These aren't necessarily the toughest courses I've played, but on each course I walked off with a big smile because they were so much fun. My group of six players cancelled our tee times at Lahinch so we could play Ballybunion a second time.

I hope you had played Lahinch before. Ballybunion is fantastic but its hard to fathom skipping Lahinch when you have a chance to play it. Lahinch is just too good to pass by.

I had the same thought when I read dave's post. I know its all personal opinion at some point, but I prefer Lahinch to Ballybunion. On the other hand, if you're staying south of the Shannon, Lahinch could be a PITA to get to.

Jeez, hard to name just 5. I have been lucky enough to play a lot of nice courses in my life.

My 5 are courses I would be fine playing everyday for the rest of my life and are in no particular order. They aren't the hardest or most challenging or even the most exclusive, but I would be happy to tee it up there everyday until I die.

I've been looking at playing Castletown recently. Can get a quick flight across from Manchester for only £50. Might have a serious think about it if you're rating it up there with the other 4.

It's the best hidden gem I've ever played. I was there for the TT and wanted to get some golf in and played there, the setting is incredible. Is it going to be the hardest/longest course ever? No, but it's gorgeous, fun, and the members are great too. To be fair I played Caves Valley last weekend and that probably pushed it out of my top 5. Castletown has an absolutely stellar finish as well, I loved it. If there were more people playing it regularly I'd say it could be a Top 100 World Course, but it's so remote. The 17th Tee Shot over the cliffs is one of the most beautiful tee shots I've ever seen. I definitely recommend, and the rate is an absolute steal as well.
