I apologize if this was mentioned further back but is there a big difference between the modus 120 s vs. the x? I'm so tempted to buy another set with these shafts and get rid of the dg pro's. I've never had an x in my shafts before.
[/quote]

No apologies necessary. One big difference is the weight. The xflex is around 120 grams and the stiff is around 113 grams. It's been awhile since I looked the numbers up but I am close.

Lots will say they play weak to flex. I am not sure I agree with this but my 6 iron swing speed is around 86 mph and the stiff is fine for me. Fuji has a higher swing speed and loves the xflex. I believe his 6 iron is around 190 yards where mine is 170 yards. But don't quote me on this.

I have noticed I can easily draw these shafts and other stiff flex will take a little more effort.

I would like to try the xflex to see if I can hit it straighter.

Would love to try both but as usual I have to order blind and hope for the best. My 6 iron is around 175 but my shot pattern is a draw. I never fade so I would be a little weary of a weak flex that I could possibly overcook to the left.

I'm afraid having a decent Swing speed has very little to do with it. Historically and nowadays there have been and are plenty of guys with 'decent swing speeds' who trap the ball and present a lower loft at impact than some other with similar Swing speeds. The presentation of loft is the key, sure, centres of gravity and spin rates can make a small difference, but essentially, the only way to raise or lower ball flights is to change the loft, either by means of changing the club in the bag, or a swing change to learn how to present a different loft at impact which changes that dynamic loft at impact. A 'squeezer' or 'trapper' tends to present lower loft and therefore hit the ball lower than a 'flipper' who presents more loft at impact, but our swing speeds have little to do with it. I play with plenty of older guys who's dynamic lofts are very high, hence they hit the ball exponentially high. And with many guys at the other end of the spectrum with higher Swing speeds who hit the ball relatively low, who obviously present lower loft at impact. We can all the mistake of what we think we're doing, for what we're actually doing in the golf swing, it's very easy to do. Guys like Monte Scheinblum often touches on these issues in his vids, and is fabulous at explaining this.

Height of the shot is a byproduct of spin, loft and clubhead speed is it not?

Just utilizing the flightscope trajectory optimizer,

125 mph ballspeed, 19.5 deg launch angle and 6000 rpm spin will result in 117.6 ft peak height with flight time of 6.7 s at 182.2 yd carry
130 mph ballspeed, 19.5 deg launch angle and 6000 rpm spin will result in 129.3ft peak height with flight time of 7s at 190.7 yd carry

As for spin rate,

if we increase the spin rate to 7000 rpm spin in both shots will result in 6.8 s at 120.4 ft peak height and 178 yd carry for 125 mph ballspeed and 131.8ft peak height with flight time of 7.1s at 185.8 yard carry for 130 mph ballspeed

5 mph is a pretty small difference in clubhead speed but it does impact peak height quite a bit. IMO

Conversely, if you take 2 golfers with a ball speed of 127mph (PGA Tour average) and LA's of 15*. One is spinning the ball @ 5000rpm, and one at 7000 rpm. Peak height with the lower spinning Golfer will be 93ft. The golfer who spins at 7000rpm, his peak height will be 100ft. A 7ft difference. Not that much in the grand plan of things. And both Peak heights would certainly be within the acceptable limits. To get that Peak height to unacceptable levels in terms of a good fit, the Golfer would have to be spinning a 6 iron somewhere in the region of 9000 rpm (112ft), which means he is presenting a hell of a lot of loft at impact, which in term would mean he would have a higher launch angle anyway. Hence, the 'flip'.

As I said, knowing your dynamic loft at impact is important to the argument, and the vast majority of Golfers who think they are 'trapping' the ball, yet hit their shots 'high' in their opinion, have a higher than average dynamic loft, and are closer to flipping than trapping. Particularly the ones that say they hit the ball incredibly high. Our perceptions can play some funny tricks on us all at times.

I understand what you're saying with dynamic loft being attributed to the hand action or the body angle at impact but i do trap the ball with irons and sweep with long sticks

I will be comparing my J15cb's with my newly acquired set of 716 cb's. I should have them next week.

I will be very open minded when comparing because I do want to play the best set. Immediately after the showdown, the Titleist will be for sale...... Wait. Lol

It would actually be easy. I have the woods. Although they are 913's. Thanks to you, I have the putter. And I have one 56* Vokey.

But, the J815 and J715 driver is better for me than the 913d3 I have. It would take alot to replace the Bridgestones. I know I am a little biased here but this has been my best year yet. I know it has a lot to do with the J15's.

As to our friend. He needs to come out of the closet and start another epic thread.

If you like the J15s, and you don't want to change, then why tempt fate? I'm sure they're both great clubs, but I doubt there's a huge difference between the two in terms of performance.

Picked up my adjusted J15' CB's today. Ball flights are so much better from 5 to PW. And distance gaps are just about as good as my ball striking allows. Wjhat I am surprised about is how 'long' they are. LA's and carry distances are below for me:

PW 32*, 140y
9 27* 151y
8 23* 163y
7 18* 172y
6 15.5* 180y
5 13* 190y
4 11* 192y

Unfortunately the 4 Iron is still a problem, so I've left that with my Pro for him to adjust another 1*, but I'm almost at the point of admitting that it could be extra hybrid time for me. Though I may have a go with the Titleist T-MB #4 because I've heard some stories of how it's a pretty high launch club for it's loft. We'll see, when my Pro has adjusted my CB #4 Iron though.
