Why is it so hard to resist the poser bag?
I am applying for my Poser License. The Nike stuff is so good to me this year that I drank the volt colored kool-aid and bought a Vapor staff bag while obtaining a Vapor Speed driver from the Oven (a gift), Vapor Flex 3w, Vapor Speed Hybrid, and set of VPC irons (that I'll hopefully receive today). I just got some Edel wedges but that's probably because the new Nike wedges aren't out yet (although I'm not getting rid of the Edel wedges because they are sweet and not stamped with big logos). I also own TW 15 shoes (which are uber comfortable) and I guess I'll play the Nike Black ball since they are on sale at a local golf store 2 for $60. Do I earn my license Poser Committee???
It all depends on how you play. If you're good you can get away with whatever. If you're not you'll get laughed at. By good I mean someone who shoots under 80 more often than not.

I've never broken 80. When I play regularly I shoot mid 80s. Two things, I wouldn't bet anyone would laugh at me (i'm 6'4" 275 and have been told I'm intimidating), and if they did have the balls to laugh, why would I care? I wear loud colors and enjoy life. I've never cared what people thought. Besides, I was asking the OP if I could get in the club. I haven't seen enough posts by you to matter. LOL!

Being a professional poser is all about matching playing the same manufacturer throughout the bag, and clothing where applicable. Welcome.

Huh? That doesn't make much sense. Like I said if you got the game it doesn't matter. Being the "poser" is the guy with the staff bag and looks like he has an endorsement deal only to duff it off the first tee, hit 40+ fat iron shots, cant chip, and spends 2 minutes lining up his 4th putt from 3 feet. People can play what they want though like you said. I can laugh if I want as well.

Lol ok my bad. Wasn't sure since the self proclaimed poser got mad for being laughed at for "posing".

Govols, first off, I don't get mad. I'm too old to get mad and have realized life is too short to waste time being mad. I see someone is posing as an adult since you couldn't understand my tongue in cheek response. I figured the "LOL" at the end of my post would help. Sorry if you misunderstood.

I know there is some tongue and cheek in this thread, just added a bit to it.

That said, I still think people should be allowed to "pose" if they want to. It doesn't bother me, and if they enjoy it I don't really see the harm. :-)
None at all. I prefer the poser that can laugh at themselves but I can also laugh at the serious poser which can be even more entertaining unless they're in the group right in front you.

I had a very mixed bag...
Cleveland and Callaway drivers
Adams 3 wood
TM irons
Callaway wedge
Callaway putter (Odyssey)
as you can see its becoming Callaway whats funny is prefer Titlest but they're never on sale mainly because their release cycle

It's honestly what works not whats cool this season or has the most gimmicks
When i see someone with a full matching set (most of the time TM or Titlest) i laugh under my breath i much prefer seeing a custom fit set and stamped wedges not a "i googled golf clubs and these came up first" set

Titleist is starting to take over my bag now.

915 driver
915 fairway
915 hybrid
I would like to get titleist irons and wedges, but TM is just paying me too much money right now. Luckily my contract is written loose enough to get away with the woods.

Because people do not want to confront the real issue of needing to get around 18 in a less shots by any means. They dilute the issue and fudge it by buying pretty sticks that they think gives others the impression they have got inane talent and therefor do not need GI or SGI. Most golfers do need help is my observation.

As a side note. Played yesterday with 3 pros. Two mini tour and one club pro. Each were in the middle of a heated gripe session on how each of their deals for clubs were up and each manufacturer was pressuring them to take all 14 clubs and swap out. Two TM and one Wilson staff. I listened for a while on how one said " I had to go online and literally pick every option for every club. It wouldbt let me just pick irons with " stiff " shafts etc. I had to pick what type etc. even the grip and number of wraps. ...., I couldn't take anymore after a while. I said " if you don't shut up I'm kicking all 3 of you in the nuts ". Holy crap what fun it would be to " have to " pick 14 new clubs . The Wilson guy even griped because he " had to " choose a new staff bag too. Wtf. The horror !

I understand playing to the limits of your game, but why beyond?

Posers want to "look good", how good does it look when you pull a blade 5 iron and hit a "squinnie killer"?

I guess you are "seen" by more people in the clubhouse/parking facility than on the actual course, so I guess there is that.

I have seen the ultimate though. We had our first golf outing for work several years back, the manager of the Wintel team shows up on the first tee, with a Titleist staff bag and all brand new top end Titleist clubs, figured he was a decent stick, watched him top a drive about 15 yds off the first tee, then hacked about everything he hit (we played behind them). To me that would be more embarrassing than anything.

You can't "buy" a swing....

I liken posers with blades to fish chasing shiny spoon lures. The effect really is one in the same. Light reflects nicely on the shelf as it does through the water and draws those silly fish in for the kill...

I'll drop in my poseur (poser) application, though I still think it's a silly term.

Anyway, not because of my clubs (since I do have 3 brands, sometimes 4 when I use my callaway 3-wood, in the bag), but because we're putting together some design choices for a new staff bag. Yeah, it's going to have my name, but also the logo of four companies on it that don't even manufacture equipment or balls. It also helps that this bag will be traveling frequently in a private jet.

Not that I'm a passenger in this jet, but the bag will still be traveling in a private jet. That's "big deal"-ish, isn't it? Not saying I'm a big deal, but that sounds like something someone would do when they're a big deal.

Hmm...other than the bag, I typically wear a titleist hat, under armour shirts, and those "cool 18" pants/shorts from Kohls. I'd be interested in Under Armour or Nike pants and shorts but I haven't been skinny enough for that since High School. This is a new experience for me having that door open. I guess I should go with the UA pants, black, especially in Florida when it's 400º. Toss in a big, white, UA Belt, and...wait, does UA make shoes because right now I'm wearing Eccos? Hmm...maybe I should sign with Nike for apparel. Then I could wear the hat, shirt, pants, belt, shoes, socks, glove, sunglasses, and underwear (when I wear them)!

Being a free agent sure is confusing.

just realized after reading this awesome thread for the first time, whoever is smart enough to pen themselves for an all PXG deal is guaranteed a very expensive contract!

oh, wait a minute, that's not how it works.....

Oh no, Parsons himself says that all of his staffers took less to play PXG. --rolls eyes and snickers--. Yea riiiiight.

I guess I am a complete poser then!!!!!...lol:

Callaway Staff Bag

Callaway Driver and FW

Callaway Irons (TA Protos)

Odyssey Putter

then I have:

Cleveland 588 RTX Wedges (46, 50, 54, 58...)

Adams Hybrid

And I always use a Callaway hat, belt and glove when I play...and I will shoot from even to 4 over on my rounds, like I said a "TOTAL POSER"....but I understand the point of having everything matching and not being able to play, BUT, like stated before I really pay not attention to what others are wearing, playing or saying...I was in an accident (blown up in Iraq) and since then I look at life a bit different, so in all honesty golf is a game and I treat it as such, I love it but I love family time more than anything else, you never know when your last day will be...keep pushing to be the best person you can be...

Next Parsons will tell us all about the new fairy dust injected polymer in the irons that self corrects any off shot and radar locks on the flag. Also Zach Johnson won't need a caddy because the PXG bag will be strapped the back of a unicorn that telepathically tells him the perfect club, which could be any of them because they are really just that good. His new PXG putter will have to be pulled from a boulder next to the green ala Excalibur and will shine a beacon to the heavens everytime he holes a putt. He will of course receive no money for playing these clubs, as payment will be their mystical abilities and of course the sheer, near orgasmic pleasure, of simply being in the presence of self appointed king of golf equipment, the legend...just ask him.... Bob Parsons. Hell, Zach might even appear with a full head of lush shoulder length hair out of sheer osmosis awesomeness of wearing the PXG hat, which is $85 and made from the loin cloth of the mighty Thor.
