Today I downloaded the SkyGolf 360 app for my iPhone and it sucks. I can't imaging using the Touch to sync to the app when its released. Connecting to the website for syncing was DOG slow.
Sorry, but you seem to have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps it didn't connect to the website because you had no device to Sync.

I have the new Linx watch. I downloaded the current version of Skygolf 360. Never having paired my Linx with my ipad, I selected the Sync function. The Sync function found the Linx, automatically paired the Linx to the ipad, and performed the Sync, uploading my scores and statistics, then updating my courses. The entire operation took less than three minutes(!). I then went to my iphone and opened the app. The new scores and statistics were there, too.

The simplicity and performance of the Bluetooth function and app are simply incredible, compared to syncing on the SGX. This is a huge leap forward for SGX users.
I didn't mean connecting to a device but the Internet connection was slow to connect and download my scores. When the touch finally comes out I will check it out. I guess it will also connect via bluetooth.

Looks like the Touch will be next years' GPS device - just had direct contact with my contact at SkyGolf in the UK and was told that the re-engineering that had to be done means that the earliest I will get my evaluation model is mid-September. Might be different Stateside? Not sure.....

I got a call from the person at Skycaddie that I have been working with/complaining to and your information falls in line with what I heard for the most part. He said they are still going through the certification process and it is difficult to speed that up as it is "out of their hands". He said that they are still AT LEAST 6-8 weeks away from a tentative shipping date, which would put it close to the September release you heard. However, he still seemed very non-commital to it even being ready in 6-8 weeks. For the first time, without me talking about it or mentioning the possibility, he came right out and asked if I would like to cancel my preorder. At this point I am just going to wait it out. If i have waited this long whats another couple months!!

I wish Skycaddie would give up on creating hardware. If they packaged their maps for ios/android and paired it with something like this:

http://www.sportys.com/PilotShop/product/19598?utm_source=ipadblog&utm_medium=referral

They could have the accuracy of their unit without the a hassles of developing hardware and still charge a premium for their service. A smart phone would adapt better to their attempt at cloud based stat tracking. Plus we could be rid of the terrible OS they use.

Sorry, but I do not want my phone to do double duty. When I'm on vacation, I often play two rounds a day. A smartphone battery w/ GPS enabled is not going to last 8 to 10 hours. Now, perhaps purchasing a cheap used phone to host the app might work.

Could always get an old iPod touch as well. Either way, the OS they currently use is the slowest/buggiest OS out there. Not to mention the enormous amount of issues their hardware has.
The iPod would not work because it lacks GPS. Also smartphones only work when they have signal. At my club, over almost all of the course, there is no signal, making a smartphone golf GPS app worthless.

I also think it is crazy how people complain about hardware issues with Skycaddie and now that they found a hardware issue before the Touch was shipped that requires FCC re-certification, they complain about that delay.

The link I posted is a gps add on. I would recommend it even with a gps enabled phone as it's far more accurate. And yes , gps works without a cell signal. As long as the maps are preloaded you won't need to download. Similar to how Tom Tom works on the iphone without a cell signal, but google maps will not.

My point is why spend all the money on R&D when most people already own a product that's more powerful/user friendly than they can develop.

I love the information my SGX provides. Nothing else comes close. However I cringe every time I need to add courses or do an update.

Today I played a new course and to my surprise, their carts had USB connectors for charging mobile devices. What a great addition!!! No more worrying about being low on iPhone battery.

Well like many of you have mentioned the setbacks are already starting for this unit. When I pre-ordered I was told it would ship on 3/21. Since we are getting close to that date I decided to "live chat" with a representative today to confirm the ship date and sure enough it's already been pushed back to an "estimated" 4/15 ship date!!!! Since I live in Ohio I went ahead and sold my old skycaddie believing that a unit coming in late March wouldn't cost me many (or any) rounds without a GPS. Now that it's pushed back I'm without a unit. I know it's only 3 and 1/2 weeks later, but that is just an "estimate" could be longer. Needless to say I'm not happy. I'm not sure I would have preordered knowing this and I'm sure I wouldn't have sold my other gps device.

Just got a call from the pro shop at my country club and they stated the Skycaddie representative in our area just called them to see if I still want my pre-order from February of this year. Apparently they'll be shipping out within the next 2 weeks. I've moved on, but for those who haven't, there still yet might be hope.

Personally, I'm going to give them at least 4 to 6 months to work out the inevitable bugs. 'Mid-2015 sounds about right for a replacement for my SGXw.

Sadly, as many of us are aware, Skygolf's quality control is shoddy at best. Once you get a functional piece of hardware with a stable software release, it's generally smooth sailing. However, getting to that point is often fraught with frustration. Given that the Touch is a new piece of hardware with new software, I don't expect to see any difference.

Like Sheppy335, I never had a problem with my SGX and SGXw. I bought my SGX right after it was was released. I know their support sometimes could be better. But some of the issues are also the because of the lack of cooperation of the users. Some the problems can only be resolved by support being on their system and seeing what is happening but user does not want to allow it. They want it fixed but do not want to allow support to figure out the problem. Also I think some of the problems are the fault of the user but they are trying to blame Skygolf. I remember after the release of the SGX, there was one person that was blowing every complaint out of proportion. So it appeared there was a greater issue than there really was. Support is an easy target to blame but they are not always to blame.

I have to respectfully disagree. Totally. There's no reason on earth why support should have to remotely take control of a computer, and start doing crazy sht like disabling anti-virus, firewalls, etc. They should be able to walk one through a number of checks without reverting to the 'ol, "Reboot your PC". The problem starts with the piss poor design of the sync client. They should have never converted to a browser-based approch, as it brings into play a myriad of issues involving browser differences, cookies, Javascript support, plug-ins, etc. The standalone software worked OK for years.

Lol. I got an email from Skygolf last night with an offer for the Touch at $199.95 if I trade in my SGXw. 'Very tempting, but I really do know better than to be the first on my block with a new Skycaddy.

The email states that the Touch will ship out on November 1st.

I received a phone call yesterday from Skycaddie, offering me $50 for trade in on my SGX. I told them I would be interested, but not until I have had the Touch for at least a month, to be sure there are no bugs in it. They said that was ok. They will send me shipping labels. I paid for the Touch in February, for the discounted $ 249, so I would wind up paying $200 with the trade in. I was told the Touch is now in the warehouse, and being packaged for shipping, by the end of month. Looks like this is for real this time. The fact that they contacted me, seems to be a real positive sign. Don't know if anyone has seen the new display of the graphics for the Touch. It looks amazing. Hopefully feeling positive. We'll see !!!

So it takes 20 days to package for shipping?

Sounds like another deferral. (probably no big deal since you only just paid in February)

Good Luck.
