3. Amelia Island - Ocean Links Course
Personally, I wouldn't necessarily put Amelia Island in my Top 5. But, it really is a fun golf course. And very underrated. Those back to back par 3's along the ocean are fantastic.
I'd agree. I haven't played anywhere near the types of courses apparently most on here have played, but for me for now I have to.

If you ever want to play Trump again let me know, which course did you enjoy more? Champ or River?

My top 5

1) Rockaway Huntclub (oldest country club in America)
2) Pebble
3) Kiawah
4) Spanish Bay
5) Congressional

Wasn't too enamored with Spyglass, maybe because in the NE, we have tons of tree lined golf courses.

I will take a stab, in no particular order.

1) Medinah #3: Chicago, IL
2) Boston Golf Club: Hingham, MA
3) Kittansett Golf Club: Marion, MA
4) Cog Hill, Dubsdread: Chicago, IL
5) TPC Boston: Norton, MA

Medinah and Boston Golf Club were my favorite overall experiences. Medinah had a buzz and aura to it that is hard to describe. BGC has an almost perfectly opposite feeling of solitude and quiet. Just special places.

Do you mean Pete Dye Golf Club in WEST Virginia, or are you talking about a specific Dye design in Virginia?

Southern Hills
Pinehurst #2
Pikewood National
Half Moon Bay Old Course
Mystic Rock

P.S. I looped Torrey Pines for 3 years and it is a awesome course. It certainly deserves mention on my list as well.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I went the first week in May and weather was great. I don't know if aficionados would call the Castle Course a genuine links course or not. It looked like it to me, but it is nothing like the New/Jubilee/Eden courses (didn't get to play the Old Course). On the other hand what I saw of Carnoustie didn't look like a links course either. The Castle is a striking visual...the only thing I've seen as stunning with my own eyes is Whistling Straits. If you go to St Andrews get the three day ticket, as the Castle Course is included in it. My own personal favorite was the New Course, followed closely by the Castle. I liked the Eden Course too, the Jubilee not so much. Kingsbarn will cost you 200 pds for one round, so you you have to decide if it's worth that to you on a personal level. Some people gush over TPC Sawgrass, I've played it twice and wouldn't walk out my front door to play it again unless it was free. Harbour Town or Blackwolf Run....I'd walk a long way to play them again and pay for the privilege. Food & drink in St Andrews is fabulous, too. From the Castle Course:

I think there has been some changes to the course since I was there last but I really did not like the Castle Course at all. I personally felt like I wasted a round there and really wish I would have played another round on old or new instead.

I understand that very well, we had 8 in our group and more than half hated the Castle Course and vowed to never play it again. What's funny is that more than half didn't think much of the New Course either...but that was after playing the Old Course. I ordered the yardage books for the Old/New/Jubilee/Castle courses ahead of time and was amazed at how much the Castle Course reminded me of Whistling Straits...yardage book was exactly the same format too. If they would flatten the greens out some it would have a much more positive reputation...I reached a par five in two on the front and then five putted--the first three came right back to me. On the other hand, I nailed a three iron into a stiff breeze from 195 yards across the cliffs of 17 to inside ten feet for an easy par...that's my key to "I wanna play it again." Only next time without injury so I can hit it at 100%. BTW...it's really awesome you got Don White after MacGregor shutdown, he is a true artist.
