Scotty Cameron 009 vs. Scratch 726 Putter

Excellent! What finish is on the 726?

 

I don't know where to begin but many of you know and have noticed that I'm a Japanese equipment junky as well as a Scotty Cameron 009 fanatic. This past summer Ari and I have started a project with the help of James Ingles to make a 009 that us WRXers would BUY and GAME. After explanations and debates back and forth of why the 009 is such a great putter MY journey began shipping my NEW Scotty Cameron 3x Oil Can 350 009 across the water.

 

In the next couple of weeks I will be updating this thread with pictures and thoughts of the final details my putter will get.

The putter will be called the 726 and will have a price tag that will attract a lot of buyers.

Approximate pricing $1100 for totally hand made with zero CNC work. Which is what I'm paying for the putter pictured. Any finish and any custom stamping.

I think this is a smart move by Scratch as they will probably get a ton of orders here. I will be interested to see how this turns out as Byron is the best at making the 009/DH style and he is much more affordable than a 009. Is Scratch going to be cheaper than Cameron and Byron?

its a nice copy of an 009 and to me, nothing wrong with copying it. Always good to have more choices in the marketplace of an in demand design. Would like to see finished pics and a price to see how it stacks up to Byron's DH89 and Lajosi's DD201

Ummm what? I don't know how I feel about this. DH89 is already an affordable 009 with hand stamps and plenty of finish options. This will eat into the DH89 market share more than it will the SC 009. I am 99.99% sure I won't be buying this.

Competition is a great thing. I'm sure this will affect Byron's market, but when you think about it Byron is legendary. He designs so many other putter shapes as well. Let's see what options scratch will offer to see what it will exactly affect. Also DH89's aren't affordable to most people especially how quick options add up.

The DH89 and 009 have a lot of subtle differences and many manufactures have tried this project. Knowing Ari and the work that scratch does with JI I wanted this to be as close as possible to the 009.

Well put!... but majority of us look down at the putter and can't really see those differences unless we know what to look for and are looking for them.

Could you remove the watermark on the pics. As far as being cheap, Knowing Scratch and what they have done it the past, I doubt it will be cheap. I bet it is closer to 1000 witch still keeps the Dh 89's safe.

Its one thing to take a generic (non trademarked) style of putter which has been in the public domain for decades, and make your version.

It is a totally different animal to take a trademarked piece and (obviously) make an exact copy for the sole purpose of under cutting the competition.

I'm thinking more along the lines of $500 or cheaper. I don't see them selling a ton when Byron owns the market for these style of putters (if they keep them at the same price range as Byron).

I'm all for more competition. Keeps prices in check (well except maybe for 009's).
Byron will be fine. Anyone as good as he is at their craft will be just fine no matter how much competition there is, and Byron is one of the best.
Love the DH89. And people looking for a Timeless should check out a Byron 612. Beautiful putters.
