Probably just showing my age, but can someone fill me in on how one games irons?
Don't you all play this great game using clubs/ tools like the rest of us?

I mean we play the game of golf, not game the game of golf- is it a video game generation thing?
Really just trying to understand here.

I think gaming means putting those irons in your bag when you play an important match. I have 4 sets of clubs, only two are "gamers". I am now "gaming" a Ping G15 driver. Yes, you are old.

i don't know never played blades, but i fell in love with the mizuno mp 33 when i first laid eyes on it 6 years ago. I had been playing golf for about a month, and took my first trip to the golf store. I walked in, looked around, and I found the mp 33s. I thought to myself these are what i need to be playing. To say the least its been 6 years, and i am still a 14 or 15 handicap. Saw a set of clean mp 33 at golf galaxy last weekend for 157, and almost bought them. I might sell my idea pros and just say to hell with it and start playing them. There is only one way to learn to play blades, and that is hitting them. Good move?

Great move.

I'm kind of partial to my Nickent ARC Blades. Too bad the company couldn't make a go of it - JBH designed a nice forgiving blade in this set that very few people will ever get a chance to hit.

arc_blades_iron_large.jpg

I was just given a set of tour issue ARC blades 7-pw with the 4, 5 & 6in 4dx pro's and am loving them so far. The ARC blades feel buttery soft and have a little forgivness to them. I have been really surprised how much I like them!

wow those look nice! anyone else hit these?

They are not easy to find but sometimes you will see them pop up on ebay.

They do look nice!

Great list..you left off three though that were and are still amazing and just don't get the love because they are not a huge manufacturer or got bought up. But these irons off eBay for $150 per set sometimes can be found, and I doubt you will find too much better. They are in no particular order

Macgregor VIP Tourney V-Foil 1025m
Maxfli Australian Blade MCT-97 (Maltby's version)
Tommy Armour 845M Silverback (another Maltby design)

all of them can be had for cheap and all of them are pure butter for the money.

:o lucky.... I ended up selling the 3-pw for like 175 for my dad to put toward his burners. We kept the 2 iron though and I can tell you that will never leave my possession. Those are great clubs you will enjoy them. Also Greg Norman played these at one point so whats not to love.

What about these? Are they any good compared to the ones on the OP's list?

Excellent iron choice. I'm partial to Mac's and have the VIP 1025M's in my bag currently. I've hit with both DGS300's and Fifle 6.0's. The lofts were older spec and I had my loft increased to match my old set of TM TP MC's and the lie increased to +1 and I'm loving them.

+1 for Australian Blades w/Rifle 7.0 - my current set up. Quite forgiving for a blade compared to the ancient Taylor Made Tour Preferred and Wilson X31 blades I used to use as a kid. Didn't like the Bridgestone J33Bs (too much offset for me) but I'd still love a bash with the 681s or MP37s.

Ram Tour grinds for me. I had a set in my younger days, I wouldn't mind a bash with a set again for old times sake. There are plenty I wish I owned. Not playing a set of Australian blades was a major regret.
Too bad you're on the other side of the pond, I have a few sets of Rams. :D

Several years ago, I had a chance to buy a set of Muirfield 20ths for all of $70 (or £44, if you prefer), they were in great shape. I hesitated, went back to that shop a week later, and they were gone.

Not my best move.

Oh I believe it because I'm exactly the same way. :drinks:

If you come across a set you love, a set that you think is one of the all time greats--then it happens again and again over the years and you have plenty of storage (e.g., easyyy's basement), why in the world wouldn't you let them pile up?
