I sometimes am amazed at how certain items on ebay sell. I have a wilson 8802 putter, The Wilson, original leather grip. It is the rare version I know and already got a bid at 49.99. Some other items seem to get little traction. LOL.. Maybe one day I will figure it out..

Easy to figure out; 1. Keep eyes open at thrift shop, kijiji, etc. 2. Find clubs that are outdated (but better than modern clubs), that the majority of people don't appreciate. 3. Pick them up for a steal of a price. 4. Enjoy, hoard, and never sell them :)

Sure Out, sure thing. A modern Hogan get out of jail wedge 60.06 for $5. Deal.

Here is an interesting pick up from today. If anyone has the backstory on these, it would be appreciated.

Maxfli blades 2 iron through PW. Matching Dunlop grips and Dunlop Maxlite shafts. I tell you that these are NOT going to be forgiving..lol

CC, I have a set of these and can't find which thread I posted about them in, as I was able to get some info on them.

From a forgiveness perspective, they're actually not that bad. That evenly distributed weight might not make them the longest irons, but their sweetspot isn't impossible to find either. Good to work the ball with as well. These were my gamers for a good part of the early season.

Apparently they're early 70's and a proshop model, and one of Maxfli's earliest iron offerings.

Mine came from a thrift too, and they are now my "gamers" at the lake.

Hey CC,

They cleaned up OK - you can see a pic of them in my WITB link. However, the chrome didn't seem especially thick, so the best I could do was clean up the faces and temporarily remove the browning.

I've tried a few different substances to clean heads and have used steel wool, scotchbrite pads, CLR, coke, and Mother's chrome wheel polish.

All have worked in various situations, and I use the steel wool only on the worst browning and rust. CLR works great on anything that tarnishes, especially on copper faced Colokrom clubs, and old brass putters. Same with coke. Have used toothbrushes, and brass brushes on the worst crud.

However, on a recommendation somewhere else on this forum, on chrome, the only thing I will now use other than very fine steel wool is Autosol polish. Slightly abrasive, with some solvents in the polish, it works great in returning luster, removing oxidation, and leaving a protective film. Worked great in reconditioning my ex-Hogan Apex Pros and my now Australian Blades. I use it with a "Bullet" (also Mother's?) drill-mounted polishing pad designed for chrome wheels to work it in, then do a buff off with dollar store microfiber cloths.
Those are definetly 72 to 74 vintage I remember my dad got a deal on several sets from the Dunlop rep and there is also a simular set called the Maxpower which looked alike to me at the time except they had green ferrules. I did hit the demo set some but kept my 71 Spalding Elite MV2 irons. I could have kept the Maxfli irons but the way I felt about my Elites was like the Taryington cigarette smoker at the time "I would rather fight than switch" Remember that? I have not seen any of those irons around since I wonder if they sold many in the USA?

CC, I like Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish available at most any Auto Parts store like Advance or AutoZone, and probably Wal Mart. Makes a brass sole plate shine like a mirror.

Sing out if there's anything on your list, Steve.

Trying to curb the habit after buying 3 sets of Hogan irons recently, (tho a couple more '60s hogan persimmons and an equalizer would be nice, famous last words...) but would be happy to DM you if I see anything promising show up near to home.

Oh yeah, I remember that slogan! Funny how all those cig ads and commercials just became ancient history. I do like the connotation implied by that phrase. Reminds me of, "I want MY MTV"!!!
