What is your regular max commute to go play golf?

Recommended Posts

I typically don't drive more than 30 minutes unless I hit some unexpected traffic. There are a lot of nice courses 45 minutes or so that I just can only occasionally justify driving too. The only courses about 15 minutes from me are way overpriced, so I don't mind driving another 10 min or so for better ddeals (I live in the heart of the city). What about you guys? Would you even consider playing courses 30 minutes or more away?

Like you, 30 minutes is typically my limit but I make exceptions for tournaments or when we occasionally play a new course with a decent reputation.

I'll drive about an hour, but I have a ton of options within 30 minutes, and a couple nice courses within 5 mins that get most of my rounds.

I'll drive up to 1.5 hrs for a round of golf on the weekend. The nearest course to me is about a 30 min drive w/o traffic, but I prefer to play nicer courses in the suburbs which are at least an hour away.

You guys are lucky. My closest course is 20 minutes travel on a good day, and 40 to 50 minutes on a bad day due to weekend traffic. I'll travel up to an hour each way to play a top end course, but otherwise it's roughly 30 to 40 minutes oneway.

Yeah, for the advantage of living in the city and having a short commute to work, the downside is extended trips to the suburbs for weekend golf. I average 5000 miles a year on my car, and 90+% of that is strickly trips to the burbs for golf April through November.

From home, about 2.5 miles or about 5 minutes.

From work, about 200 yards. I drive from the golf maintenance shop up the road to the Clubhouse. Takes longer then it should as the road is brick.

There is a golf course right cross the street that I play once in awhile, too. Commute is about 2 minutes if I get caught by traffic and can't get across the intersection.

I play a majority of my rounds at my home club which is 8 miles from my house (12-15 minute commute most days), and another course which is less than 2 miles from my office. The top 5 courses that I regular play are all within 12 miles of my house. There's some great golf 45mi North of me and about 35mi SW of me, but I only go out to one of those locations about once every 6 weeks or so.

Anything over an hour's drive away is a "golf trip" as far as I'm concerned, and I only get about one of those in a year.

I live in Los Angeles. Lots of crappy courses in the city. Lots of expensive courses just outside the city. Lots of great courses with decent prices 1.5hrs outside the city. So I try to play 3 times a month. Twice close on "ok" muni tracks and once far, somewhere that'll take a while. I often travel to Ventura, Riverside, Temecula, Corona, San Diego to play golf. Torrey Pines is 2hrs. Sterling Hills/Rustic/Olivas is like 75min+. If I play across town, I play early, so I am driving home in lunchtime traffic, not rush hour traffic.

I typically drive or ferry up to 1.5hrs to play some pretty nice courses. There are plenty of muni tracks within Seattle (less than 20 min commute) but the beauty of golf here in the NW is that a ferry ride across the Puget Sounds gets you into some really nice courses that are in pristine tournament condition with less golfers. I can typically finish a round w/ my foursome in 3 1/2 hrs or less if outside the city limits. I have yet to play a muni course in Seattle since fall of 2012.

My longest trip: we drove to Bandon earlier this year right after the Seahawks won the Superbowl in Feb. We left at 3am? It took close to 8 hrs hungover through those twisty Oregon highways.

My favorite course is 25 miles or about 30 minutes away from my house. It's all country roads, so a nice drive with no stoplights and little traffic.

In my group we drive up to 11/2 hrs. one way. Average drive time is 45 mins. We play the same courses every yr. but we like to mix it up and go somewhere different each week.We can cover a lot of courses within a 11/2 hrs. from home. We have a lot of courses within 15 mins of home too but we hardly ever play them. They are always crowded and the price of golf is higher.
Today we traveled 40 mins. to an almost empty course. It was $20 with cart but we chose to walk. We could have stayed close to home and paid $40 to $100 to play on a crowded course.

I travel 70 miles and it takes me a little more than one hour to get to 4 different courses. I make this trip about 60% of the time and I probably do it 40 times per year. I average 1 per week for about 8 months but thru the winter I might only go every other week depending on the weather. The courses I travel to are usually so much better condition that those in my area, so it is worth the drive. There is one nice course in my area called Black Mesa but it has been in terrible condition for the last year and a half. It can also play very tough with some unfair greens, so I am usually not up for it. I play another course which is about 40 minutes from my house but it is only in good condition for about 2-3 months which works pretty well in the mid-summer as it is 10-15 degrees cooler than my usual courses.

I max out at about an hour, unless it's a special course, or a special occasion. Most of the courses I normally play are between 20-40 minutes depending on traffic.
