Can you compare the JPX 800's to the G15's for us?

I seriously considered the 800 (cast clubs, not forged) simply because I loved Mizuno but was trying to move away from the MP line. I just didn't trust that Mizuno would be as forgiving as some of the more 'traditional' Game Improvement companies.

What do you think?
absolutely, i've got a few rounds and a bunch of practice in with them so far. So ok, here are my thoughts:

Feel: The pings feel better to me. It's subjective obviously, but to me the Pings have a cushion like feel whereas the Mizunos are a bit more firm. I would compare it to an insert putter versus a non insert one. I never thought i'd say that using ping as the insert putter example but that's the way i think it is. The G15's weren't loud, they sounded soft, they felt the same all over the face. The Mizuno's are a bit different, more clicky, thin shots feel weak even though they still travel.

Look: also subjective, but i think the Mizunos look sexy in the bag. If you care about looking like a player (which some do), you'll get player cred with Mizunos whereas with the G15's, i felt like people would see me play a few holes, look in my bag, and then say "wait....what?". The JPX's have a thick topline and long blade but somehow don't look too big in the bag. The G15's look like toasters. Also, the JPX's have noticeably less offset if that makes a difference

Forgiveness: Pretty even. I've been shocked by the JPX's in that regard. They are almost the perfect club because they make you feel your misses without punishing you for them. I had 215 in the other day and pulled 4 iron, i hit it a bit thin and based on how it felt i expected it to fall 15 yards short of the green. I put my head down and take a little stab at my divot...then look up and see the ball land on the green pin high. I swear i lost virtually nothing yardage wise and i thought i lost 15 yards at least. It's the same thing with toe or heel shots. You always think you are losing more yards then you do. The pings it was harder to feel your misses, though i got pretty good at it.

i love them.
Hmm, ok thanks for the honest feedback. IDK if you'll recall but I tried the G15's for a long time. I did have some great scoring with them, but my biggest beef with them is apparently what you like about them: The feeling of soft contact, consistent anywhere on the face.

I found my lazy personality set in, and my swing got 'lazy' without the feedback. The thing I learned from the Ping G15 experiment was that I do indeed like GI clubs... even SGI clubs, but hate the muted feel. So perhaps the JPX 800's are something I should look at.

Right now I still have the Diablo Forged in the bag, and swap them out with MX-200's just for fun. The Diablo forged do not have as good a feedback on misshits, but man do they go... far. It is a real shame Callaway stopped making that iron... all they needed was a rebadging, and new marketing to get away from those silly bicycle decals on the back... Sorry... ranting a bit there.

I'm not a great golfer, but honest enough to know as much as I love Mizzy, I benefit from help. I grew to a bizzarre... almost... love/hate relationship with the G15's but the 800's might be the way to go if I want some feel back on misshits to keep the swing grooved.

Thanks.

David Peoples of the Champions Tour shot 68, 62, 70 using Ping G15 irons with graphite shafts at last weeks 3M Championship in MN. Gotta love those Ping GI irons. I turned in Titleist AP1's today and went for the G20's after hitting them on the range. Straight shot after straight shot convinced me to give them a try.

Saw this thread for the first time about 15 minutes ago. Interesting to say the least. It is the third year for my g15's. I've tried to displace the G15's with sticks from two different manufacturers in the last two years.
Razor Tours, MP 53's
All to no avail and little more $$$ than I care to admit.

I had G10's and started playing so good (for me anyway) that my head got pumped up enough to move to players irons (first i5's then i20's). About a dozen rounds later and I was back with a set of G20's. Won't make that mistake again (wasted $).

well i'm using G10XG's now

LOL
OMG this thread is back! Haha nice...hopefully the G25 irons don't tempt you to much when they eventually come out.

I'm currently still an i20 irons user, and still have 1-2 thin shots per round that still make it to the green and I just have to marvel at the technology...

they keep making the soles wider. The G10's were smaller then the G15's. i'm hoping i can hold off. I liked the G10's even when i had the 15's.

the 10's shoould last at least a year LOL

I keep hearing that the G10's feel much firmer than the 15's/20's - what are your thoughts on that? I probably don't want the answer to that question though, because that will probably result in me getting a set of G10s LOL

I played G10's for a year and use 20's now, and never noticed any difference in feel. There might be something there if you hit them side by side, but it's not significant.

Why the XG do you need conforming grooves?
A few reasons:

-Golftown had a lot of the XG's and blew them out at good prices brand new
-I don't mind the new grooves at all
-I do think that Canadian Amateur tournaments are enforcing the groove rule in 2014 though i am not certain. I didn't want to end up having to switch if i liked the clubs. There is a chance they will last 2 years + (don't laugh, really there is!)

I've gone full circle but the other way in the last 8 months, G10Xg --> G15 with a fair few sets in between. It's fair to say I have come to my senses. These will be in the bag for sometime.

Still tempted to try a K15 to continue the bag of forgiveness.

my guess is the G25's would come out in august, as most of the time that is when the G series does.

If i got another G series i would probably do it with the bounce/trailing end grind. The clubs keep getting bigger and bigger. I actually prefer the 10's to the 15's because they are just as forgiving but don't look as bulky.

If the G25's are even bigger then the 20's, i still may get them but probably not without getting the grind on them

That would be great. I mean it makes sense too, i never really got the august release. Having clubs ready at the start of the PGA season seems a better fit

Jeff - I think someone had posted in the G25 thread that the new G iron may be a little slimmer. We shall see. I could probably handle the sole width but the offset irks me too much to really consider Ping irons.

Well, I took the plunge again. It's not like I don't like my
i20s......but I just got a set (4-U) of Rapture V2s. It was
already getting dark when I opened the box tonight but
I had to go outside and hit a few balls into the woods.

Wow, these hit the ball really high. I dropped a few balls
in the grass and pulled the 4 iron out. These irons are
hybrid-like with a high penetrating flight. I was pretty
impressed and the feel was not so bad either.

Then I hit a few U wedges. They go almost as high as
they do far. Might be an issue on windy days but I
generally prefer my iron shots to fly high and land soft.
I had a set of G10s a few years ago and they flew
pretty high and I had no issues with them.

These irons feel like turbo charged G10s. I'm just
hoping they don't have hot spots. The G10s didn't
but this is my first go with a titanium face. Anyway,
I'm looking forward to my next round and I'll post
on it when I get a chance.
