I have SM4 54.11 and 58.09 straight off the rack in black nickel and I love them! I also have a 588 Chrome in 50.08 which I love as well.

With 588 I just think it's missing that special something that the Vokeys have they just feel a bit nicer look a bit nicer, bit more control on chip shots etc.

So I think when my wedges are worn out it will most likely be SM5 time for me, they look great but they would have to be at the right price for me to get three in one hit!

My 58 is getting worn really quick as I use it a lot of the sand and the 54 is not too far behind so if they're out at the start of next season they could well be in the bag, liking the new finishes.

I prefer 1/2" long 2* upright and S400. I think all wedges should be stock with those specs.

Sheesh. My guess would be 90% or more of us on here have to make SOME adjustment to any OTR club. If you are properly fit for irons and/or wedges how many of us truly are standard lie, standard length, and S300? What about all the guys that play KBS or Project X? At some point a company has to pick an option and put it out on the shelves. The majority of golfers that go to Golf Galaxy to buy a new wedge don't pay attention to the specs anyway.

No offense to the Cleveland fans but these make the 588 forged wedges look like Kate Upton with clown makeup.
What does that even mean? If you mean they are hidden beauties then I agree but due to your "No offense" pretense I assume not. 588 FORGED wedges are great. Just wish they had more bounce options. The guys on tour get all their stuff hand ground but retail Clevelands only have 2 or 3. But I'd take a 588 Forged Raw Tour Grind over a Vokey anyday. Can't want to see them expand the RTX faces to more head designs, maybe like the CG17 in Japan last year.

was it stated that the wedge can be ordered with whatever shaft you want? I will buy three of these when they come out and let me tell you that 1 gram can make a difference. It does to me
Yes, however some people only buy wedges used, and all they find are stock shafts. The used wedge buyers are very discriminating, especially when the wedges are cast, not forged, so Titleist needs to do a better job of anticipating the needs of those who buy second hand.

I just saved you about 3 pages of reading. You're welcome. :D

Good looking wedges again by Vokey. Smart idea not making too many wholesale changes on the most successful wedge going right now. Getting rid of the Oil can version (which could come back a little later) will probably miff some folks to some extent. Not raising the price was another good idea. Will be interesting to see if any improvements were made to the grooves. Does anyone know what the F grind is all about. Personally, I will stick with my Mack Daddy 2 wedges.

I managed to get a look at the spec sheet for the new SM5's this morning. Three finishes. The raw black looks pretty good. Lofts from 46 to 62. Grinds: F, K, M and T I think. Not 100%

Can you define what each of the letters will equate to in the grind?

I really like the 588 Forged wedges as well and they feel better than my SM4's do. The look of the 588 Forged is fine too, although some don't like all the stuff on the back of the wedge.

What's the actual difference between S200 and S300? On TT's website the only difference is 1g of weight.
Just something for guys to whine about. How is it possible to whine about S200 being stock and then reference custom orders for Cleveland and Callaway that offer "wedge flex" as their stock? Titleist sells more Vokey wedges in probably 3 months than Callaway does all year. You can't please everyone I guess. They offer an incredible amount of stock wedges with awesome stock grinds that will fit 100% of players. Calaway is offering what 4 lofts with 8 total pieces?? I mean 4... compared to Vokey with 9 lofts and 21 different options not including 3 finishes... every loft and 2-3 bounce and grind options in most lofts and we're gonna complain about S200 being stock when you can get any other DG free if you're willing to wait 3 days to get one custom. S200 is offered "stock" because S300 is stock in the players irons and should an AP1 player using the stock XP shafts want to get a stock Vokey the shaft is gonna play just fine. I also don't understand the forged vs cast debate either... the guys on tour have no problem with cast Vokey wedges. Look at the bag pics every week and Vokey leads the field in play going away... by staffers or non staffers.

I just don't get it I guess.... like or dislike Titleist or Vokey but the product and options they put out to retail for $129 is insanely good... in my opinion of course.
I agree with what you say but I'm still baffled by why S200 specifically is chosen as their stock "wedge" shaft. I'm pretty sure it would suffice for the majority of golfers, but so would S300 or S400 (stock for Nike wedges). I consider Vokeys a "player's" wedge made to match up closely to their player's irons. That's why you see AP1 gap and sand wedge but none for AP2, MB, nor CB. It must've been a conscious decision because I can't fathom it being an economical decision. Most golfers want more heft in their wedges vs their irons not vice versa. So I'm just baffled at their decision. It appears to be a conscious decision so it got me a bit curious.

But, like someone pointed out we're talking about a whole 3 gram difference from s200 to s400. No biggie, but then again, True Temper found it to be a big enough difference to give us a choice.
Must be economics.

S200s considered over runs and available alot cheaper than S300s?

 • 2 weeks later...

Will be looking for some new wedges this spring. I like the idea of having more options for loft /bounce/grind combinations, was thinking SM4 M grinds 54/60 in oil can, will check out the SM5 in spring and if I can't find the combo I want I should be able to find the SM4 at a reduced cost.
As far as the S200 shafts, Vokey probably purchases at lower cost to improve profit while maintaining competitive market price point, as most common DG shaft to public is the S300 shafts. I happen to be a KBS guy but don't mind the DG 200 in the wedges.

Ditto. SM4 grooves were a huge leap over Vokey CC grooves. Are the sm5 supposed to spin more or are they the same?

Thanks for the updates, we still need to confirm if indeed the grooves have any mods. I'm getting closer and closer to finally taking the dive into the dreaded conformings, I still have a decent little stash of Vokey Studio TVD M-grinds and I refuse to make the move unless the tech has all but equalized the ruling...BB

You could do both. Or just put the S3 stock instead of the S2, which I still think would be the most logical choice.
I, like you, fit into X100's, and I, like you, almost never buy new. But even though I'm a forged blade guy, I can't get mad at retailers for stocking forged blades with S300's. Yes, that makes it a little more difficult to find used sets that fit me, but that's how the market works. Why would a retailer order X100 irons to sit on the shelf for 2 years when a person who needs X100's will just order custom lie/loft/length/grips anyway?

For wedges, I prefer S400's, Vokey or not. However, I understand that S200 feels best for most people, just like S300 is what people want in iron shafts. Again, THE RETAILER chooses what specs to order, and I understand they need to move product.

People who need custom clubs like you and me can't get mad when we can't find custom clubs on the shelf. That's literally the definition of custom.
