Got the offer for the SGX trade-in as well. If this is going to retail at $399.99, the $199.99 price seems like a no-brainer, right?

In theory, it's a no-brainer. However, nothing in life is free. Given the track record of Skygolf, you may wind up as a beta tester for their deficient software QA process. I've been through it one too many times, so I'm going to take a pass this time.

I was going to wait until it was in the stores but since they are offering $100 for my SGXw, I decided to order it. But I did purchase the extended warranty for $20, just in case. So far I have not had an issue with any of my Skycaddies, but at some point my luck has to run out. This way I am covered.

Based on ship dates, I guess they are going to get the original pre-orders out first and then the orders made through the trade in offer.

Ugh, I hate to be an early adopter with their products but this is a pretty solid deal for a GPS I'll keep for the next few years....maybe they can get the bugs worked out before our season starts up again next spring? Wishful thinking.

Given that it was delayed for a year due to supplier issues, hopefully they've spent some time testing the software. One can only hope. With a year lost without a new product, they really need to hit a home run with this one.

Other than the touch feature, what will this device do that my current SGXw doesn't?

It appears that it will have 35,000 courses pre-loaded, eliminating the need to sync. The SGXw is limited to 50 courses. Given that syncing issues are the #1 source of problems with Skycaddies, this is going to be huge. I imagine that syncing will only be needed to "refresh" the device with membership information, and upload scoring data.

Also, there will be Bluetooth support for syncing with a smartphone. No need to hook up to a computer, or attempt to use the limited, browser-required WiFi sync on the SGXw.

Syncing can be a major PITA with my SGXw. I've had to use their tech support twice because of syncing issues.

So, if I trade my SGXw in on the Touch it will cost me $199? Seems like a reasonable deal to me.

Pretty much a no brainer for me. I have had my SG5 for 3 years with no issues and it is time to upgrade so i don't have to sync all my courses.

I am thinking of doing the upgrade, by the time if ships to me my season will be over so i can wait for updates to roll in and fix it. I also have the watch so if it is wonky i will use that till updates fix the problem.

Obviously, there will still be some syncing required. I imagine that you'll have to sync at least once a year to update the membership information. Also, if one wants updated course maps, a sync would be required. However, I assume courses aren't updated that frequently.

The preorder page also says Nov. 1st. Plus it will be in the order of when the order was received. With the white glove service requiring manual setup, I wonder if they doing that now so they can ship out a large number at the beginning of November or they will not start that until they are ready to ship so they trickle out. Either way, I am checking track my order to see when they update shipping information.

Because the marketing folks have a very long history that makes you scratch your head because what they say does not make sense.

For those that were all up in arms about it being November 1st and there was no word about the Touch, below is the statement that Skygolf placed in the Touch support forum.

"We are pleased to announce that pre-orders for the new SkyCaddie TOUCH are now being filled in our warehouse in the order they were received. Due to the extraordinary demand for the SkyCaddie TOUCH, we may not able to provide delivery dates for specific orders at this time. Please allow for a few days for order fulfillment in addition to transit time. When your order has been processed and is on its way to you, you will receive tracking information for your shipment via email.

Thank your for your continued patience. We’re working hard to get your SkyCaddie to you as soon as possible!"

I was told on the phone by SkyGoof that exact same statement about shipping at the beginning of October. That they would start shipping by the middle of the month. Now it's November and they are still selling that same statement. I was stupid enough to pay for this thing in February. Supposed to be back orders filled first. Well I have to be one of the earliest orders placed and I still have not been notified of a shipment yet. They only give me that same exact statement as posted above. I've come to the point that I don't believe anything they say, anymore.

Not to pour salt on a wound, but I was on the Skygof forums today and a guy that ordered one on Oct 10th said he got a shipping notice and should receive it Friday.

You need to call and talk with them. Another person had ordered early this year and when they called, support verified the order and had one shipped that day.
