That is very much disappointing. To spend all the money on clubs and have them wear like that I feel is a let down. I felt the same way about my Nike Covert Driver. Drove the ball and next thing I know the RED was scraped right off. Love the colors believe me, but I rather have the matte black finish now.

The PVD issue is definitely concerning but hope not an epidemic. However, if I get a set eventually I'd like to have the PVD removed anyway, provided that doesn't somehow change the characteristics of the club performance.

I hit the VP and VPC PW yesterday afternoon, indoors and on a simulator so everything is taken with a grain of salt. For me, the VPC felt better and performed better, but the VP is really sweet at address. But, numbers don't lie and for this bogey golfer I may not have the game for the VPC, let alone the blades. I was pleased that dispersal for about 8 shots was all 5-10 yards. Initially the distance was 113-115 but as i warmed up toward the end the numbers were closer to 125 which is more than enough for me with a PW. If the dispersal readings are on point, that would be the better story. Feel very nice, but more importantly just look easy...that's half the battle!

This is a reverse psychology hypothetical, but do you think we want the retail version more if the release was done opposite. What if the protos color scheme was black with the volt, which would mean tour only, and the retail looked more classic with all chrome or satin chrome? Would we be screaming at nike to release the pvd and volt color scheme? Just a funny question I had in my head because I've always wanted what I can't have.

OK, so, the bottom pic is of the final finish. I had a good talk with the Nike guys about what we saw with the review set and they immediately wanted to see the rest of the pictures, turns out this was a concern with the pre-production irons. There were about 30 sets, one of which THP got for review, essentially there was one coat of PVD on them as opposed to 6 or 7 on the production run of irons. They have taken the production run and really tested the finish extensively (bag shake test, its a dolly cut off at the top with a bag strapped on and a ton of irons, hooked to a motor and it shakes the heck out of it for HOURS to simulate YEARS of bag wear) and they stated they have no problem saying that it will hold up fine.

Cookie and I got the sets which were fit to us out on the course and we both kept eyeing this as we wee pulling clubs from the bag, I can already say I visibly can see the finish difference and there was NOT the wear like I saw with the early set. It will be a relief for some I know, and yet there are others who were hoping it would strip off easily. Its PVD so good luck with that, it would take some serious things to remove it.

I'll have more performance thoughts tonight, and I know Cookie is out playing with them right now so I'm sure he will chime in as well.

I am going to give customer service a call this morning.

So the iron in the pic in post #142 was 1 of the 30 original sets that you had worn due to bag chatter?

Yes. I sent the pic to Nike and they indicated it was an early set prior to the changes they made in the PVD. I am not sure how many sets went out like that, but likely very few.

Based on my review of the hackers paradise review, their set was similar and they indicate 30 sets or so pre-production. I can only assume my set slipped through somehow.

What bag is that? I am with you on having to wait due to winter. Thankfully we have a couple indoor simulators. Not close to the same thing but can at least work on the swing all year round.

My bag is the performance cart II. Forget what model the wife's bag is. Nike though of course. Ya simulators are ok. We also have a golf dome which helps.

My first post on here, I'm sure that I'm asking a question that has been asked so I apologize. I currently play the covert 2.0 irons and got my handi cap down to a 5. I do not hit far as I have bad knees.. I would like a more consistent Iron and not lose distance. I'm really thinking the pro combos but I wanted to get your guys advice. Last year I switched my whole bag from TM to Nike and went from 12.6 to 5..just saying.... NIKE!!!!!!

I'm assuming you have the none forged covert. The VPC will have a thinner top line and the sole will be a lot slimmer. You shouldn't lose much in distance at all. The feel will be 100% better and being a 5 HCP you'll love them.

Can anyone give a brief comparison of the VPC to the Covert Forged?

I've played the Covert Forged for a season with excellent results but just don't care for the look at address. Just don't want to loose distance and accuracy.

This is just what I went thru. I played the CF all summer. The VPC has a more piercing flight, better feel, and for me, same distance. With the VPC you can shape shots easier, and I found that knockdown shots are easier as well.

It took me a little while to get used to the VPC irons, heavier shaft, but once I did, they are fantastic. The top lines are thinner, but not too thin and the turf interaction is much better.
