J13, can you please support. What Brand / Type of hotmelt can you recommend? I need to order something in Europe / UK / Germany.

Do you have a preferred Hotmelt Equipment?

Thanks.

I got mine directly from a tour source. The gun itself that I use and most tour vans is the Champ 3 gun. There's a newer version of it but most still use the Champ 3 because it's a work horse and just awesome.

Update: :busted_cop: :busted_cop: :busted_cop:

Irons testing continues, so far I've hit (on course) Some irons i get a whole set to try, some just a single iron. Regardless I get to try them outside on a course which is great.

Mizuno 919T

Mizuno MP18 MMC

TM 790

Srixon 785

Ping I-Blade

The latest to be tested is the new Taylormade 760 that i thought looked pretty bad in pics. First, i was pleasantly surprised when i saw them in person. The cavity looked plastic to me online but it's not the case and actually looks solid in person.

Here are some pics from testing, my readers digest review is coming later today or tomorrow. In the pic of 4 irons at address

760 looks alot more compact than I thought it would.

Reminds me alot of a slimmed down SLDR iron. Be interested to see how it performs for you.

They are much more compact than I thought they'd be. They are shorter heel to toe than Mizuno 919T's but have a slightly thicker topline.

How was distance and forgiveness? Ive heard from a few that they saw more spin from them so less distance maybe a 1/2 club. Ive also seen reviews of just short of P790 distance but at more traditional lofts. Maybe its shaft dependent

Okay here's my

Readers Digest Review :busted_cop: :busted_cop:

Taylormade 760's

I think TM did a great job with these but took a step back in the looks department (cavity). Taylormade did such a great job designing the 730 & 750's I don't get the move here but all in all it's not a deal breaker. At address they're compact and have a short profile from heel to toe, shorter in fact than the Mizuno 919T's but with a slightly thicker topline. So anyway here's the quick breakdown against irons i've testing:

Srixon 745 vs TM 760

Look at address : Both a tie for me

Feel : 760's feel good but not as soft as endo forged 745's.

Topline - similar width

Distance - About the same in both

spin - I see no difference

Sole - 760 have thinner sole

Offset - 745's have less offset

Toe - Both have smaller more squared off toe sections which i like

Blade length - 760 is shorter

Forgiveness - 760's by a little. Mishits are really good and don't lose much distance.

TM 790 vs TM 760

Look at address : 760's

Feel : 760's by a mile

Topline - 760 is a little thinner

Distance - 790 is about 5yds longer on average

spin - 760's spin a little more

Sole - 760 is thinner

Offset - 760's have a little less

Toe - 760 overall smaller profile

Blade length - 760

Forgiveness - 790's. Speed loss on off center is almost non existent

Mizuno 919T vs TM 760

Look at address : I give the edge to 760 because it's shorter heel to toe

Feel : 919T's are butter

Topline - 919T's thinner topline

Distance - 760's are longer by about 7-8yds for me

spin - 919T's spin a little more

Sole - Similar

Offset- Very simliar

Toe - Close on this one

Blade length - 760 is shorter

Forgiveness - 760's, speed foam is real.

Mizuno MP18 MMC vs TM 760

Look at address : Hard to say, like both

Feel : MMC's feel good and get the edge here

Topline - 760's look like they have a slightly thinner topline

Distance - 760's 4-5yds longer

spin - I see no difference

Sole - 760 might be slightly thinner hard to say without measuring (and im' not measuring :-) )

Toe - both have similar shapes in the toe section

Blade length - 760 is shorter.

Forgiveness - 760 by a little smidge. MMC and 745's are identical.

Overall my Srixon 745's have the least amount of offset out of any irons tested and it's noticeably less. I'm not saying the other irons have a lot of offset (because they don't) I'm just pointing out that Srixon got it right with the 745's. In any case the TM 760's are nice and will be further tested for a chance at the top spot. Keep in mind I did the testing with a 7 iron and not the entire set. With that said I feel fortunate that i get to take the irons on course and actually play with them so that's worth it's weight in gold compared to hitting shots into a net or even on a range. On course is EVERYTHING to me.

So final score (1 out of 10)

I give the TM 760's ------ 8.1 great profile at address could be higher once i see entire set.

Mizuno 919T -------------- 8.3 - butter, but long irons not friendly for a hack like me.

Srixon 745 ----------------- 12 :taunt: I'm bias i know, breakups are hard.

Mizuno mp 18 MMC ----- 8.3 - long irons are mp fli hi, great. Feel great

Taylormade 790 ---------- 7.1 - Easy to hit, feel is too firm, short irons inconsistent, long irons are amazing

Excellent review thank you!! I really like seeing only 5 yards less than P790 considering they are lofted 2.5 degrees less in the 7 iron and 4-5 yards longer than the MP 18 MMC which are stronger by 1 degree. I also like hearing the 760's beat out everything in forgiveness with the exception of the 790's which makes sense its really a different category.

760 top line would be hard to look at after the honeymoon period. TM's iron release track record has me staying at arm's length.. WAYYYYYYYY too many models released too close together.

Excellent review of them and the comparison photos.

Hope they work out for you if you do end up doing a full set comparison with your 745s. They are so much smaller thank I thought. Pleasantly surprised.

I haven't sorry. I've hit the 730's and 750's, i think IMO the 760's are better than both for a guy like me. I'm at a stage where i want my cake and eat it too. Players profile with forgiveness around the face.

If someone wants a really thin top line than i agree. I don't mind a medium sized top line (talking players irons top line sizes). TM is all over the place right now, no doubt. Heard some weird stuff about the woods lineup but who knows whats true.

Thanks and i don't see the big distance jump with the 790's like others do. My 745's are pretty long (strong lofts) which i like because I need help keeping the ball down. In the end you can always adjusts lofts based on your needs.

J13 thanks so much -

I think the 760/790 argument comes down to the gapping. The 790 long irons are easier to hit. The 760s don't have the fliers and the gaps between clubs. Both spin a good amount and feel good. It's hard to gap the sets.

I don't think there is an easier 4-6 iron to hit on the market than the 790. Ultimately it's the other clubs that make the decision for you.

My pleasure and I agree. I think you could blend sets by tweaking lofts but I don't think the speed foam is in the short irons for that purpose. 790 long irons are stupid good in fact I just got a new toy that i'll have to snap a few pics of this week and post :D

Never was able to successfully make a combo set I was comfortable with. Especially with these hot faced irons; there's something to be said for predictability through the entire set. I'm just about ready to drop a blank check for the next time I see some mint 945's and just be done with it for the next several years. What are the chances right now that you stick with the 745's versus the field?

And the 790 really is money as a long iron or driving iron application. Either the 3 iron or the UDI depending on gaps is a great addition if that's the new toy you're alluding to.

It can be a challenge to make combo sets but it can be done as long as you match lofts and offset. I think in some cases you also have to ignore the club designation and go with what fills the distance gaps which means maybe you have two irons in the bag that say 6 on the bottom.

I honestly don't know what i'm going to do as far as irons. Obviously i love the 745's so we will see ;)

J have you ever hit the C Taper Lites or the PX LZs and if so how did they compare to the Modus 120 you have in the bag?

Haven't hit the C Taper lites enough to comment. The 919T's i tested have the PX LZ's in them. Great feeling iron but a little loose for me. Maybe if i got fit I could make them work but i'm really happy with the Modus 120's so don't have much reason to mess with iron shafts.

Understand completely. I'm not saying i won't ever switch but i've had some great success on course with the Modus 120's. I've been playing the 120TX but might tinker with the 120X to get a little lighter shaft as I play my irons 3/4" over standard and with a 130g shaft it can get a bit heavy on my off days.

Thanks for the input. Love the 120s and I have no reason to switch but I’m sure you understand the constant call to tinker.

The 120x just doesn’t have the same...feeling...as the 120tx. And by “feeling” I mean way more than just feel. 120tx is superb. 120x is just..meh.

Would be interested in your thoughts on the CTL. In my fitting we started with the Modus 120, spun more than the CTL.. I was counting on going back to the X100, so I wasn't actually planning on either one fitting me, but those were the top 2 recommended from the start.

760 top line would be hard to look at after the honeymoon period. TM's iron release track record has me staying at arm's length.. WAYYYYYYYY too many models released too close together.

Yeah, I don't really understand why the 750's and 730's didn't get a bit more buzz. I played both, had a combo set I threw together as well, and they are as good as anything I've hit. Pretty much bears itself out on tour, as well.
