Anyone take advantage of boxgroove.com clubs in the Seattle area? Curious which one to play? Coming up in March and not sure Chambers greens all 18 of them will be ready for play. Don’t want to pay for playing on temp greens. Thanks

Where are you trying to play?

Sahalee Country Club, but it’s not a garuntee cause it’s by memeber request and wasn’t sure if I should upgrade on boxgroove. It would have been long shot!

Not sure if anyone still uses this thread- played Mount Si the past few weeks out in Snoqualmie. They're trying to let the tee boxes recoup and have most of the tees have pads to hit off, but the course is in really good shape. Some standing water in places that almost makes it seem intentional. The course is super dry and a really fun trek to get around to this time of year.

That is the saddest review of a course I've read yet:) You are willing it to be in good condition. Just be honest. Perhaps you just loved the opportunity to be out golfing. I know that happens to me all the time!

It’ll slow play but I like the accidental expanded pond in front of 9.

Two completely opposite conditions.

The standing water comes off areas where water is intended to be in play. Almost like those hazards have just been expanded. The 95% of the course that remains- tees, greens, fairways etc. are extremely dry.

Ah, I see. I'll have to try to get out there. Although this recent cold snap might have effected things a bit. I've only played the course once and it was a pretty social round so I'm not too familiar with the layout.

I played West Seattle this morning - it was amazing how firm the course was. I have played there for many years and several places like the 1st fairway were usually a quagmire. Now it compares favorably to some of the renowned drier courses around here, like the Classic, Home Course, etc.

Bellevue and Jackson park are in OK shape. Bellevue is surprisingly dry and most drives had a decent amount of roll, but the greens were pretty bumpy. Speed was fine if you didn't catch too many hops along the way. JP is the usual, mediocre conditions through the course with similarly average greens. Only surprise was #2, where they have a temp green as they attempt to regrow some grass there.

Played Harbour Pointe over the weekend. Course was an absolute dog track with the rain we've gotten lately. Haven't mowed the rough in some time and as a group we lost numerous balls plugging in the fairway or hitting it into the first cut. The fact that they are still charging full price with the condition of the course was a joke. I'd stay away for some time until the course dries out and they can actually get it in playable shape.

Played Druid's Glen on Sunday and Eagles Pride (Ft Lewis) yesterday.

Druid's Glen - What a turnaround from the start of the new superintendent. Last year was gonna be bad regardless since they were redoing the greens but now that a year has gone by, the greens are in great shape. A little slow but rolled very well.

Eagles Pride - Overall the course condition was in great shape as well. Greens were very similar to Druid's Glen rolling wise. Can't beat the price here.

Played Bellevue muni yesterday. Granted it was the first 80 degree day of the season, but the course was in great shape. It was my first time out there and I was very pleasantly surprised. Of all the Premier courses I've played it was head and shoulders above any other. We got around in ~4:45 but were on a 4:15 pace until the last 4 holes got backed up.

Played Homestead in Lynden the past 2 days and its drying out still, not horrible but needs a few more sunny days to completely dry out. Rain this weekend won't help. Played North Bellingham today mostly dry for the most part, but super windy compared to every where else. I shot 39 on the front and blew up on the back (46) because the wind picked up with the weather rain coming in for the weekend. Had to stop countless times per shot because of the wind. Both courses are in good condition. The greens are getting faster at homestead and I felt north Bellingham's greens differed from hole to hole.

McCormick Woods in Port Orchard is in excellent shape. With last week's dry spell it was fun round Sunday afternoon. Could have used a marshall- there were 4 groups on a couple different holes for a 5 hour round- or a drink cart, but at $75 with a cart was a great value. It's a shame that for those of us in Seattle, we have to get out to the peninsula any time we want to play a good public track. Nothing within an hours drive that is worth playing right now.

Played Redmond Ridge, Inglewood CC, Wa Natty, and Echo all in the last 3 weeks.

Conditions at all were fantastic, you can't beat the conditions this time of the year, grass is growing a ton and the heavy season isn't around yet with 5+ hour rounds and all the wear/tear that comes with the hackers.

Any one played chambers bay lately? Planning to play it over the holiday weekend coming up and curious to see how good or bad condition it is in?

I posted in another thread a few days ago, but will repeat it here. Played Chambers last weekend, and the course was in amazing shape. I didn't think the greens were that bad, but my expectations were low to begin with. Only had one putt noticeably move off line because of the putting surface, but speed between greens was inconsistent. The poa greens however were smooth and rolled very nice. They are easy to identify so you can putt more confidently on those. Course was very firm and playing like it was designed, A+ condition everywhere but the greens. Once they get all the greens switched over (I heard they are going to rip the rest of them up sometime soon), it should shut up all the naysayers.

Thanks Randy. I have a couple of friends flying into to play Chambers and we are planning on playing it twice. Do they have any temporary greens in use now? If you had to guess, how many of the 18 greens have been converted to Poa and how many are still problematic? Thanks for the info. Might consider playing Chambers once then taking them to Gold Mountain for the 2nd round.

No temp greens last week. I think 3 or 4 of the greens had been completely converted over, but don't remember exactly. Many of the other greens had large square patches of poa in them, though absent from those was #10, #11, and #12 if I remember correctly. I honestly wasn't paying too close of attention to the greens, because for the most part they weren't problematic and besides, the course is about the views and interesting approach shots, not putting.

Also, I think they intentionally left the practice green in bad shape to temper expectations before people tee off. Maybe it worked on me, but the greens were honestly not that bad. Obviously they were still disappointing for a course that costs $300 during peak times, but they weren't "automatic 2 putt" bad like some people seem to think here on WRX.

I would just play Chambers once. There are so many great courses to explore in the south sound area that its not worth it to replay Chambers.

Played Chambers today. Conditions were firm and fast. The putting green is being converted to poa and is closed, so putting was on the chipping green...that green is terrible. Greens were better. 7, 10, 13 greens that were converted look great. The 1st is probably the worst green on the course. Pace of play sucked...group of older men in front of us completely ran out of gas on the back 9. It looks like they’ve added another poa green down by the lower tees on 9 they could be a chipping green or something.

I also played Chambers yesterday in prep for the weekend Amateur. The course itself was in great shape.

The poa greens look great as the above has said but the rest of the greens are sooooo damn slow. Had to 3 putt my first 2 holes to get used to it.........

When did you tee off Jamie? I played at 3pm and I ended up seeing some groups just leave on the back 9 cuz they couldn't handle the walk.
