Grips

Looking for some new grips. Enjoy the Crossline Full Cord but I think over practice/play along with the grips is causing some hand pain/soreness...making it difficult to grip hard (I normally grip hard).

Was fit for clubs last year and suggested Mid grips - but it felt kinda weird to me, so I have been doing standard +2 wraps. Miss is a wicked hook once in awhile. Wondering if a bit softer material and MidSized would be something to try. Also intrigued about using a spine / alignment aid in the grip and I tend to creep into an overly strong grip.

Thinking of trying Golf Price MCC4 Align, Mid or Pure DTX with an added spine (can DIY using Golfworks stuff)

thoughts?

I wouldn't really call either of those options "softer" compared to your current gamer. CP2 would be a good option for a bit bigger and softer (plus they have a reduced taper which helps with grip pressure a lot IMO), Dri-Tacs may not have the best reputation for durability if you're playing 2-3 times a week or in massive humidity but for a casual golfer they're one of the comfiest grips on the market, or most wrap grips have a bit more give to them.

Did you use the Lamkin cords for sweaty hands? Or do you like the firmness and the Cord is just giving your hands a beating but you really don’t need it?

I’m mentioning this because of my own experience - I play cords because I need to (although experimenting with leather now) because my hands sweat so much.

Also, I really hate a soft/squishy grip - this is really a preference thing. Most people love either firm or soft.

So ask yourself those questions and you basically narrow down what to try.

I found this out the hard way, by experimenting over the years. All the new tech/flashy grips caught my eye at one point and I’ve hated almost all of them or they simply don’t work for me. So I’m limited to Z Grip Cords, Lamkin Full Cords, TV cords, and like I said, experimenting now with leather too.

I prefer the firm / cord, but not so sure my hands/grip strength agree. No problem with sweaty hands or hands getting torn up with full cords. Chiro said I have tennis elbow (from golf)...thinking midsize may help and maybe a touch softer grips...Hoping the Pure DTX or Wrap will fit the bill, ordered some test grips.

You could try the Lamkin Utx. It's a bit softer than cords, but still has corded material in it.

I have had a lot of success after playing Golf Pride Tour Velvet Standard +3 wraps to now playing Golf Pride MCC +4 standard grips and built up with a total of 4 wraps of tape. Ultimately making it a midsize. No elbow, hand, wrist soreness like before. Great grips.

In that case you do have more options available to you. I’d suggest trying 3-4 that are pretty different (ie, CP2 is very soft, Pure has its own feel, Lamkin UTX mid is firmer but not as harsh as full cords), and grip up some clubs you hit often with them. You should find fairly soon which one you gravitate towards - then from there you can either go with the rest of the set with them, or at least you’ve narrowed it down and can continue testing ones similar to that.

the mcc+4 grips do not have the same feel as the regular to me. so if you like the full cord feel, i think you will be disappointed. It might be a little expensive but bestgrips leather grips are great for sweaty hands and soft too. Pure grips is also an excellent choice.

It only hurts once, except golf it hurts a lifetime
