one of my favorites:

'we are all victims of our best shots.' - greg norman

no joke, understanding this really helped my course management.

'nother one:
'you get bad breaks from good shots, you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball as it lies.' - bobby jones
Norman, IMHO, is one of the greatest players ever in the game. Not because of how he won but because of how he lost. With total class and dignity.

Regarding changing equipment or golf instructors all the time "The grass is not always greener on the other side, it is greener where you water it the most"

It takes thousands of well struck shots to gain confidence and just a few bad ones to lose it.

I shoot in the 70's, any warmer than that and I quit. - Bob Hope.

Golf is not a game of perfect, it is a game of recovery

A perfect drive is the hardest shot in golf to recover from

Jack knew he was going to beat you. You knew Jack was going to beat you. And Jack knew that you knew that he was going to beat you." ... Weiskopf
LMAO, Great find on the quote!

THIS is why Weiskopf never came close to realizing the potential that his athleticism, swing and game should have produced. Yes, he got a major, though he should've had 6-8 of em.

Tom Watson didn't know this. Ray Floyd didn't know this. Johnny Miller didn't know this.

And Lee sure the hell didn't know this, lol.

Seems like ole Tommy was the only one of his peers to "know" this.

Nah, besides following a legend at OSU, where the comparisons and "pressure" began, he never saw the player that everyone else saw.

It's damn near impossible when ya don't believe in the guy lookin back at you in the mirror.

A damn shame-

Great post!

"The ability to concentrate is good, though thinking about how you are doing, how you've done or worst of all, how to do it(swing thoughts), is disastrous. Visualize the swing, visualize the shot & trust your vision and your muscles. Keep it simple."

-Harvey Penick

Golf is the loneliest sport. You're completely alone with every conceivable opportunity to defeat yourself. Golf brings out your assets and liabilities as a person. This was kinda funny....I was playing a practice round when I was in college with a guy in camo pants and hat. our coach told us he wanted to try out for the golf team and since I was the team captain he put the guy with me and our number 2 and 3 players.

after he birdied the first 5 holes i called out coach and told him to sign the guy.

on number 7 he walked up to me and said "I've just been messing with you guys, my name is Boo Weekley."

my comment back "Who's that?"

I guess i found out who he was two years later when he was a PGA tour winner huh? I am glad he handled it with class as I didn't mean it out of disrespect to him

The grass is always greener...

My teacher had this quote on a rock on his desk.

His didn't have an author, though he said this this one and Bob Jones "5 inch" quote were, outside of Mr. Penick's quotes, his favorites.

I like this one and you can see it in play everytime you're on the course, by both those who have, and those who haven't-

Have a Great Season

Though this quote has been posted above, there is more to it than the literal interpretation of the words.

My former teacher(He passed), a protege of Mr. Penick's, explained to me that while it definitely did mean to take "dead aim" at your target, EVERY time that you attempted a shot, more importantly it was about taiking dead aim with your mind's eye, and "seeing" the swing and shot to come, and allowing your muscles to put the swing on the ball required to hit that shot-

These and the words above them would go along way to taking you where you want to go in the game-

Have a great season-
