Completely gutted - Slighter retiring

Just about to send him a new putter to build

That really really sucks. He custom built me a new putter last year and I think he’s done 4 restorations for me. Just a great craftsman and an even better person.

Too bad. Tom is really fun to work with and his quality is top notch. A Slighter tribute thread may be in order...

He really is the king of mods. I have a centre shaft squareback that he did.

Wow. Anyone know who can do a mallet flowneck or pipeneck Mod now? He did a nice X5 flowneck for me a while back.

Need to get some new sources and make a list for people.

Bummer, bad news for the guys who need putters or modifications. Tom is a great guy who is a straight shooter. His quality work will be hard to relpace.

I just got my putter back from him last week. He did some custom stamping on a Cameron for me...great job and fast turnaround .

The custom putter world will suffer this loss. Tom has some serious skills.

Wow. Just had him do an x5 flowneck mod for me less than a month ago. He did it and returned in less than a week, I’m going to post some pictures of it. Too bad, easily the best customer service I’ve ever experienced.

This must be very recent, glad I'll be one of the last to have my putter worked on by Tom. I wish him best of luck, but there is now a need in the market. Might be time to buy a welder and a bridgeport...

No, I believe he retired from the insurance biz a year or so ago as well. Sounds like full retirement to me, and well deserved.

Has anyone contacted him to find out why?

He built a Needle mallet that I've used for a decade, as well as a backup Needle and a handful of refurbs. A truly outstanding person and craftsman in every sense of the word whose ONLY concern was that each customer was completely satisfied with their putter.

Tom did a great job on my X5r, welded up the flow neck, added a sightline, refinished in his black finish, added a black shaft, SC grip etc. It was a wonderful experience dealing with Tom. Like other's have said his attention to detail is unmatched and his customer service is incredible. The back and forth emails from Tom are always fun to receive, not sure how he finds the time. I don't think the man sleeps. lol Wish i had a 1/4 of his energy, dealing with him has made me want to try harder at everything i do. Very hard guy to keep up with. The saying "Sleepless in seattle" apply's directly to Tom Slighter. Good luck in the new venture my friend.

As fate would have it, a very dear friend of mine wanted to incorporate Slighter Golf into their family business. Jason Smith is a longtime friend who owns a company called Questech Unlimited in Granite Falls, WA.

Questech Unlimited is a full service machine shop with a diverse product line and services. Many years ago, Jason and I worked together designing and manufacturing Slighter putters. Jason is not only a master machinist he is well versed in the golf industry. He is committed to customer service, which as you know, is the heart and soul of Slighter Golf. Jason and his son, Preston want to carry on the tradition of Slighter Golf at the highest level.

Preston will be an integral member of our team in this new venture. Preston is an accomplished golfer in his own right and will be right there with us developing, designing and refinishing all products of Slighter Golf.

I am excited to have the opportunity to continue working with Slighter Golf making every effort for this new venture to be a smooth and seamless transition for all of our customers. The new location at Questech Unlimited is a much larger facility and affords unparalleled opportunities for growth. This is the type of growth I have aspired for the last 18 years and could not have come at a more convenient time.
