Why one glove?

Recommended Posts

If the lead hand is providing power then it's pulling which requires that all the fingers be gripping the club. If the trail hand is providing power then it's pushing and doesn't need as much grip effort. In theory the trail hand could add speed with the fingers spread out - the lead hand couldn't.

The lead hand is therefore more likely to experience greater frictional loading. Thus if you want to minimise your use of gloves in order to 'maximise feel' the lead hand is the one you'd protect.

I don't wear two gloves normally because when I'm forced to (extreme winter weather) it feels awkward and damages my swing. Whether that's because of the second glove or just because I'm not used to it I don't know. I take my (one) glove off for chipping and putting because I appear to do better at both with no gloves on. Again I don't know why but I do know it acts as a mental signal that 'the short game has started' so that might be all it is.

I don't wear a glove. I play with golf pride z grips and just my hands. When i feel like my grips get slick. I put on new grips. You want to know the reasons I don't wear a glove? 1. I think wearing one glove looks stupid, wearing two even worse. 2. I got tired of putting it on and taking it offing. So I just stopped all together...

haha. I know kinda dumb reasons, but that is the honest truth.

Except when I get caught in the rain I hadn't worn a glove for the last 10 years. But this year after a round in the rain I bought a glove for my left hand. It seemed like I had a better grip on the club with the rain gloves so I thought I'd try one full time. After about a month I stopped wearing it. Just didn't like the feel with a glove on. So for me its back to no gloves.

Maybe because if you need three right hands the one you use does not provide much power?

I agree with OP. I dont wear gloves and have corded grips (insert Seinfeld man hands). Deep down it's logical to me to wear 2 or none but if everybody's doing one you get a pass and no one bats an eye.

I sweat like a pig and on hot days I couldn't hold on to a club to save my life before switching to cords. I needed two gloves but chose corded grips instead.

I wear two gloves. I am right handed and I often cut the fingers off that right hand glove.

I am in New Zealand where the sun is vicious and have had several skin cancers cut from the back of my hand. I now wear the glove as protection.

I wear the gloves when putting. When I used one glove I did not take that off for putting. I have found no difference between two or one glove except for the protection provided.

It did take a while however to realise why my right hand was sun damaged endnote the left.

You don't remove your one glove, why would those who wear two gloves need to remove them? When I play 2, they stay on the entire round including putting.
