Played my first round on Friday with this new weapon and it didn't go well.

I used it on every tee aside from par 3's and it was all over the place for me. I narrowed it down to a few things, one being at 43.5" its just too long for me and two the shaft needed to be tipped more because of the extra headweight. Length wise I typically play my 3 wood at 42.5-42.75 and wasn't comfortable over the ball. Now remember i left the club long so if needed i could tip it more but regardless it was all over the grid. As for the shaft I could tell it needed to be tipped more with the added weight to the head. ONce i slowed my swing down i started getting it under control which is always a tell tale sign that a shaft is either not the correct flex or needs more tipping.

Second round - Today, money game

So I dissembled it last night and tipped it another 1/2" for a total tipping of 1.50" and also took 1/4" off the butt. Also added another 4g of hotmelt so now the club is
D3 @ 42.75" tipped 1.50"

WIth that said it was a MILLION times better. Shaft was loading and unloading correctly and I had much more control over my shot. Distance wise the club is long, maybe too long for what my needs are. We got a ton of rain this week so the course was playing very soft and I had some shots into greens 250+yds and this club is no good off the deck unles you have a perfect lie. I tried off an average lie and it was a line drive that could not be controlled. I know the club's not designed for that but figured i'd give it a shot. It really made me miss having a hittable 3 wood from the deck when you want to go for that long 2nd shot into a par 5.

So i'm on the fence, i really am. Going to play a few more rounds and see if this will end up in my bag or the BST :) I like the added forgiveness off the tee but there's a cost.

Quick update:

Another round and practice session in and it was vastly different from my last round. The mini 1.5 was excellent off the tee and for kicks i took a g30 14.5 out with me to compare forgiveness, length, yada yada. Anyway on mishits the mini was getting me another 12-15yds which is HUGE. I also looked over my last few rounds and only would have hit my 3 wood off the deck 1 time. WHen i compare that to the fact that I use 3 wood off the tee 4-6 times a round my answer is pretty clear. Luckily my XR 17* is a canon off the deck so i think it will be a good combination. A few more rounds to make sure but a pleasant turn around of events for me.

Played yesterday despite not feeling well and the Mini did a great job again. Right now I have it set on +2 (D) setting with the Xphlexxx Agera tipped 1.5" at 42.75. I love the high launch with very little spin (around 2800 last time on LM) and the control and added forgiveness is very much appreciated.

So the tradeoff is playability from the deck but off the tee on mishits I get another 10-15yds compared to a normal 3 wood. For me it's well worth it and with my Cally XR 4 wood I don't really need anything more from the deck. I can fly that club 240-250 which is plenty for most par 5's in 2.

Yeah I am as well. I had the SLDR Mini for a while and really loved it but in a moment of insanity I sold it. In any case this BB Mini 1.5 is much better especially with adjustability. If anyone is on the fence I would suggest you take a look at your last 3-5 rounds and compare how many times you used it off the tee vs deck. I don't think in any way it's a driver replacement unless your really hitting the big stick poorly. I found a NOTICEABLE difference in forgiveness compared to a traditional 3 wood off the tee.

I am very similar to you in many ways I feel like. I just did the same thing but went with the OG RBZ TS. Got a tour issue head @12.8 and 1 open. I'm playing it at 43" and D3. I don't tee up anything except a driver. I do the little Laura Davies grass tee for fairway woods off the tee. I kept contemplating going the mini route because I too rarely hit a 3 wood off the deck into a par 5. I tend to have a 240-250 shot on par 5s much more often than the 260+. I'm hitting a tour issue 18 RBZ for a five wood and it's great and fills that 240-250 gap for me. I do find the tour spoon to be plenty easy enough to hit off the ground but I don't struggle with that because I never actually tee up a fairway wood.

I literally have one round in with the tour spoon and five wood and it was yesterday. The spoon is long. Like 270+. I hit it like 6 times yesterday on the course and liked it a lot. Hit one around 310 with it but it was down hill and wind. The five wood I think I need a different shaft in but as long as I made a good swing it didn't go too high and like I said is probably around 245 average for me. I think I might actually try the same 17 XR as you as well. That way the OG RBZ is my only non Callaway club.

The BB Mini is long and forgiving much more so then the RBZ so you might like that a lot but i would recommend teeing it up. The XR has been phenomenal but again i had to add some weight to it to get it to play right.

Any updates? Whats the current set up??
[/quote]

Setup has remained intact with the Mini and XR 4 wood. My WITB thread and signature at the bottom is up to date (for once lol :) ) I'm still dialing in loft for the Mini I keep going back and forth between 13* and 14*. I have it the Mini off the deck a few times and I can make it work if I go for the high cut which looks more like a mid flighted cut. I can live with that for how little i need it.

Small update:

Big Bertha MIni 1.5 is on it's way to a new home, at least the head is. I really liked it but it created a large gap in my bag around the 210yd mark and it was costing me strokes. I've also been hitting my driver so well that I haven't used the Mini much so I'd rather see it go to someone who will let it stretch it's legs.. in any case I think i'm giong to dump the Mini and XR 4 wood and grab an XR 3 or 915F then add another hybrid. One thought is to add back my Adams 9031 hybrids. Hmmmmm. :)

Is that 888 re-purposed from a former fairway wood (er, patient) or is this a new one? I can't remember if you've played the 888 before or not.

So after many months of hitting them at random shops and also at an outdoor range i have finally decided to pull the trigger and grab a set of Srixon 745's. Testing on course is in progress and today i played with a hodge podge of irons but shot a -2 (70). Anyway updates to follow. Some other things changing in the bag so stay tuned.

It has begun. Just waiting for some supplies on order then i will build them. Already pulled the current Modus 130's out of them and going to drop my Modus tour 120TX's in them. The 130's just went sky high and turned into a pull almost every shot. Meanwhile my 120's are mid flight and spin a bit more for control. I'm really excited to get these built as so far they are better in every way over my TM Tour preferred.

Yes they are and yes I am :pimp: The VT sole grind is actually making a difference in shots that I would normally leave 5-8yds short because I caught them a hair fat. Very interesting the way they interact with the turf. What I really have to test is how they perform in long rough.

Played and practiced a few rounds and so far the 745's haven't buttered the biscuit. I seem to hit them left which is odd for me. Feel like the club is turning over at impact which again is odd. WIth that said I'm going to play this week and if i still can't get them to behave the TM's are back in the bag as i have some big tourneys coming up with a lot on the line.
