Nike Vapor Iron Series

My local store had the vapor display up and all the irons. No fitting cart but he let me hit the 7 iron. Nice pulling the plastic of the head and grip. I will admit I used to give a few of my buddies crap for playing nike, along will cally and tm, I'm just a miura guy. That being said, the 7 iron felt so good and was getting solid numbers, even with the s300 and stock lie. I am sure a set if these with c tapers will be in my bag very soon. I'm going to crap from my buddies but it will be worth it.

Nike is really starting to put out some quality stuff. Not a hug fan of the large nike swoosh but from address they look great. Nice job nike

I have never found anything they put out in the past that is anywhere near the level if quality as the vapors
Not trying to make it a debate but the previous blades and pro combos are/were TOP NOTCH! VR Pro will go down as classics for looks, feel(endo forged) and performance!

To add to this...there is an lengthy love fest thread in the equipment forum dedicated to the covert forged irons. I can't play them since they aren't offered in lefty, but I'm hoping the vpcs are comparable.

I'm a Nike homer, and am usually in the minority at the course I go to, but each year I see more and more swoosh in bags. They are improving every year.

Pro combos 4-aw! Not sure on shaft yet...I'm holding out hope that fitting carts begin arriving after the new year in prep for the rest of the vapor launch. But I'm not sure I can wait that long to order.

IF I get the woods, I will likely go Speed, but will give the pro a go. I didn't get along well with the ct 2.0, always lost it to the left (slice) but the cp 2.0 has given me the best driving I've ever experienced, so it's going to take a lot to make me switch. The oven trip guys mentioned the pro is much easier to turn over than the ct2.0, so I'm intrigued! I will certainly try to demo the flex, but I prefer a larger head.

Have you placed your order for the irons? I know dec 1 is the ship date.
You are going flex right?

Make sure to keep us posted if/when you see a lefty demo at your local shops!

The Volt with the black PVD looks amazing in person, my VPCs are the best looking irons I have ever seen, IMHO.

See http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1090685-the-oven-golfwrxs-nike-vapor-driver-experience-trip-recap-and-reviews-on-page-1/ about 3/4 way down the page is a pic of VPC before and after. Pure did an amazing job, wow. If I get VPCs, may have to give that a shot through Continental Golf.

I read that but that was the pro combo and I was wondering if the blades would be different. His modification looks awesome but will that area of the club still be durable? By that I mean could it rust now or get dinged easier? I'm not a metallurgist so I don't know if the pvd was a protective coating or just a cosmetic accent.

So from what I've been told by the customer service department at nike golf, and 2 different experts in metal plating and finishing, the metal underneath the pvd finish is raw 1025 carbon steel and will most likely rust and dent significantly once the pvd is removed. Sooooo, if the pvd is removed, then a protective coating, ie chrome or satin chrome, would have to be applied afterwards.

18 holes of golf walking caused the black to start wearing off from bag chatter.

I guess it's coming off either way.

Hard to believe they did not see this coming.

That's a huge bummer. I wonder if you can contact Nike and ask them about it. I have read that they predicted the pvd getting beat up to be a non issue. Maybe call and ask them. I've said it many times on here, nikes cs is top notch.

I tried a wet towel. That did not work. I looked at a close up of Scott Browns irons on tour in the WITB. If you zoom in on his 8 iron, it is heavily worn / marked on the PVD finish.

I may try something other than water.

OK, so, the bottom pic is of the final finish. I had a good talk with the Nike guys about what we saw with the review set and they immediately wanted to see the rest of the pictures, turns out this was a concern with the pre-production irons. There were about 30 sets, one of which THP got for review, essentially there was one coat of PVD on them as opposed to 6 or 7 on the production run of irons. They have taken the production run and really tested the finish extensively (bag shake test, its a dolly cut off at the top with a bag strapped on and a ton of irons, hooked to a motor and it shakes the heck out of it for HOURS to simulate YEARS of bag wear) and they stated they have no problem saying that it will hold up fine.

Cookie and I got the sets which were fit to us out on the course and we both kept eyeing this as we wee pulling clubs from the bag, I can already say I visibly can see the finish difference and there was NOT the wear like I saw with the early set. It will be a relief for some I know, and yet there are others who were hoping it would strip off easily. Its PVD so good luck with that, it would take some serious things to remove it.

I'll have more performance thoughts tonight, and I know Cookie is out playing with them right now so I'm sure he will chime in as well.

I am going to give customer service a call this morning.
