Have you hit the TM Rocket Bladez GI irons? I am looking for a reason to get back over to Ping. I have had a long stint of blades, backing up to Titleist 712 AP2's, and recently I had the Rocket Bladez basically land in my lap so I am playing them. I would love to know about distance control with the G25s. The rocket bladez tend to take off occasionally. I bounce between a +3 and a 3 depending on the season. I just don't see the purpose of blades anymore to be honest. Anything I am overlooking?
I have hit the Rocketbladez a decent amount. I think the G25's are way more forgiving on shots left and right on the face especially. I also prefer the G25 feel, sound, and turf interaction.

Can't thank you enough for this review, it will probably push me over the edge to buy the G25. Maybe this will turn into an epic thread like Jeff G15 for low hcp thread.

The last few years I have been playing forged player cbs and although I love them I need to be on my game and as a:10 hcp that is not always the case. I have G20 7 iron demo with CFS stiff I bought cheap and have hit it on the range against a number of forged I own and all I can say is WOW.

Over the last few days into a strong head wind the G20 went up against, MP 53& 32, Hogan Apex Edge Pro& Apex plus Taylormade R7 tp and the G20 was more consistent and just penetrated into a very strong wind, no balloning, no hooking or slice just powerfully forward. Can't say that about any of the others and they are all clubs I own and have played for years.

The G25 looks good to me and coming from a forged player snob that is a huge statement. Thanks for taking the time to give us your honest feedback, probably just cost me a new set.

Thanks for the kind words. If the 7 iron is the only one you have hit... I can't wait till you get a chance to hit the long irons. They launch long, high, and straight from any where.

Very interesting review. And I admit, I'm drawn to the G25's since they are a little more playerish than the G15's or G20's. I'm just not sure I feel the need to upgrade the G15's. I don't feel the G15's limit me from scoring better.
I've been trying out the G15's vs the 25's lately and numbers wise, there's very little between them. The reason I'd lean more to the 25's is I found them nicer off the turf. The slight heel relief doesn't look like much, but I found the 25's enter and exit the turf a little nicer then the 15's. The looks are also signifigantly nicer on the 25's and if I'm going to rock an iron set for a decent amount of time, the cost upgrade for something I prefer looking at is an important point to consider.

I'm not there yet, but the 25's are on the short list.

If you own and play the G15 and are happy with them the only reason to change would be if you have a pile of cash burning a hole in your pocket. :taunt:

For a 16-18 capper do you recommend the g25's ? Or is the g20 more in line with my game?

You've been playing 12 years and your a + 4.5 capper? And you're not playing much? Impressive.

The problem I had when testing these clubs is that I had to use too stiff of a shaft to get the flight down to a reasonable trajectory. I'm a 4 capper and like KBS Tour Stiff, or DGS300. Straight UP. To get the flight down I needed to get into X100 and that's not my thing.

They felt fine, went straight, and weren't too hard to look at - but in their own ad campaign they state that the G25 helps the player get the ball up off the ground. I don't need this.
They do launch high and that's the reason I said 95% of the golfing public would benefit. Obviously, a higher proportion of WRX'ers have issues with launching too high than the general golfing public. I would assume very players in the grand scheme will ever launch an iron too high. Tour players hit the ball into the stratosphere with their irons compared to normal players. I really enjoy the easy height that these irons provide, but I have always struggled to hit the ball super high with my irons. It would be cool if someone made an iron as easy to hit as the G25 that had a mid launch to accommodate you high ball hitters. One thing I would suggest you try if you wanted to give them another chance is the KBS Tour X... They feel super smooth but bring the launch down nicely over the KBS Stiff.
Im a big ping fan but I'm obsessed with my MP-64's right now. I've accidentally hit the KBS Tour X and while they certainly get the ball down a bit, they are too stiff. They require me to really go after it to load. They are playable but require too much from me to be my shaft of choice.

Great review though. Thank you!

I'm currently playing to a 15 HC after a series of shoulder issues (HC going up, but just starting to play regularly again). With my previous irons, I was hit or miss with the 4 iron. With the G25, the 4 iron has become my favorite iron in the bag. Ping did a great job with the G25's.

Curse you people and your mental warfare! I'm on the edge of a slippery g25 slope; currently playing the rocket bladez. I love the GI aspect of the iron but distance control is a problem. Hitting 9 iron around 150 with the occasional bomb that takes off over 160. Anyone have any info on the Pings and distance control/hot spots?

Thanks.

I had the same problem when I was playing the burner irons. I called them "fairway flyers", as sometimes a shot would just sail over my target by 10-20 yards. I changed shafts, grips, swingweights and everything I could think of to get it under control, but in the end I had to give up on them.

I went to PING G15s and had no problem controlling distance, just trajectory. As soon as the G20s were released, I demoed them and found the CFS shaft fit me much better and got the trajectory issue under control. Been playing the G20s since then, and I never see the "fairway flyer" anymore. I have been thinking of moving over to the G25s, but I don't have any problems with the G20s, so I just can't justify the change. Plus I don't know how the G25s will look after a season of use, as the Burners had a similar finish, and they looked bad after just a few rounds. My G20s are a into season two and still look great, and have my iron game in better shape than ever.

Thanks for the review. Kudos. I play G15s (6.7 index) and I'm thinking about switching to the G25s for the better turf interaction in the shorter irons. Looks like they're definitely worth checking out.

I will have an all G25 bag by the time it's over. That driver is a blunderbuss. You just can't miss. I have demo'd just about every new iron set out there and the only thing remotely close is the X-hot irons.

Sorry...it's an old style firearm with a flared barrel used by the military and later stagecoaches/postal workers. It was very powerful and they stuffed the barrel will all kinds of stuff so You really couldn't miss with it in combat or self defense situations. translates to Thunderpipe. 27 more holes today with the G25's... 20 greens... 64 on the first 18 and 32 for the extra 9. These are the real deal. Never lost a ball. G25 driver and 4 wood in the bag today as well. Best setup I have ever had.

Thanks IO-great stuff !!! I'm all over the G25...will purchase soon. I've been using DGS300 (stiff) iron shafts for years...which of the other shafts should I consider?...KBS, Project X, etc.?

many thanks !

Absolutely loving the KBS X. Really stable and still ultra smooth. I love DG but I'm KBS from here forward.

hmmm. I had i20s last season, and never got along with the cfs shaft in them. I too am afflicted with the high launch short iron disease, so never considered these. Perhaps G25 with cTaper??

IO, have you tried the XHotPro for comparison? That is what I am gaming at the moment, and honestly I think they are awesome, but I have played Ping off and on for almost 20 years.

Also, you are spot on with the G25 woods, the driver is point and shoot with ballspeed to boot.

Very thought provoking post, although the last thing I need is a new set of irons...

I hit these today with C-Tapers and was absolutely blown away. These are the best PING Irons I've hit in alot of years and I think most that hit them will see better results over what they're currently bagging.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

One of our shop attendants plays X Hot Pro and he hit my irons today. He said he would switch if not for the money. He pays to a 3. G25's are way bigger, but way more forgiving. Maybe not quite as long... but close.

Guess there is nothing wrong with the turf interaction on these is there?

So funny that the post directly below is about a mid cap wanting to play blades. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just kinda ironic

I caught two nine irons really fat today. Or was 20 feet short of the hole on the green and the other was also right in line with the hole 30 feet short in the front fringe. I think the turf interaction is really really good for a SGI.
