G25 Iron Review (Low Handicapper)

Since this tread is so big I'm sure the answer is already in here. But, I'm a little too lazy to look (ok maybe a lot lazy). The loft gaps on these clubs at the top end seem to be only 3 degrees. To those of you still using this club or those who have used it feel you get enough of a usable distance gap between say the 4,5, and 6 Irons?

Who am I to question ping, but I notice on my irons, especially from 5(24*) to 6(26*) I don't see much difference. That said I have an easier time hitting my 6 iron than my 5.

We're going on a Minimalist Adventure who knows were we'll end up:

"Full" 10-Club Bag currently looks like this:

Taylormade BRNR Mini Copper 13.5

Taylormade Sim Max 7w Mitsubishi Diamana F Limited 75S

Titleist 818H1 25* Fuji Atmos Black 9s

Callaway Mavrik Pro 7-PW Project X Rifle Tour Flighted 105 6.0

Vokey SM9 50.08F

Vokey SM9 56.10S

White Hot OG #1

Srixon Z Star/Chrome Soft X

I love the gapping on the G25's.

I also love the standard lengths of the set.  Since then, most G Series irons have increased 1/4" to 1/2" in length and for me, it makes it tough to get the right length without swing-weights getting too light.

The sole grind is also pretty cool - gives you the best of narrow and wide sole.

There is a lot to love about the G25's.

Currently play the G25’s and am also getting the itch to switch. I’ve hit the G425 7iron on the simulator side by side with my G25 7iron quite a bit the last couple of days. I have a low 90’s swing speed and hit the ball very high. For me, the 425 carries 10 yards longer, 200vs190, with similar max height and decent angle. Spin on the 425 is a little less, 6000vs6500, and it doesn’t feel as soft. The 425 is definitely more forgiving and is also very workable, as I could move it left and right and high and low with ease.

2* and 0.25in difference between the two irons. The G25 6i is actually close spec to the G425 7i.

They do look a very appealing GI option and if they give you the flight and feel you want fantastic, but the yardage comparisons are a non-starter really.

The G25s are up there with the S55s IMHO, as an all-time classic iron.

Completely agree with the G25 being an all time classic. I’ve probably bought 3 or 4 sets of irons over the last several years trying to upgrade and none has lasted more than 3 or 4 rounds before I concluded they were inferior. In fairness to the length and jacked lofts of most newer irons, my G25 was a 1/2” longer than the G425 tested and launch angles were for both clubs were in the low 21° range. I have contemplated a retro loft set, but feel it would definitely launch the ball to high.

Just picked up a like new set of G25 from an online outlet. I currently game a set of 718 CB/MB combos but want to experiment with some GI type irons.  Really interested to see how they perform especially since my miss is out of the toe. If these clubs can tighten up my distance dispersion I'll be pretty happy!

They are orange dot and also CFS stiff shafts. My gamers are 1 degree flat with PX 6.0 shafts. I assume these are going to feel very different.

I've always thought the G25's felt very good for a cast iron

VERY different.  CFS Stiff is a soft stiff, somewhere in the range of PX 5.0.  PX 6.0 is much stiffer and heavier.

I'm actually excited about that, I've always felt I was over shafted in the 6.0s. Also, my swing has changed since being fit 4 years ago and I think my tempo has slowed down. I'm curious how the CFS' will feel!

Great thread with a lot of info. I just picked up some G25s from my Dad's garage he isn't hitting anymore. He said "yeah, take em". Thanks Dad! I'm hoping they will be a great iron to get back into the game with. I need to get some new grips on them and clean them up a bit but they haven't been hit much. Currently have been hitting my older Mizuno MX-200s so looking forward to how they compare.

In the sweaty FL weather, what are some good grips to get on the G25s?

Have yet to have a round with them as snow is still flying, but have been to the range a few times.

Initial results are incredible how easy they are to hit and how forgiving they, especially high on the face and toe strikes. I don't like the PW(45) or 50 degree the set came with but the lofts work great that I can swap those out for my MP14 PW (50) and 9I(45).

I think I'll end up pulling the shafts as they feel very loosey goosey. Will likely replace them with S300s to keep them the same as my MP14s and then can swap out clubs as I see fit to make an unusual combo set.

Golf Pride Tour Wraps are as good as you can get in humid weather.  They are also inexpensive and incredibly durable.
