EDIT: That was .6, not 6. Point six. Oops.

I'm finally down to where I can go full rounds without loosing a ball. I've been able to use the same ball for up to about 3 rounds before I won't play it anymore. Most shots I'm a sweeper so I don't scuff the ball to badly. But on my short iron shots I occasionally put a bad scuff on it. If it's a tournament round I'd probably switch out the ball more often

I've been using the B 330 s for the last two seasons and I must say that I'm very pleased with the durability.

Probably one or two. If i'm in a tourney, I will switch if I put a big scuff in it or every 3 holes, whatever comes first

That is antiquated thinking. When I played tournaments in high school now 20 years ago, I played titleist tour 100's. It didn't matter how well you hit it, because they would be egg shaped after you played them for more than 4 or 5 holes, and I was a good ball striker. Hit one a hair thin and you would crease it. It mandated the frequent ball switching. It is not necessary with current golf balls. The newer balls don't do that.

I recently had a friend complaining about the cost of golf balls. I told him he was absolutely incorrect--I can play a pro v1x for at least a round or 2 before needing to change it. Even in tournament play, the only reason I change a ball probably every 9 holes or so is cosmetic.

One ball lasts 3 rounds unless it's dry and tight then I rip the wedges pretty hard.

I go through two a round but they are TRASHED. I could easily go through 5 a round but I'm too cheep. It depends how many times I use my 60 deg.too. I have been shredding the crap out of the new Pro Vx's. Not just the shavings that you wipe off either. I am leaving little waves or ridges on the ball. I don't mind wiping off the shavings but those ridges have to be screwing with ball flight. I too am getting annoyed. At 45 bucks a dozen it is getting old.

I consider a good round is one that ends with the same ball I started with.

Same here. Played 18 today with the same ball in the morning. Went to a different course for 9 more tonight and it was just to ugly to continue playing with. I can make a ball last for 18 but it was roughed up. Hit 3-5 good full wedges and a couple huge flop shots. I don't mind playing a scuffed up ball as I am playing top dollar for spin/soft cover and touch around the green. If I was worried about tearing up a ball I would play something else but would lose the spin and feel. I figure on teeing up a new one every 18 holes even though at my home course I have made one last 54. There was hardly any cover left. I'll pull a ball out mid round when I can no longer find a non scuffed place to hit it with the putter. Not playing in comp any more but when I was I switched out balls all the time with minor scuffs and then made them my range balls.

Man I'm cheap...plus my driver can be erratic...I play a cheap distance ball off par 4 and 5's. If I find the fairway, I'll switch to my better ball, unless a shot I could lose my expensive ball. Of course, this is not in tournaments, I don't play in many tournaments anymore. Not to mention, I'll play that one expensive ball till I lose it. If I lose an expensive ball, it messes my head and I'll have a bad couple holes after that...but then again, no one is buying my balls for me, so I'm just cheap.
