What are the best Mizuno irons ever?

It pains me to list the following, but in some ways it is therapeutic. I have owned and played all of the following Mizuno sets...

MX23

MX25

MX300

MP57

MP32

MP60

MP52

MP59

MP15

JPX900 HM/forged combo

And finally...

MP64

What a ho!!!

I'm playing the best golf of my life with MP64s. Best feel, ballflight, distance control, best everything. Fell for the "your not a tour pro and you need more forgiving irons" nonsense and tried to replace them with the 900s. It wasn't even close. 64s are special.

This list is amateur bro! Haha! My Mizuno obsession all started back with the MP 67's in 2-pw. Once I pured the first shot with the 2 iron into the new at the store I was hooked! It will make me barf to list all the Mizuno irons I've owned over the years but here goes.

MP 67

MP 57/67 combo

MP 60

MP 32

MP 59/69 combo

MP 64/69 combo

MP 54/4 combo

MP 25/5 combo

MP 69 ( my favorite so far)

MP 4 (just purchased along with MP 5 3-5)

MX 200

MX 300

JPX 825 pro

JPX 850 forged

JPX 900 forged

I know I'm missing some! I just got a set of MP 4s 3-pw to try and also a MP 5 3-5 iron. I have a feeling this will be the combo to dethrone the 69s! All the MX and JPX irons where very short lived. In most cases I had buyers lined up for them before I got them! Lol! I'm MP for life now.

I love the look of just about every Mizuno iron i picked up. I never gamed them cause they always felt to light to me. But my fav's are the mp-4 and JPX 900Tour.

I say MP 30 because I got an almost complete set at Goodwill for like $3 a club lol.

They were a "big" club head for a sort of cavity back "muscle" type of iron. If you want a crazy affordable set of forged irons that were once $1,100.00 MSRP, I would grab those in a heartbeat.

MP-4. Never had a chance to play 14s, I do wish Mizuno would "remake" them - such an iconic iron.

So I play MP-62s now. I'm looking for something a little flashier to combo with them for at least the 7-PW spots. This has a lot to do with the grooves being worn down on my scoring irons. The other part is I really want a sharp looking, buttery feeling blade with maximum playability.

What do you Mizzy experts recommend i combo my 62s with? Obviously, I am looking at mp blades (33,67,68,etc.)

Played MSX for 22 years until 2 years ago. Aaah! I know. Cast Mizzy's, Lord forbid,....but they are very nice and the groves are almost impossible to wear out.

They have 100 gram hardstepped X stiff DAIWA shafts from the daiwa tour department that I yanked out of some TRX heads when I was on staff with DAIWA in 93-94. Never cared for the DAIWA heads but the DAIWA graphite was the best in the world at the time. Put them in the Mizuno MSX's and played them until I decided they were just too stiff for me only a couple years ago. Packed away in the basement now. Literally, the ONLY set on planet earth of their kind.

32's for the win! I've owned two sets since they were released in (I think) 2005. Absolutely terrific irons in so many ways. Had them in the bag until about six weeks ago when I finally got the itch to move on and try something different.

MP4s all day long! The 7-pw are absolutely beautiful and feel amazing! Oh wait, so do the 3-6! Lol! I would not think the MP5s would blend well with the 62s. I think they would probably look bigger than your 62s. You also couldn't go wrong with the 67s, 68s, or 69s either. But imo the 4s take he cake in looks and feel.

  • 1 month later...

Having ran a cpl golf retail stores back in the 90's I was able to hit Zunos from the 80's through the 90's, sadly missing probably some of their newer best...But heres my rundown in no order of favorites:

MP33

MP37

Grads

Comp EZ's

MP53

and my current MP63's

Ended up mixing my 53's with my 63's for my current set

REALLY want to taste the MP69's, damn they are nice!

33's really did feel like melted butter BUT so do all the others, just the butters a smidge cooler...

Comp EZ's dont get enough love, really a well thought out set by Mizuno, played them the longest, so easy to hit that they are part of my best work on a course
