UPDATED VIDEO & PICS: Nike Covert Drivers, Woods & Irons

This is an interesting approach from them to release clubs first before they are able to officially announce/intro Rory. I mean that in the sense that they are saying "here are our new clubs, Rory will be playing these" as Opposed to "Rory signed with us and we are happy to announce he will be playing these new clubs" The clubs come first and i think that is a smart move for them. I really like the looks of the soles of all of the tour stuff. I agree that the silver on the non tour looks sorta cheap (not sure cheap is the exact word but it's close) I also am concerned a little about the sound the driver makes. Though it's probably not an issue (can't be worse than the RBZ tour).

Also, I am sure TM is looking forward to their reveal of the R1, if that's what it's called, to come on the heels of this. Should be an interesting spring. If anyone wants to take me to the PGA show I am just a PM away!

I've hit the VrS Covert Tour and Performance drivers along with the TM R11s and Titleist 910 D3. All stock OEM setup with a stiff shaft, 10.5 loft or set to 10.5 loft and face angle set in the most neutral position. Hit six shots with each driver, launch numbers captured with TrackMan and good weather during the session.

I don't hit the ball hard, club speed in the 94-95 mph range; ball speed 142-143 mph, but fairly consistent contact with Smash Factor usually at 1.49 or 1.5.

For me the Covert Performance was 7-10 yards longer than the R11s and 910; it was longer than the Covert Tour as well. The Covert Tour is a low launch and low spin head; not a good combination for my low swing/ball speed. The Covert Tour was the shortest carry distance of the four drivers however both of the VrS Covert drivers produced better ball speed than the TM or Titleist.

I have my TrackMan numbers somewhere; I'll find them post a summary of the 6 shot averages. 7-10 yards longer is huge for me since I don't hit it very far to begin with. This driver for sure will be in my bag.

I like the red color so that is a non-issue, the white Swoosh on the heel is not distracting and Nike got the sound right on both of these heads. The feel.........very solid. When you get the opportunity to give these Covert a try I think you'll like the performance.

Well I have to give it up to Nike, on what looks like a real winner for 2013! Nike really did create something incredible with 5* of loft change available which is independent from FA (WOW). Now to see if the new tech performs up to snuff at the golf course will be the real test. If it works Nike may change the minds of all the haters here at golfwrx. I've never seen as so many have already said ...... so many positive responses for TEAM NIKE!

Thanks for sharing, I'd like to see those trackman #'s when you get a chance to post. I can't wait to see how this New Nike Covert Tour stacks up against my TM Superfast TP V1. If it's as good as advertised we may se a lot of golfers with some Nike Drivers in the bag this coming season.

"The 460cc Nike VR_S Covert Driver will retail for $299 and come stock with a 50g Mitsubishi Kuro Kage 50g shaft.

The Covert Tour Driver is 430cc, pear-shaped, and comes standard with a 60g Mitsubishi Kuro Kage shaft. Retail will be $399.

Both will be available in February 2013."

Am I missing something here or is the retailer going to be able to justify the difference in price between the standard and tour model? 10 grams in the shaft and Black 430cc makes the club $100 more?
I don't think it will be that difficult really. Other companies have been doing it for a while, seperating their tour model vs standard model by shaft only (TaylorMade) or pricing them both at the higher price point (Titleist). It is not just the club head size and shape that is different though; the tour is going to launch lower and spin less. Not saying it will sell better or fit more players, but there is plenty of justification there.

I am very curious to see the feel and sound.

I imagine we will see more info about what this weighting does for a shot, more forgiving is what I heard in the interview but what does it do for shots on the sweet spot? Any more distance.

My first thought after seeing these is what custom shaft options will be available. I have played a KK 70 in a 3 wood and thought it was okay, I play an 80HY in my hybrid and love it. I wouldn't want it in a driver for sure. Mine were the original KK not the new silver ones, and I don't know what these will be (although the 50g I imagine is a made for shaft).

Also I want to know more about the difference in the 460 and tour versions. I am not complaining about the $100 difference, but I want to know what the specific difference is.

I just read what I have written and I am whining too much, sorry. I really like the wat this club looks, particularly the amazing contrast from the bottom with the cavity and the traditional looking crown.

How long will the shafts be in the FW's and HYB's? If you set up to play the loft of a 5w wouldnt you want the shaft shorter?

You would think since they can adjust the lofts from 8.5-12.5, it would be easy to manufacture left handed drivers. It might be a first for lefties to have the same options as their right handed counterparts.

The 3 wood is adjustable from 13-17*, so not 5 wood loft in there. I would imagine the 5 wood is 17-21* and has a shorter shaft but I'm just guessing.

There are two separate fairway woods. One is a 3 wood and the other is a 5 wood, so you could have a weaker lofted 3 wood at three wood length & a weaker lofted 5 wood at five wood length.

I'll give this a shot at the PGA Show. If it performs, I may put it in the bag after refinsishing the crown to Matte black, and removing the swoosh if possible. The sole however, is very clean and mean looking. Great job Nike.
