Well, we rescued him so may be a mix but my vet believes he is mostly Catahoula. We are more for rescuing dogs than really care if they are pure breed or not, I am sure he has a few others in him. He sure sucked us in.

My oldest and her b'friend just got a beagle, named Piper. She is a bundle of energy! She loves to come over to grandpas house and run the back yard for hours. Love it when she howls! Shes 4 or 5 months old now - was 4 pounds when they brought her home! She is allot of fun!

We have three rescues, so I understand that. I was just trying to figure out where all the spots on his head came from.

No worries, yeah, that is what attracted us to him. We love unique looking dog's and will always rescue a dog that needs a home. Our vet thinks it is mainly a Catahoula due to the markings, but I am pretty sure her mother "got around" :lock: Cannot wait to give her so much love!

Thanks everyone who has helped me throughout the circle of dog life, it has been so helpful!

Awesome looking dog! Glad you got another. Be sure you let us know what you name her.

I "hate" bringing home a dog without a name, lol. It drives me nuts because you want to call it something, but don't want anything too goofy to stick, lol. With our most recent dog, Callie (short for Callinectes), it took us a week to decide. Three winter's ago, we picked up a beagle off the side of the road (story earlier in thread), and I named her Minnie Pearl before we had driven more than 100 yds, lol.

I'm very happy for you! Enjoy!

Thanks CrabDaddy,

Yeah, we won't get her for two weeks, but we spend hours a day throwing out names. I do like to wait a bit to see his personality, that may sway the name, but yeah, what do you call it until then....very excited to say the least.

One of our dogs here in the pic. He's a lab mix. Ran out the front door when she was taking the trash out and got hit by a truck, both wheels. Suffered massive internal trauma and broken bones. Would have died from his injuries had my wife not taken him to an emergency vet surgical center nearby( I was not there at the time) . $7,000 later, he still walks with a limp but other than that he's healthy and still runs around chasing squirrels and playing tug-o-war with us. The point is, they become family, so pick one that you can provide for and take responsibility for. $7,000 to me was crazy, but it's her baby, and I'll spend any amount to not see tears in my wife's eyes.

I know it's too late for you, but it may help others reading this...

Buy pet insurance.

We got our boy Ronin last Feb at 3 mos old. After a couple months, he had surgery to take out an obstruction in his intestines. About month or so later, he went back under the knife to remove something they missed the 1st time (a stick that punctured his intestine) and resectioned that small part. Then in Oct he went BACK due to complications (adhesions and such) of those two previous surgeries in which they removed 65% of the small intestines.

He's had close to $20,000 in med bills. Insurance has covered it all except deductible, and, have even renewed his policy. :)

Insurance *CAN* help you make the choice of saving or losing him. That said, if anything else happens that requires him to be opened up again, he will be joining dogs that have come before.

He turned one in Nov, and right now, shows no signs of slowing down. :)

Great facebook account! Really enjoy the Christmas pictures, like the one of them sniffing the pile of tennis balls under the tree. It's almost like they are wondering if one of their wildest dreams has come true. Kudos to you!

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't read many so I'm sure this has been covered.

The pros.....great companions and my exercise buddy. I needed motivation to get more exercise. My lab does this for me. The cons.....they can get into your pocket. Two weeks ago I had a cyst removed off his eye led which cost $175. A week later, he ate something bad on our morning walk on the golf course. Running loose so my mistake. Anyway, ended up spending the week at the vet on IV's and other meds. Cost for the week $800. Five years ago he swallowed a fish hook costing $800 to have it scoped out of his throat. Many other smaller items in the $200 range so you get the picture. I love my dog though.

Anyone on here got a Doberman? I think that's what i'm getting

I used to show a Doberman in the conformation ring now & then, & have always loved them. I like the Working & Herding dogs. Big dogs usually, with high intelligence. For that reason, obedience training is a MUST. If they don't have it, they'll take over your house, your life & your neighborhood & won't be too popular among your friends. With proper training, they are great family dogs. I babysit a Dobie now for some friends & she is a total lush, sweetest dog ever. It's really important to get a Doberman from a very reputable breeder, unless you've found a great rescue. If you live in a large city you might check to see if there's a Doberman club nearby....they have rescues pretty often. Good luck!

Your Lab sounds adventurous...not funny. But I know quite a few folks who have Labs and they DO get themselves into trouble swallowing things they're not supposed to. Seems to be a habit of the breed...they'll eat anything! They're super great dogs though.

Gretch, adorable puppy. We just picked up a 6 week old Monday. He is so tiny and its been awhile since I had a puppy. Lot's of energy and into everything. Wants to chew everything. When he is out of the crate, we have to have full concentration and attention. Congrats...name?

Lost Yogi last month

Never had a funner dog.

Smart, New hundreds of words, and was a spark anywhere he was near.

He went fast, cancer, couple days before he pased , coaxed him out with a golf club, and we picked up balls. Forgot all his pain, hoping I'd hit that low 6 iron he lioved to chase.

So sorry for Yogi, They become so much of our family and our lives. The love they give far exceeds the pain of losing them. We lost ours about 8 months ago and it still hurts. We finally felt time time get a new pup last week. I forgot what puppies are like....lots of energy and chewing everything.

You will always remember Yogi, time will heal.

You are right 12, most of us on this post have gone through the pain of losing a family member, a dog. This is obviously a golf site, but this community in the "Dogs" post has been a great support system for me personally as I lost my little girl. It got me through a lot coming on here and not only talking about it, but getting reply's and knowing others have gone through it. Best to your family, you will always have Yogi in your heart, time does heal.

Please take care!

I forgot to ask if anyone saw the beautiful "Rumor" win the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last night. She was the German Shepherd who won the Herding Dog group. German Shepherds were my passion for many many years. I bred, trained & showed them in both conformation & obedience & they will always have a special place in my heart. I just wanted to say that "Rumor" was the total package....beauty, nobility, balance, grace, type & temperament. Her movement was perfection, attaining the elusive "suspension" when all four feet are off the ground for a split second when she's in what is known as the Shepherd's "flying trot". She was "on" for sure last night & totally made that judge put her up....there was just no way she was to be denied.

Rumor was awesome!

Gorgeous reddish Black and Tan, plush coat Shepherd.

Similar to Yogi in color, coat.

Did you hear the crowd chanting Rumor, Rumor?
