PICS! TaylorMade Releases "RocketBladez" Irons

Recommended Posts
Was anybody else on the Taylormade Homepage about 9:01 and saw that the counter went away and it said in big bold letters "Triton is here!" ?! I thought maybe they were bringing out the Driver AND Irons in the same day unexpectedly. Could have been a marketing tease, or a mistake. Very shortly after that they took it down and it was 100% Rocketbladez info....

Curious if any of you saw that or just me? Surely a bunch of us were on the website around that time.
Nope, you're exactly right. Saw the exact same thing. I'm guessing ALL of their website was tagged with Triton and set up to switch over at 9:00 to replace that tag with Rocketbladez. That obviously took a few minutes longer than they thought!

No other opinions on this one?
No opinion needed. triton was the code name for this release--like "Troy" was code name for RockeBallz, and Vader was code name for r11

Interesting to note that they compare 6-irons to other manufacturers clubs on their site, but don't mention that the lofts are stronger (+1.5º & 2.5º vs Cally's RAZR X & Tour for instance) and that the shaft is longer...
yes the lofts are stronger, but usually you have 7-8 yards between clubs if not more. and the lofts between clubs are 3.5-5 degrees. so TM is longer by a whole club, when adding just half a club...so TM is a half club longer if that makes you feel better.

and they have to turn the loft down because the club goes so high, it has nothing to do with making it longer, its all about the height, with lower CG it means high ball flight, so you turn the loft down to even out the flight

Wow, Those are rather strong lofts until well into the set. No wonder they are longer, super light shafts and strong lofts with a speed slot.

Edit- strong lofts on STD
Well that makes total sense because when you get into long irons the length of the shaft actually brings more ball speed/distance than one less degree of loft. In the short irons its the opposite, the loft is what changes distance more than shaft length. I would be interested to see the shaft lengths posted.

Hmmm... split set 3-5 RBladez and 6-P RBladez tour? Yes. That'll do.
I'm thinking the same thing. My biggest issue is with my 5 iron right now. If i don't hit it perfectly I lose 10+ yards. You'll have to screw around with the lofts though if you want to do a split set since the loft progression of each set is different. The Tour lofts are fairly standard but the RBladez are jacked even stronger than the R11 irons. This will make for a big gap between 5 and 6 iron.

I'll look forward to learning more about the engineering here and also to seeing the Tour version. My first impression is that this is old tech - the original Big Bertha iron in 1994 sported an undercut channel and a supposedly thinner face to increase distance, which it certainly did. On these new RocketBladez, I guess the second polymer filled channel allows for more weight redistribution and some vibration dampening?

But if the Tour version is low offset and makes everything a club longer while preserving accuracy and some semblance of feel, my interest is piqued for sure.

People can be blinded by love as well as hate...

Neither closed in my thinking nor full of hate - was just stating a fact as was thinking their club comparison is a little unfair as it dosn't share ALL the facts.

Still keen to try them to see what the feel, flight and comsistency is like, but will keep in mind the loft/length if/when any distance is gained.

Interesting thought. I was hoping that perhaps with these, I could get the same distances from the long and mid irons with maybe a quarter or half inch shorter shafts, which would be awesome. But perhaps that is wishful thinking.

I wonder, will shots hit lower on the face and flighted down go proportionally longer than with traditional irons? If I can get my knockdowns closer to the distance of my normal shots, that could be a very compelling value proposition.

Currently gaming burner 1.0 and wanting a more players iron. This wasn't it. The A wedge is hot. But I will wait for the tour version to judge. If its loads of gimmick and same performance I will opt for a set of new old stock mizzy or tp mc. For the guys that won't drop coin for the newest thing when 6 months from now it will be on ebay half price this may be the next big thing.

Looks like the "new and improved" Burner 3.0 version called RBladez...........lol
TM can sure hype.

Look for these on ebay early next year for $400 complete set....or cheaper.

TM...flood the market and sell'em big time.
