I went and got g20's cuz I read your thread about the g15 and now you have switched over to TM ( who as we speak are gonna launch the Burner 3.0, with the 4.0 ready to go next month) J/K dude. You have posted some of the funniest comments on the WRX. If you get a chance to come to Mil-town give me a shout and we can play a round.

i was actually there earlier in the year, will do!

It was bound to happen at some point. I'm really happy with the Burners. I never thought i'd end up playing TM but messing around with them i just loved the look and hit them well. I guess it was just time to look down at something else.

that being said, they are still GI's! Would've been way worse if i ended up with blades. I would have had to quit the site

How far are you hitting the 4 iron? 240ish?

Ah ha! I get to resurrect this thread! I've read it over the past week or so with great interest, though I'm far from a low handicapper.

 

I've got a set of G15s, 4-PW, coming in next week. Best part is that I was able to pay for them entirely with Christmas gift cards. God Bless my wife's rich uncle.

 

The fitting was interesting to me. I'm about 6'4" with shoes. The WebFit had me at just .5" long and silver dot (3.75 upright.) That seemed a little short in the shaft and a little excessive in the lie angle. The fitting at Edwin Watts ended up pointing me towards a full 1" long and blue (.75 upright). Stiff stock shafts.

 

I'm not sure how common it is to have "web" vs "actual" fitting differences that large, but I'm very much looking forward to testing out the results next week!

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm a 10hc looking to get to at least a 5 this year. I've been playing Hogan Apex Edge irons for the last 8 years I think. I was thinking of getting another set of forged irons but this thread has me thinking game improvement all the way.

So G20's or i20's?

I hit a little draw (hook when I'm off) so any recommendations? Other than looks would there be a good reason for me to buy the i29's over the g20's?

Can this thread be officially called the one that wouldn't die?! And that is a good thing! It inspired me to pick up a set of G5's a while back, although I got shafts that were way to stiff for my game and were a color code off. No matter, I just ordered some G15's for not much more than I sold the G5's for. Sweet!

Golfwarrior, the i20's are going to be less of a shock to the system to look down on coming from the Apex's, but they won't be nearly as forgiving as the G20's. I have hit them both, but only in a simulator off mats and hit them equally well, but I know that out on the course the G20's will be much more forgiving. I think the Maltby credo to "buy as much GI as you can stand to look at" is a good one.

Having said that I think the i20's are as pretty as a cast iron could be. I personally don't mind ugly and find the G series to be beautiful in their own industrious kind of way.

I will keep it going...this thread sucked me in some months ago. I play Mizuno MX-25, but I don't get to practice much anymore so I was intrigued with thought of something more forgiving. I picked up a set of Ping G2 4-PW for $90 and a G2HL 4 iron for $10, so I could try this out for $100. The shafts are reg, so I am hitting moon balls with them. Have a set of Project X 5.5 that I am going to try out in them to see what happens. I know...G2's. I am such a technology trailer. But I like the narrower sole width of the G2. Maybe I could be a trend maker and have everyone chasing down an old set of G2's? Dare to dream. Dare to dream.

Well my turn to chirp in with my Gi story, played golf for 35 years and never broke par, got my g2's and two years later shot a 69 in the club championships and also with a coworker a year later. So they must work. Also had a square Nickent driver but got rid of that because it was loud as it was ugly.
Got the itch to buy some new clubs so are the G20 the obvious choice or does adams make something you could recommend.

the i20's don't have enough offset. I need offset, i denied it for so long but SGI or not i need a club that has a lot of it. I'm hitting the Burners really well. Truthfully i'm not a TM guy at heart. As well as i hit them part of me wishes i'd gone with JPX800's or the new Razr X black. Or EZ1's

I want to have a look at the Razr X blacks in stores. As Minhjn will tell you i have a lot of Callaway love. Even when i was playing ping i always had Callaway woods

After reading this thread at least a dozen times I finally pulled the trigger on a set of G15's 4-LW z-z65 soft stepped with the sand and lob having the tour grind. My only concern is the lob wedge, but for the price it was worth the chance. Not a low capper at 11.4, but I hope to grab a few more greens a round this coming season and get closer to a single before summer's out.

Question. By this thread I'm guessing most here think the head is helping more than the shaft. I'm working with a fitter on a component set and have been vacillating on the head thinking the shaft is more important. Maybe I should go with the most forgiving head, the Wishon 870 for my 15-20 hcp. It is a little big, however maybe I will forget this if I'm playing well.

EZ-1'S do not have a lot of offset though
