I also don't see a way to unsubscribe from a participated thread. The settings control on the thread only allows one to "Mark as Read", which doesn't seem to work either. Some kind of Xdelivery method doesn't exist for the object which is object oriented code speak for broken.

What if you bookmarked the threads you want to be notified about, then removed notifications for all but bookmarked threads? I think if this was done, you could then remove a thread bookmark individually which would stop notifications for it alone while preserving notifications for your threads that are still bookmarked.

Under the old format, you could go back and delete your posts and that would remove you from the thread. Under the new format, there is absolutely no way to get out of a thread once you have posted in it. So if you post in one of those threads that goes on for 2000 pages you will continue to see those in your Posts Participated In section. Just a painful reminder and one that I wish they would fix.

As a result, I rarely post in any thread that I think will go on forever or just become a shouting match. Limits participation IMO.

Can someone post clarification? There seems to be multiple interpretations of subscribing to a thread.

Since I am the OP here..

When I post to a thread, it shows up in 'My Discussions' and, based on my settings, I get an immediate email notification. In the dozens of forums that I have participated in over many years, that is what 'being subscribed' is.

Is there another definition that is useful or applicable in WRX?

I'd like to be able to put a thread on "ignore" such that if someone went on and on and on about something, calling everyone who replied uninformed and illogical, I'd never have to even know the rabbit was still rabbiting on.

click on the notifications bell, then click the 3 lines in the top right (im on a desktop)- a list of notification preferences will come up
make sure "notify me when someone comments in a thread i comment in" is unchecked- I think its the second one from the bottom
You can then check to be notified when someone comments in threads you have bookmarked ( its the fourth one from the bottom of the list)
Then, use the bookmark feature as your own subscribe/unsubscribe button
Thats what I have done and it seems to be working- I hope thats what your asking and im not misinterpreting@DaveLeeNC @Gxgolfer @Socrates @ThinkingPlus @sui generis @b.helts
You can also uncheck the notifications for your own original posts/threads you have started if they get too long and bookmark the same way- i think (haven't tried that yet as i rarely start a thread)

You can always just go each day (or whenever you log on) to "posts participated in" by clicking links up at the top and choosing it in the submenu or by clicking "participated" on the right hand side on the main forum index.

On the mobile site, participated is at the bottom and also accessible by clicking the 3 white lines in the upper left

The participated keeps track of everything you have ever posted and I use it as an easy dashboard to start out with when i jump on the site to look at threads I've commented in before looking at new threads

I believe you're mistaken. "My Discussions" are threads/topics YOU STARTED, not ones you posted in.

"My Bookmarks" are those topics where you've clicked the little star in the upper right hand corner (it turns gold). Click it again and you've "unsubscribed" and it will no longer appear in "My Bookmarks".

"Participated" are threads you posted in. There is NO WAY I am aware of to "unsubscribe/ignore". One must simply use self control. ALL boards I've ever been on work this way for "Participated".

"Notifications" are handled differently. You can turn them on or off at will based on which threads/posts you want to be notified about when there's activity.

"Notifications" are different from the links on the top of every page.

Within your profile you can pick and choose (within the notification limits) what the board will notify you about. When triggered, the notification shows up in the form of either (or both) an email or the red number on the bell at the upper right increasing (or even just appearing)

In the OP you mentioned "Unsubscribe". b.helts mentioned "Participated". Is that NOT the link you're (primarily ?) referring to ?

LOL

Then why, after posting about your "backup" did you say "Just looking for individual thread notification control on participation" ? That's Bookmarks and Bookmarks is NOT a "backup" since no other method exists.

@nsxguy I said " individual thread notification control on participation driven notifications" because I was looking for " individual thread notification control on participation driven notifications". By thread 13 I knew that what I hoped to find didn't exist. So my current plan is to tolerate a bunch of emails that I prefer not to see. I have a backup plan if that doesn't work.
Did you have a point that I missed.

Ugh I'm in this email notification vortex after entering the TM Sim contest. I want email notifications for everything else, but I'd love to be able to "unsubscribe" from that particular one.

I'm guessing one of the 2 below are checked off for you to receive emails.

Uncheck both of them. If you use the bookmark function you can always click on "Bookmarks" at the top to see if any bookmarked topics of your have been updated.

And you have "Post Participated In" to view all of them.

So there's really no need to receive emails, especially for those 2,,,,,, which have links to find all that,,,,,,,,,,, or IS there ? Maybe I just don't understand the need for email notifications if one reads the board with any frequency.

In my case I 'need' emails because that is how I operate with maybe 4 or 5 other forums (catering to other avocations). Just out of (lack of) habit I will forget to bookmark a topic that is interesting to me. Within this forum there are certainly other ways to operate that would work - it is just the inconsistency with the specific other forums that I use that creates an inconvenience (which I could overcome with a small measure of diligence).

I am guessing that this interface is consistent with some other 'more modern' forum interfaces, but just not the ones I frequent.

I find it so annoying now too. I wish we had the ability to just unsubscribe after posting.

I definitely do post less now so I don't get replies from some threads.
