HE IS DEFINATELY WEARING TRAVIS MATHEW!!!!!! SHIRT AND PANTS WERE BOTH TM IN THE FIRST ROUND. I HOPE THIS MEANS HE HAS A DEAL WITH THEM. BEING A TRAVIS MATHEW PLAYER MYSELF HE WOULD BE A GREAT PICK UP. NOT TO MENTION TRAVIS MATHEW IS TOP NOTCH CLOTHING AND DEFINATELY DOES NOT TAKE A BACKSEAT TO PUMA.......
I was wondering the same thing, pants looked like TM, but not sure on the shirt. I am a TM player as well and it would be a great pickup. Will check with my guys and see whats up....

EDIT -- check that... hes definetly wearing the I-Recline shirt, and on the website there is an empty team member profile with "new player to be announced" tagged with it... Great pick up for TJ and the boys!

He did look a bit like a school boy bunking off his afternoon classes yesterday,

so unusual to see him not in puma, he used to wear slim fitting trousers at puma the travis matthew did not look that way? Wonder if he likes the loose fitted look??

Also sorry for being unknowledgeable but what is travis matthews? we don't get it in the uk, is the quality good, price etc?

I agree he looks very out of place without the usual attire we are used to seeing him sport.

I hope the adjustment to the new gear is quick and spurs results now rather than later.

Best of luck mate!

Travis Mathew is a fantastic brand with some exciting designs and quality like no other. The guys who run it are fantastic and have definetly helped me out. The vision is from Travis Johnson (former UCLA golfer and mini tour pro) and John Mallinger. go to www.travismathew.com to check out the site. Some great new staffers this year.

Unless TM has some new colors for the next release, his shirt in the second round was not TM I don't think, the cut was not anything like a TM. His pants looked really short too, they looked like the Nooner pants. I liked his Two Pock from the first round, have the same one. I hope he does, they are very underated and unknown to most.

There are some great new colors coming in the summer line. Look for some greens, blues, purples, and as always black, white, greys. if you like their older stuff, the new line is gonna blow you away

Travis Mathew stuff is every bit as good, probably BETTER than anything Puma makes for golf. Don't let the plain blue TM shirt fool you, they have some REALLY cool designs, and the PIMA/poly blend is probably my favorite fabric on any golf shirt.. I'd recommend anyone to try it. Also, some of the shirts have built in collar stays which is really cool.. makes the shirts really look classy and high-end as opposed to my Nike and Lacoste where the collars just dont look that great after 9 holes..

Travis Mathew is in almost every high-end club down here in Southern California and is probably similar to the JL craze of years past.

I recently had lunch and a long talk with my Titleist/Cobra rep and this is what we discussed. My territory used to have a sales rep for balls/accessories and a different rep for clubs. They have since combined everything for one sales rep and expanded his territory. During tough economic times, they had to make some changes. The bulk of Acushnet's profits come from the sale of golf balls. They do not make money from clubs. According to my rep, their budget is set to break even on clubs and make money on their golf ball sales. They will continue to make clubs but they will probably scale back on how many different lines they produce between Cobra and Titleist. Titleist will remain the better player's clubs and Cobra will continue with game improvement clubs and drivers with interchangeable shafts with the ability to change face angles.
I added the BOLD emphasis which confirms my long standing belief that despite all of Titleist's tour presence and success, they do not make any money selling golf clubs. If your budget is only to breakeven, that says a lot for any corporate with a profit objective. Having said that, it's a scary prospect for all manufacturers in the industry. We may see other brands disappear altogether.

Also, with TW's problems affecting his draw of the "new golfers", I think we're in for a rough ride. That's why I believe that we should be supporting TW at this time, rather than tear him down further. When we bring him down, there are consequences for the game of golf.

According to the bumph and what I saw on a few snatched bits of tonight's play, he's still bagging the Cobra 9.1 Pro fairway woods. 710MBs in the irons (possibly a 710CB 2 iron in the wings?) and a trio of new raw Vokey C-C Spin Milled wedges by the looks of it from the Titlesit blog. Driver is apparently a 909D3/RIP combo.

On an unrelated note, Titleist: Please update the Vokey website with the new wedges that the staffers are bagging. good.gif

Very similar set-up to his old Cobra bag really. The irons are broadly similar, he's stuck with his old fairway woods, and his driver sets up similarly to his old one and has the same shaft. Looking at his wedges on the Titleist blog, they're very similar to his old ones in every aspect other than the grooves. Even the subtle differences in shape between the three wedges seems to have been faithfully reproduced.

It's a sensible move on Ogilvy's part given his play with the old clubs.

I think I read a post somewhere that had his irons shafts down as actually being modified Accras - albeit listed as Precision FCMs for marketing reasons.

It's never been a secret that Acushnet/Titleist is all about the golf ball. It's their bread and butter based on tremendous margins. The club business is a marketing program for the golf ball. They have been willing to pay for sponsorships and tour presence heavily to get the name out there and keep you thinking about the golf ball. They just can't put any old garbage in the hands of players, so there has to be some R&D expense to keep up with the industry and put out a quality club. But in keep in mind, they are not and never have been market leaders when it comes to clubs. They are always late to the game, but they come with proven technologies that another OEM cut their teeth on. It's only been recently where they try to expand the Vokey business with a Scotty Cameron like story because there are good margins in wedges. They are not going to go crazy trying to compete with TM and Callaway in clubs. Why would they?

It's been Acushnet's long term goals to achieve greater efficiencies between the Cobra and Titleist club line. The current economic condition is just placing a more focused lens on that process. But again, it always has been and always will be about the golf ball.

As far as the affect of Acushnet's latest changes in relation to the rest of the industry and Tiger Woods - nonsense. It was already proven in another thread TW does not bring new golfers to the table. The club objectives of Acushnet are nothing like the stock market pressures faced by Callaway and TM. While significant, Acushnet is not the driver behind Fortune Brands. They are expected to be smart with their money, but not be the revenue monster of the overall corporation. The golf ball is expected to meet targets and deliver profits. TW did not bring enough business to Titleist to justify $30M/yr like he gets with Nike. Acushnet did just fine without him just like the overall golf industry will survive without him. Golf as an industry needed to learn to tighten the belt anyway as the amount of spending and overpaying for sponsorships at all levels could not last at its torrid pace. TW is just an inflection point, not the messiah of golf. Tearing away at him is a non issue, just like his coming back is not going to mean a banner economic year.

Travismathew is a great addition to the golf apparel world with so many lines being wide and poor fabrics. Travis Johnson is a personal friend and I've been wearing his line since its inception. Travis is extremely OCD about what goes out the door and spares no expense. He has a little wire notepad with sketches and designs down to the sixteenth of an inch. I encourage all that haven't had the chance to sport some TM gear to give it a try. The polyester waffle is my favorite fabric out there to play in. Very light and comfortable. I'm stoked for the addition of Watson and possibly Ogilvy and Baddley (haven't spoke to Trav in a couple weeks so the contracts may be finalized now).

I am pumped to see him wearing TM. I picked up a couple of their shirts recently and am absolutely hooked. I have a closet full of nike, adidas, and various other brands, but have not worn anything else since I bought the first shirt. I now have five of them, and looking to add to the collection. Contemporary, but classy, look with performance fabrics and an athletic cut. I have shared a couple of e-mails with the guys over at TM and they have always been very quick to respond and very helpful in answering my questions. Hopefully these new additions to their staff can get them some additional exposure. GO would be a great fit for their brand.

They have a number of fabrics, but the one I'm referring to is very thin poly and I have not seen anything else like it around. It's called the waffle. They also have a thin poly that is similar to the underarmour IMO but thinner and a little less spandex-like. Still stretchy, but not as extreme. You will definitely love it.

I have a few with the waffle.. but the Pima/Poly blend in just ridiculously nice! I don't think anyone's using Pima Cotton let alone in a poly blend. It's thicker than the waffle, but still very cool and holds up really well.
