Ping Staff Players that have Switched to S-55

Per Ping's tour list on their website, the following players have put the S55 in their bag:

 

Angel Cabrera

Derek Ernst

Luke Guthrie

Scott Langley

Richard Lee

Hunter Mahan

 

I would guess that others may after the season ends and they complete their testing. Right in the middle of the "playoffs" would probably deter some.

He had input during the design of S55, but you never know what he wants to do.

The man wants high cog and low moi. I dont understand why this is seen as a negative for PING. If they design an iron and he immediately bags it, you can be sure that almost everyone else will go in a different direction, especially the public.

The only ones that care are the reps. that constantly like death and taxes insist every new set of S irons they will be in Bubbas bag and it never happens. He could design the set himself and he would still play the S59s..

I played these for a while. Harder to hit for me than any blade I have used. Very harsh feeling on off-center hits. I'm not a hacker either (3.5 index). I don't know how he hits them so well.

On another note I saw taylormade staffer Ryan Moore using the s55s at the Barclays a couple of weeks ago

Bubba needs to change up something as his consistency is horrible. Be done with the BiMatrix shaft already it's not doing him any favors. Ping fit him with different shafts that work better for him but he refuses to switch.

meh, he'll switch back to the s59's before the end of the year. He bagged the s56's for one event (chevron world challenge) before switching back to the 59's.

I'd hazard a guess that the fact that Bubba plays s59s has helped sell 10 sets of them. in the decade since they have been released.

Hmmm, do you know what shafts, by chance, they fit him into? I am assuming that it obviously was a feel thing that he didn't want to switch to a better performing shaft since the Bimatrix obviously has a far different feel than really any other driver shaft?

He just confirmed he has switched in an in-round interview on the golf channel during the Pro-Am. He hit something like a 250 yrd, cut 3 iron into a par 5. Says the irons are going further than his 59's.

[/quote]Pretty fair to say they will be longer, but probably not even Bubba can curve the S55 the way he bends the S59, which will probably work their way right back into the bag before long.....
