Tiger woods putter

I know there is a lot of talk about his putter. But I find his specs kinda interesting. For example the grip is set closed and 35.25 seems a bit long. I am 6’2” and feel 35 is almost too long. Yes, I know it has obviously worked well and everyone is different. I just found it interesting. The loft also seems high.

Depends where your comfort zone is...I'm 6'3 and feel 35" is too short as I like to stand more up right. Likewise, I have a playing partner that is about my height and he plays a 33" putter and is super hunched over. But that's how he likes to putt.

agreed. Just thought it was interesting. So, would a closed putter grip make it so that your hands were in a sense set up weak? As to avoid a pulled put?

I took it as the opposite, I know Tiger likes to feel the head release or almost "hook" putts so I assumed it made his hands a bit strong, or if they were neutral the putter face would be a bit closed, to encourage that feel.

possibly. I was just thinking closed would mean if you were looking down the shaft 1 degree counter clock wise. I am probably wrong though.

Should actually sit 1* open (with grip set 1* strong relative to club face) with a neutral grip so he can really get the *releasing the club* feel without actually being closed.

correct. if the grip is square, the face would be 1* open.

Standard loft for many years and for many manufacturers was 4*. It's only recently with inserts and grooves that lofts on putters have gone down.

I’m with ya on the lighter weight putters. I putt so much better with 330-340 range than 350+. Pretty much eliminates all new putters for me if I wanted a new one

I'm 6" with and play a 33.5", it's all personal

With that being said, when I was fit the guy said back when Mr. Anser started making putters, the biggest complaint from players was short putters would go all the way inside a staff bag and it was annoying to fish them out, so he started making 35" putters that easily stuck out of the bag. Not sure if there is any truth to that story, but it seems semi-plausible.

Those suckers are super flexible, but i suppose with enough fidgeting you could get the thicker part that's more solid and measure it. Getting those on straight can be pretty tough.

I have thought about that as well. But remember, Tiger is sooo sensitive to the slightest of equipment changes that he can spidey sense the smallest of detail that you and I cannot....

What I'm saying is that you cannot possibly measure 1 degree closed on a flexible rubber Pingman. There are too many points of the grip that can move. You can guess and your guess can please Tiger, but it simply is not measurable to 1 degree.

The Scotty Cameron Custom Shop claims they use a laser to put grips on and measure them. And they still get lots of complaints of misaligned grips.

The best way to get a grip right is to do it yourself and adjust as needed using the M1 eyeball gauge while the grip tape is still wet.

Well the putter can be adjusted what so ever, probably way too much, in the end of the day its all down to how we feel on the green, not the numbers or adjustments. Like justin rose once said, after spending years trying to get a perfect putting stroke with perfect roll, he backed off and tried to rely more on his feel, that was when he startd winning.

But that’s why you can’t pay attention to what a player says. Justin Rose is a feel putter and I’m a flying monkey.

He uses a perfectly balanced putter , the aimpoint method , a line on his ball and ..... the claw. You cannot be a feel putter and use the claw grip. Lol. That’s the very point of the claw. To lock your yippy right hand out.
