What are the best Mizuno irons ever?

Recommended Posts

I had previously posted here and I believe I had MP14, JPX900 Tour and MP32 in the top 3.

I still agree with that but in terms of current popularity amongst mid handicap to very good players (especially some up and coming juniors I see a lot of) many are going to multi-vendor fittings and ending up ordering JPX900 Forged. They are in more and more bags (including my own!). Mizuno knocked it out of the park with these irons and the way they appeal to a broad cross-section of golfers so....maybe they should be ranked right up there as one of the best Mizuno irons ever? I hear a lot about Srixon 745/765 but have actually yet to see anyone actually play them...

I am shocked at how many sets of 900 forged I have seen on the course this year. It seems that fitters love using Mizuno due to the ease of use of the fitting cart, custom options they can give clients with no additional charge and quick turn around time on orders. Most golf shops offer all the brands, but the guys who fit customers definitely have an influence. Most guys I speak with on course don't know a thing about golf equipment or care. They defer to the knowledge of the fitter and purchase the brand that is recommended.

The JPX 900 Forged are just that good. I can't believe how much of a difference they made in my game.

It is hard to argue that they are not the best fit for me of any Mizuno offering, so difficult to really pick anything else.

I've only played the MP30s and now I have the 900 Forged. While the 30s felt great when you struck them well, the forged absolutely blows them away in forgiveness, turf interaction and distance.

I'll keep the 30s in the closet, but I don't see anything replacing these 900 forged anytime soon.

I just bought my MP-30s in January, and am having them re-shafted with the XP115s today.

Perhaps I'll eventually be able to get the 900 forged, once they've been used for a few years.

I've owned a few sets of Mizzys through the years. I liked them all. This is my preference in order:

MP29

MPH4

MP32

TZoid Pro

CompEZ I would have liked these better if the long irons weren't so big

Some of the cool features on those Comp EZ's that made me dearly love them: #1 is easy, GRAINFLOW FORGED...Comp EZ's had progressive perimeter weighting with a slightly thicker topline BUT were able to keep the backside of the sole hidden from looking down @ address like a blade, which gave them a distinct clean not blockish look. For whatever reason that really bugged the crap outa me...looking down n seeing the fat backside sole of some irons that ruined the view of a clean topline. Funny too that a thicker topline didnt bother me at all. Anyway, remember the huge rise in popularity of clunky, fatter soled irons that just started becoming vogue at that time because they were so easy to hit? (Callaway anyone). Because of this less weight in the sole, they had a lowish trajectory. Now pair that with a huge solid sweet spot in a midsize(+) clubhead and you had the Comp E's. They were amazingly workable, knockdowns were autopilot. Probably the coolest benefit of those "big long irons" you mention, was the fact you could really wail on a shot and peg that huge sweet honeyspot and it felt like you were jettisoning a meteor with a down pillow. I say the only drawback was that huge PW, looks like you could use it as a shovel, but a small price to pay for all the tight shots I hit. Those low irons enabled me to hit some long, sweet shots to be forever remembered (I hope). Well hell, the whole set did that...Loved Em. Some friendly Zuno banter...tc

I've played my 32s so hard over the years that they've been reshafted twice, and re-gripped probably over a half dozen times. I do have JPX 800s - which are good.

Truthfully, the 32s are the best I've ever played. But I only use them during years when I'm playing a lot (sometimes life gets in the way of golf - and the 32s are not exactly forgiving ... they work when I can play a couple of times a week, and hit the range once).

Currently talking to Discount Dans about JPX 900 ... may be the perfect mix of feel and forgiveness.

I blame you guys ! So have bought / traded two sets of MP 33 in last 4 months.

Now, who would have guessed, one set are lite, one set are Heavy !, but no 9 iron.

So have shafted the heavy set with old Brunswick Rifle 5.5 and like them ! A LOT.

Was looking at threads on Ebay this morning.....

For 2018 i will look at a set of all ... MP33 MP 14 and 680 MB unlikely to get the set of Tommy's !!!

You may note my Avatar is old Hogan Apex Slazenger ! What a fine Looking Iron they are !!!!

Not that any one would COPY THEM !!!!

32s are probably the best playing ever. I think 57s are the nicest club made. I enjoyed the 53s for many years but have had surgeries and swing super slow now. I now play the JPX hot metal and they just go straight and far. This company has not let me down in 30 yrs
