Agree, great feeling putters and very underrated. I get it though as Odyssey is the king of inserts so their straight milled stuff usually flies under the radar. The finish is ok but a little bright in the sun so I was thinking about going more gunmetal or something cool. Not sure who people recommend nowadays to do that kind of work but I'll have to look around maybe continental golf.

Love Odyssey milled putters. Well....love all Odyssey putters! I have the # 2 and the # 7 half mallet. Also was walking past the used rack at GS this past winter and picked up a mint Black Series Tour Design #4 with the high toe for $36. Picked up a White Ice # 7 ( the other # 7) as well and threw on a SS Flatso Ultra and made everything for about a month. It's gone cold of late, so I see one of the milled going back in, probably the #4.
As Knudson81 said, the Chrome Soft off the ProType is one sweet feelin' combo!

Wow $36 is a steal for that. I think with this one I might start with the paint fill and take it from there. There's a few new ones coming out that I want to try but we can talk about that another time, perhaps next month

Thanks! As for the Nippon's make sure you get the right flex and right model. The 130's are higher launching but the 120's are low. For example the 120TX are lower launching then DGX100's for me.

They are Honestly I've slowly become a Nippon fan over the last 2 years. Always a DG player then tried Ctapers for a minute but quickly switched to Nippons after a fitting and have play some of the best rounds of my life. Broke my career best 3 times in the first 12 months after switching to them moving my all time low to 65 which i'm very proud of.


@Pure "745" maybe you should be playing Srixon 745's eh? I find them to be very similar in launch and spin to the DG Tour, if anything maybe slightly lower in spin but not enough to change anything. The difference for me was dispersion and consistency. It showed up that way in my fitting but it also translated BIG TIME to the golf course which doesn't always happen. Proof is in the pudding.

Fitting can be so much different than course experience. My benchmark test ground has been Bandon. It exposes an iron shaft. You have to have the half shot, three quarter shot, full....etc. it requires the shaft to be balanced and have a weight that can be felt - if not - you're done! I need to try the 120TX. The 130 spun too much and hit a wall for me into the wind.

Yes it was! Even the grip was in good shape. But that model came with the Odyssey/Winn style grip. Not a fan of those so I put on a White Hot Pro grip.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for that putter.

I put the White Ice #7 in "general population" with all the other putters this week. Seemed to have worked for the moment

I'd be interested in the quality as well. They look like the generic model available on Callaway's site. You can't really tell from the pics they have on the website.
From J's bag pic here, they look every bit as good as the OEM 815/816 covers. Besides, with all the care that goes into J13's bag, I highly doubt he'd skimp on the head covers

J, I also noticed you went with the generic sock style hybrid cover like the ones from X Hot. I thought I was the only one that liked these lol. Saves room at the top of the bag.

About the headcovers:

So I kinda grab the black and white Callaway ones in a pinch but I like them especially for the price. They aren't as thick as the stock headcovers but are softer to the touch. IMO the best stock headcover Callaway has made quality wise is the Mini Bertha. Not sure why but if you get a chance check out the leather and interior, the quality is really good. As for the knit hybrid covers I LOVE THEM. Jgolf your right they take up less space which is the exact reason i use them. They are unassuming and just hide in the bag which i love.

Also I have a VERY cool headcover about the jump on the bag for my 3 wood. Pics will follow.

Cool. The 816 dbd intrigues me and I'm not a Callaway guy. My g30 was the most consistent driver I ever had. I would like to know your take on the gbb and 816 dbd as I really am going to order one up...any shaft recommendation that cally offers? I am wondering which side of the face I will want the plug on...does that mean people are trying to hit it on one side of center....

Okay so DBD vs G30. I'm going to keep this short and sweet and let the picture do the talking. Both had the same shaft with the same CPM. Green Dots represent the G30, white dots represent the 816 DBD.


And yes I hit many more balls on many more holes but this sums it up. There's was one other DBD shot as I hit 4 balls a piece on each hole but it was right and out of the picture.

I like the on-course testing. You must have a good ping head too. Did you do any internal hotmelting with it because distance looks better than dbd, which I am sure track man would disagree probably right? Good stuff!

On course testing is the end all be all IMO. I do hit on LM's but only to get a general idea about a club. But to answer your question yes this isn't your "normal" G30 I have a 6g weight in the back and added about 8-10g's hotmelt toward the face and some toward the toe. Not kidding but I average around 1900-2000rpm with the G30/Agera setup. I just tested the M1 against it (M1 had Aldila rogue 70x) and was getting even lower spin loft for loft with my G30. It's a beast of a setup.

The 816 DBD looks really good to my eye and distance wise it's probably a little longer. Downside is it's not as forgiving on off center hits which it's not really designed to be and for me I think I realized that I need that. Playing the G30 and seeing how consistent my distance and ballspeed are made me realize I need more forgiveness in a driver and need to just skip over the small pro style heads. I also realized as long as the head starts off light around 190g or less I can build it to lower spin while maintaining higher MOI. For me it's really about hitting fairways while still getting as much distance as possible. Accuracy 1st, Distance 2nd. I do want to try a GBB as that would be a better match up and I hear that's a great head from the guys I know over at Callaway. Stay tuned

How'd you figure out where to put the hot melt? Mines a little light at 44.5" even with a heavier weight and obviously sound can be improved. Great driver though, have a 125 50tx in mine and see the same spin numbers and 1.5 smash regularly.

Swiz- based on my flight I could figure out where to add it. Once u inject it it's part guess part feeling where the melt is based on heat.

How did the XR stack up against the G30? Obviously, G30 is in the bag but curious on the comparison and what pros/cons that kicked out the XR?

Nice bag and cool testing! I love to see real life, on course testing because I deal with numbers all day at work and it's nice to get a break from that!

Seriously though, I have noticed a TON of G30's creeping into bags at my club. Even the die hard Titleist or Callaway guys have started using them. I had one for a short time but kept fighting the lefts with it. Perhaps I need to try your hotmelt procedure. Did you drill your own hole? If so, where?

I've also not tried the Srixons yet, though I know I should!
