Always amazed at how many times folks throw Fred Couples into these discussions. 15 wins and a great press agent doesn’t get you best player with only one major. It doesn’t even get you past Jim Furyk, let alone guys like Mangrum, Littler or Wadkins.

Thing is Freddie is often cited as one of the most, if not the most, naturally gifted golfers of all time. Again my point is not to get on his back about it, but how is it someone like Norman not touted as same amount of natural talent is considered a tragic fail when he has one more majors than couples

Perhaps, because unlike those you mention, Couples reached #1 in the world rankings?

I'd lean toward Davis Love III on this one. Love had chances to win lots of majors in the 1990s before Tiger Mania swept the land and just couldn't get it done. He could've won the Masters in '95, the U.S. Open in '96, etc. It just seems like he had a lot more chances than Fred Couples did down the stretch in major championships for much of his career.

 

Also, if Colin Montgomerie could've made par from the fairway at the 2006 U.S. Open, do we have him on this list? I think Monty is the best player to have never won a major ever, but if he did win one is the best to only have one?

Just a guess but I kind of feel like Adam would have found a second major if not for the anchoring ban. Even now I believe he's having one of the best putting years of his career but under the pressure of contention he still misses some really bad putts.
